KUALA LUMPUR: Three men have been each sentenced to 12 months in jail by the Sessions Court here after pleading guilty to mischief by throwing paint at a house, two months ago. Magistrate S. Mageswary meted out the sentence against technician Chin Zi Ping, company manager Tiew Boon Chow, 34, and air-conditioner technician Ooi Hong Leong, 38, here on Wednesday. She ordered for all of them to begin serving the sentence from the date of arrest on April 16. The men were accused of committing mischief by throwing paint outside the home of a man, on a car and a motorcycle, resulting in damages of RM10,000 at Taman Angkasa Batu 6, Brickfields at 4.50am on March 29. The charge was framed under Section 427 of the Penal Code which carries up to five year imprisonment or fine or both, upon conviction. Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Farhana Mohamad Poad sought for the court to consider the damages in the case and impose a just sentence against the accused persons. Lawyer Nurul Diyana Basher from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) asked for a short jail time for the accused persons. "All three of them are supporting their families and wives and they are very sorry," she said.

KUCHING, April 27 — Six men, including a traffic police personnel from Bukit Aman, have been remanded to assist in investigations into the fatal shooting of a 34-year-old man along Jalan Stephen Yong here yesterday. Three suspects, aged 25 to 39, will be held for seven days, while the other three, aged 29 to 45, have been remanded for four days. Senior Assistant Registrar Heng Yi Min approved the remand applications under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, with the orders taking effect from April 28, 2025. The suspects are represented by National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) lawyers Russell Lim and Zoe Chan. The case unfolded yesterday morning when two men arrived at the Batu Kawa police station around 5.30am, reporting that their friend had been shot while in the car. Police later discovered the victim, identified as Muhammad Zaki Iderus, dead from a gunshot wound to the head. According to Padawan District Police Chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi, police arrested the suspects at various locations between 4pm and 5.30pm on the same day—just hours after the case was reported. Alongside the arrests, the police also seized a pistol with 10 bullets. 'Initial investigations found that this group was involved in the shooting incident, and the motive is still under investigation. 'The case was successfully resolved in less than 12 hours, and all suspects will be remanded to facilitate investigation,' said Mohd Irwan in a statement yesterday. MUAR: A 24-year-old man has been sentenced to five months in prison after failing to pay a RM2,800 fine for peeping at a woman in a public toilet earlier this month. Muhammad Nazrullah Basir, who is unemployed, was initially fined after pleading guilty before Magistrate Fatin Dalilah Khalid. He was accused of peering under the door of a women's toilet at Tanjung Emas at 9.30am on April 14, based on a complaint by a 26-year-old woman. The offence falls under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to five years, a fine, or both. According to case facts, the woman screamed after spotting him, prompting the accused to flee in a Perodua Kancil. A toilet attendant who witnessed the incident lodged a police report. Muhammad Nazrullah was arrested on April 21. Deputy public prosecutor Nur Amieerah Alludin prosecuted, while Tee Xi Ran from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) represented the accused.

JOHOR BARU: Eight people have pleaded guilty in a Magistrate's Court here to charges of unlawful confinement, criminal intimidation, extortion, and voluntarily causing hurt to a 22-year-old man at an apartment in Masai last week. Muhammad Aqmal Hafifi Mustafa Kamal, 25; Ahmad Rushdi Jumadi, 23; Muhammad Nur Shafiq Abdullah, 25; Muhammad Haikal Zulkarnain, 19; Mohamad Amierul Hakim Shamsuri, 23; Mohamad Danish Hakim Kamaruddin, 20; Syamsul Hamiziey Saiful Razali, 19; and Nuredrianna Balqqisyh Anabella Norazman, 22; entered their pleas after the charges were read out before Magistrate Atifah Hazimah Wahab on Friday (April 25). ALSO READ: Eight individuals involved in alleged assault to be charged today According to the charge sheets, the group, along with two others still at large, wrongfully confined Muhammad Faris Syahmi Mohd Ridzwan in a flat at Block J, Jalan Bunga Daisi in Plentong, between 10pm on April 18 and 4am the following day. They were also charged with criminal intimidation by threatening him with death; extorting him of RM650 in cash and the keys to his motorcycle; as well as using physical violence and threats to force him into agreeing to pay RM3,000. The court also heard that all the accused, except Nuredrianna, caused physical injuries to the victim during the incident. ALSO READ: Eight nabbed over viral video of assault They were charged under Sections 342, 506, 384 and 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 for common intention. The charges carry up to 14 years' imprisonment for the most serious offence, in addition to fines or caning, upon conviction. The prosecution was led by Johor prosecution director Abdul Ghafar Abdul Latif, while all eight accused were represented by National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) counsel T. Nadarajan and Norfarahin Mohd Yazid. During the proceedings, Ghafar proposed that bail be set at RM10,000 for each charge. 'This means that each male accused would require a total bail of RM40,000, while Nuredrianna's bail would amount to RM30,000,' he said. In mitigation, Norfarahin told the court that three of the accused were unemployed while the others earned between RM1,200 and RM2,000 per month. 'Nuredrianna also suffers from asthma,' she added. The court set bail at RM16,000 for each man with one surety, while Nuredrianna was granted bail of RM14,000 with one surety. Next mention of the case has been fixed for June 3. Earlier, eight suspects involved in a viral video showing a man being assaulted at an apartment in Masai were arrested at 2.30am on Monday (April 21) at an apartment in Plentong Baru. Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak was previously quoted as saying that the suspects, seven men and a woman aged 19 to 26, were arrested after police detected the 2min, 7sec video that went viral. 'The video was uploaded on Facebook, and police received a report from the local male victim, who claimed the incident occurred at about 9.30pm on April 18 at an apartment in Plentong Baru, Masai,' he said.
