State's best times and new records: Vote for track and field athlete of week from IHSAA regionals

IndyStar track and field athlete of the week, presented by YMCA of Greater Indianapolis, returns with top regional performers. Congrats to last week's winner, Riverside's Noah Wellington, who won with 14,950 votes. This poll will celebrate the best of Central Indiana track and field throughout the 2025 season. The poll will be open until noon Friday. Cast your vote at the bottom of the article: Girls track and field regionals: Results, Central Indiana qualifiers for state meet Boys track and field regionals: Results, Central Indiana qualifiers for state meet Omema Anyanwu, Zionsville: The senior ran the fastest 400 meters in the state this spring (54.76 seconds) to win the regional at Ben Davis. Anyanwu also took second in the 100 (12.02) and 200 (24.63). Jai Brown, Pike: The sophomore won the 100 hurdles (14.02 seconds) at Ben Davis and helped her team to a second-place finish in the 4x100 relay (48.43). Kya Crooke, Heritage Christian: The senior Arizona recruit won the 100 (11.99), high jump (6-0) and long jump (19-3) at the North Central regional. Sadie Foley, Carmel: The senior helped the Greyhounds 4x800 relay team to a regional meet record (9:10.68) at Lafayette Jeff. Top-ranked Carmel won the meet as Foley also set the regional record by winning the 1,600 meters (4:52.15) and was part of the 4x400 relay team that won the regional. Nadia Ford, Fort Wayne Carroll: The sophomore ran the fastest 200 meters in the state this year (24.02 seconds) to win the regional. Ford also won the 100 (11.90) and was part of Carroll's 4x100 relay winner (47.18). Nife Ogunleye, Brownsburg: The freshman helped Brownsburg to its first regional title with a victory in the 100 meters (11.86 seconds) and 200 meters (24.18). Both are top-five times in the state this season. Banner Barnes, Noblesville: The sophomore won the 800 meters (1:54.92) and 1,600 meters (4:17.19) to help the Millers to a regional championship at Lafayette Jeff. Phoenix Boyer, Bishop Chatard: The junior anchored the 4x400-meter relay team to a victory over North Central with a time of 3:14.09 (second-best in state history) to win the regional at Lawrence Central. Boyer took second in the 300 hurdles (37.06 second) just behind North Central's Denhm Holt (37.04). Boyer's time is the ninth-best in state history. Nick Dearman, Heritage Christian: The senior won the regional at Lawrence Central with a long jump of 23 feet, 5 ½ inches. That jump is the third-best in the state this spring. Rylan Hainje, Franklin Central: The junior helped the Flashes to the regional championship at Lawrence Central, winning the 110 hurdles (13.57 seconds) and 300 hurdles (37.04). His 110 hurdles time is the best in the state this spring and third all-time, and his 300 time the second best this spring and seventh best all time. Coleson Kugler, Wabash: The junior won the 200 meters at the Carroll regional by matching his school record (22.87 seconds). He also broke the school record in the 100 meters (10.80) and finished second. Kaleb Rasheed, Avon: The senior won the discus (188-3) to the help the Orioles to the regional championship at Plainfield. Congrats to last week's winner, Sheridan's Damon Winston, who won with 7,464 votes. This poll will celebrate the best of Central Indiana track and field throughout the 2025 season. The poll will be open until noon Friday. Cast your vote at the bottom of the article: Elia Blackmore, Hamilton Southeastern: Blackmore set a school record in the 300-meter hurdles (43.24 seconds) as the Royals hosted the sectional meet. Blackmore also won the 100 hurdles (14.81). Kya Crooke, Heritage Christian: The senior Arizona commit won the 100 (12.35 seconds), high jump (5-6) and long jump (19-3) in the sectional at Lawrence Central. Emma Gardner, Greenwood: The senior won the shot put sectional title (42-11) at Franklin. Gardner has the sixth-best mark in the state this spring. Olivia Grimes, Greensburg: The senior won the discus sectional title at Columbus North (149-4) with the second-best performance in the state this spring and best in the sectional meets. Grimes also won the shot put sectional title (40-1). Kate Kubacki, Cathedral: The senior won the 300 hurdles (44.22) in the sectional at Lawrence Central to record the fifth-best performance in the state this season. She also qualified for the regional in the 100 hurdles (15.35) and qualified with the 4x100 (48.79) and 4x400 (3:57.16) relay teams. Anissa Lammie, Hamilton Southeastern: Lammie, a sophomore who has the best 400 mark in the state, ran a 55.51 time in the event to win the sectional. She also helped the 4x400 relay team to a sectional title (3:50.85) and a second-place finish in the 4x800 relay (9:25.58). Addison Martin, Franklin: The junior won the pole vault at Franklin with a 12-11 3/4 mark that ranks as the best in the state this spring. She also won the high jump (5-4) and helped the 4x100 relay team to a victory (49.08). Bendu Merchant, Perry Meridian: The senior won the long jump in the sectional at Franklin (17-5) and qualified for the regional in the 100 hurdles (14.68) with a second-place finish. Savana Miller, Franklin Central: The senior ran a 4:54.22 in the 1,600 to win the sectional title at Greenfield-Central. Miller also ran on the winning 4x800 relay team. Nellie Standeford, Monrovia: The junior won the sectional title in the long jump (18-5) at Avon and also qualified for the regional in the 4x100 relay (50.85) with a third-place finish. Brock DeBello, Tri-West: The senior broke his own school record in the 400 (48.49) by winning the Plainfield sectional with a top-10 mark in the state this spring. Cameron Kelley, Brebeuf Jesuit: Kelley won the long jump at Lawrence Central with a jump of 23-4 ½. That mark is the third-best in the state this spring. Baylor Miller, Northridge: The junior had a big sectional meet at Goshen, winning the 1,600 meters (4:11.56) and helping the 4x400 relay team to a sectional title (3:27.05). Jordan Randall, Warsaw: The junior posted a mark of 7-1 ¼ at the Goshen sectional to set a new school record and break the sectional mark that stood for more than 40 years. That performance ranks him No. 4 in the U.S. for outdoor competition. Will Riley, Greenwood: The senior won the 100 meters (10.73) at the Shelbyville sectional and helped the 4x100 relay team to a sectional championship (42.40). Antonio Smith, North Central: Smith ran a 21.63 to win the 200 meters in the sectional at Lawrence Central. That mark is the top time coming out of the sectional meets. The senior also helped North Central to a sectional championship in the 4x400 relay (3:17.32) and second place in the 4x100 relay (42.32). Will Snedeker, Westfield: Snedeker was the sectional champion in the 800 (1:54.11) at Fishers and anchored the 4x400 relay team to a sectional victory (3:21.50). Sebastian Sprague, Mt. Vernon: The junior won the 400 (48.70), was part of the winning 4x400 relay (3:23.08) and took second in the 100 (10.93) and long jump (21-10 ¼) at the Marauders' sectional. Sam Vaught, Roncalli: The senior had a big sectional meet at Greenfield-Central, breaking a 50-year-old school record with a sectional title in the 800 (1:56.00) and anchoring the 4x400 (3:22.19) and 4x800 (8:01.96) relay teams to sectional championships. His 800 was the ninth fastest coming out of the sectional meets. Noah Wellington, Riverside: The senior won sectional titles at Ben Davis in the 200 (22.08) and 400 (48.92).

More top marks in the state ahead of sectionals: Vote for IHSAA track and field athlete of week

Congrats to last week's winner, Mallory Weller of Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran with 40,105 votes. This poll will celebrate the best of Central Indiana track and field throughout the 2025 season. Makena Cruse, Greenwood: Cruse broke the school record in the 800 meters on Wednesday with a time of 2:19.69. Cruse shattered the 15-year-old record by 2 seconds. Jada Harper, New Albany: Harper, a freshman, won the Hoosier Hills Conference 100 hurdles with a time of 14.20 seconds. She also anchored New Albany's 4x100 relay team with a 48.61 seconds. Harper has the best time in the 300 hurdles in the state (42.57) and second-best in the 100 hurdles. Emily Norris, Carmel: Norris had a big performance at the Hamilton County championships with victories in the 200 (26.06 seconds) and long jump (19-3). She also ran the second leg of the Greyhounds' 4x100 relay, which also won (47.92 seconds). Norris has the second-best mark on the long jump in the state this spring. Amelia Smith, Guerin Catholic: The sophomore won the pole vault at the Hamilton County meet with a vault of 12-6. That is the best mark in the state this spring. Smith won the small school division of the Hoosier State Relays at the end of March with a 13-3 mark. Carly VonDielingen, Whiteland: The junior posted the best mark in the state this spring in the discus with a mark of 153-0 at the Bloomington North Twilight Invitational. She also took second in the shot put. VonDielingen was a top-10 state finisher last year in both events. Her mark of 43-3 in the shot put is fourth-best in the state this season. Jackson Gackenheimer, Warsaw: The junior won the Northern Lakes Conference championships in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters. The 1,600 victory was a close race against Mishawaka senior Liam Bauschke (4:13.52). Gackenheimer has third-best time in the 1,600 this spring. Darion Highbaugh, North Central: The senior broke his own personal record and won the Marion County meet with a 6-8 performance in the high jump. Denhm Holt, North Central: The senior DePaul commit set new Marion County and school records with a 46.76 in the 400 meters at the Marion County meet on Wednesday. Holt also anchored the 4x400 relay team to a victory with a time of 3:14.66. Holt's 400 time is the second-best in state history. Damario Moore, Lawrence North: The senior won a battle with Franklin Central's Rylan Hainje in the 300 hurdles at the Marion County meet on Wednesday. Moore's time of 36.93 seconds is the best in the state this spring and Hainje's 37.20 time is second. Both are top-10 performances all-time. Damon Winston, Sheridan: The senior won broke school record that stood for 32 years with a 6-10 performance in the high jump in his final home meet on Wednesday. The previous record was 6-8. Congrats to last week's winner, the Sheridan girls 4x400 relay team with 19,166 votes. This poll will celebrate the best of Central Indiana track and field throughout the 2025 season. The poll will be open until noon Friday. Cast your vote at the bottom of the article: Kya Crooke, Heritage Christian: The senior Arizona commit went 6-2 in the high jump in a home meet on Friday for the No. 1 jump in the USA this year. Crooke was ¼ inch off the state record set by Norwell's Angie Bradburn 40 years ago. Addison Martin, Franklin: Martin won the Mid-State Conference championship in the pole vault (11-9), then set the best mark in the state this spring in a meet at Greenfield-Central three days later (12-3). The junior also won the high jump at both meets (going 5-6 at Greenfield-Central) and ran on winning 4x100 relay team. Kira Smith, Warren Central: The sophomore had the best high jump mark in the state (5-9) until Crooke's jump with a victory at the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference meet. Smith ran a 47.08 in the 400 last week to finish second at a meet with Ben Davis and Pike. She has also been splitting her time this spring by playing shortstop and centerfield for the Warren Central softball team, leading the Warriors with a .432 batting average. Elnora Stevenson, Whiteland: Stevenson, a junior, led Whiteland to the girls Mid-State Conference championship by finishing first in the 100 (12.44 seconds), 200 (25.42) and long jump (17-7 ¼). She also ran on the Warriors' 4x100 relay team that finished second. Whiteland put up 165.5 points to easily outdistance second-place Greenwood (103.5). Mallory Weller, Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran: The state's cross-country champion, a junior, won the 1,600 meters at the Summit Athletic Conference race with a 4:46.55 to post the best mark in the state this season. Weller also won the 3,200 (10:39.12) and anchored the winning 4x800 relay team (9:45.66). Rylan Hainje, Franklin Central: Hainje won the 110-meter high hurdles in 13.61 seconds at the Hoosier Crossroads Conference meet at Avon. That is the No. 5 mark on the state's all-time list. Mt. Vernon 4x800 relay team: The Mt. Vernon 4x800 relay team of Caden Cassada, Xaiden Jenson, Cooper Hunziker and Ahmed Saleh set the best mark in the state this spring by winning the Cougar Chase at Greenfield-Central with a time of 7:51.31. Kendell Ohaya, Plainfield: The senior won the 200 (22.68) and helped the 4x100 relay team (42.60) and 4x400 relay team (3:26.36) to victories at the Mid-State Conference meet. The Quakers won the meet with 138 points. Christian Ortiz, Hamilton Southeastern: The senior won the 200 meters at the Hoosier Crossroads Conference meet with a time of 21.18 seconds for the best mark in the state this spring. Colten Smith, Monrovia: The junior helped Monrovia win the Indiana Crossroads Conference with a victory in the 800 meters (2:04.35) and pole vault (12-0), along with a 4x100 relay victory (43.16). Scroll to the bottom of the article to vote or click here. Voting is open until noon Friday. Congratulations to Ryan Castetter of University for winning player of the week for Week 4. The Pepperdine commit went 7-for-15 (.467) with five runs scored, four RBIs, three doubles, one triple and one stolen base. Here are the top performers from the past week. Noah Dininger, Bethesda Christian Dininger pitched 13 innings over two appearances, striking out 26 while allowing just four hits and two earned runs. At the plate, the senior went 4-for-10 (.400) with one home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. Beckett Doane, Noblesville The Mississippi State commit was dominant in his start against Westfield. The lefty threw a complete game, allowing just two hits and one walk with 10 strikeouts. Ty Frakes, Pendleton Heights The senior went 7-for-10 (.700) with three runs scored, two RBIs, one double and two stolen bases. Ethan Frye, Tri-West The senior went 5-for-15 (.333) with seven RBIs, four runs scored, one double, one home run and four stolen bases. Aiden Grabowski, Westfield The junior entered in relief and helped the Shamrocks stay in the game, throwing three scoreless innings, allowing no hits and one walk, striking out four. Ty Hamilton, Sullivan The junior went 5-for-10 (.500) with two doubles, one home run, three RBIs and seven runs scored. On the mound, Hamilton threw a 15-strikeout one-hitter against Bloomfield.
