LeBron James Saddened By Attack At The Liverpool Parade

Liverpool held a celebratory parade after winning the Premier League this season, but a joyous occasion would turn tragic. Several fans were injured when a car plowed into a crowd during the parade. Police and first responders say 27 people were hospitalized as a result of the attack, while several others were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Liverpool are based in England, but the club has fans all over the world. One of the team's biggest supporters - and an investor in the club - reacted to the tragedy on social media. "OMG!!!! WTH. My deepest thoughts and prayers goes out to everyone affected that attended LFC's Premiere League trophy parade today! Such a senseless act!," said NBA star LeBron James. James added the #YNWA hashtag to his message, short for "You'll Never Walk Alone." The song is played before every Liverpool home game at Anfield, and has become synonymous with the team throughout its history. James has been a part-owner of Liverpool Football Club since 2011, and has attended games at Anfield. The soccer world at large has reacted to the tragedy in Liverpool on Monday, with the Premier League issuing a statement stating that it is "shocked by the appalling events" and that "heartfelt thoughts go out to all those injured and affected." The league also noted that it has been in contact with the club and has offered support. "Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this serious incident in our city," said Everton, Liverpool's fierce rival. Another rival team, Manchester United, said that its thoughts are with Liverpool after an "awful incident." Liverpool won the Premier League this season, taking home the trophy for the second time under the current classification. They've been champions of the first division of English soccer 20 times, with the Premier League structure starting in 1992. It's the second time Liverpool has won the title since 2020, when they ended a 30-year drought between titles. The team was unable to celebrate with home fans after winning that year due to the pandemic, and their celebration this season has been marred by a senseless act of violence. John Swinney describes 'dreadful scenes' after car drives through crowd in Liverpool

Swinney has reacted by saying his thoughts are with the families of the injured this evening. First Minister John Swinney has described the scenes in Liverpool as "dreadful" after a car ploughed into a crowd of people during the trophy parade this evening. Witnesses described seeing a people carrier plough into crowds of people who had been celebrating the Liverpool FC's Premier League success in the city at around 6pm on Monday. ‌ Merseyside Police confirmed that a 53-year-old white, British man from the Liverpool area had been arrested following the incident. ‌ In a statement on X/Twitter, Swinney reacted by saying his thoughts were with the families of the injured this evening. He wrote: "Dreadful scenes in Liverpool tonight. What should have been a day of joy, turned to tragedy. All our thoughts are with the injured and their families. #YNWA" Meanwhile leader of the Scottish Labour Party Anas Sarwar also released a statement following the horror incident. In a post on X, he wrote: "Deeply disturbing and horrifying scenes in Liverpool today. My thoughts are with all those injured or affected. It should have been a day of celebration in a brilliant city, not for such despicable violence." The club said they were in contact with the force and would continue to offer their full support to the emergency services and local authorities. Earlier today we revealed that a press conference would take place tonight in which medics will release an update on the number of casualties as a result of the incident. ‌ Meanwhile NHS University Hospitals Liverpool Group urged members of the public to refrain from calling to ask about loved ones as next of kin would be contacted. Footage of the incident which was circulating online on Monday appeared to show the vehicle speed up as it veered into pedestrians on both sides of the street. Officers surrounded the car very soon after, as witnesses attempted to stop the driver, who was eventually detained by police. Emergency services were quickly at the scene and several casualties were seen being taken away by ambulances. ‌ A large police cordon was put in place on Water Street and emergency vehicles could be seen lining the road. Images from the scene show a mass of emergency service vehicles around Water Street and Dale Street. A North West Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "NWAS is supporting an incident in Liverpool city centre, following reports of a road traffic collision. "We are currently assessing the situation and working with other members of the emergency services. Our priority is to ensure people receive the medical help they need as quickly as possible. Updates will be published on this page and Mersey Police as we know more." ‌ In a statement posted on social media Liverpool FC said they were in 'direct contact' with Merseyside Police. They added: "Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident. We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident.' Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! She said: 'The footage from tonight's parade is shocking and appalling. My thoughts are with all those affected. A 53-year-old white British male from the Liverpool area has now been arrested. ‌ "My thanks go to Merseyside Police and our emergency service partners who have responded so swiftly. Updates will be provided as soon as possible. In the meantime, I'd urge people to please not speculate any further.' A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: 'We would ask people not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding tonight's incident on Water Street in Liverpool city centre. We can confirm the man arrested is a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area. ' Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision. Klopp congratulates Liverpool on Premier League triumph

The squad that won a record-equalling 20th league title on Sunday, in Arne Slot's first season as manager, was almost entirely assembled by the German before he left last year. After his final game in May 2024, Klopp sang Slot's name on the pitch, something that was reciprocated by the Dutchman at Anfield. "Super grateful for the past, super, super happy about the present, extremely positive about the future!" Klopp wrote on Instagram on Monday, alongside a picture of the title celebrations at Anfield. "Congratulations - YNWA (You'll Never Walk Alone)." He signed off "Thank you Luv", a reference to the phrase he chose to have printed on the front of his hoodie at his farewell to recognise the saying that made him feel at home in Liverpool. Slot has frequently mentioned his gratitude for the quality of the squad he inherited from the German and thanked his predecessor after Sunday's 5-1 victory over Tottenham in an on-pitch interview before he broke into song. Former Dortmund boss Klopp won the Champions League and Premier League among other silverware at Anfield. He is now Red Bull's head of global soccer. Slot reiterated in his post-match press conference that his predecessor had left a strong legacy. "I think that is something not one manager ever did before. So that is what definitely helped me," he said. "But apart from that, he helped me even more by the team he left behind and the culture he left behind in that team. "The quality the players have was, I think, obvious for everyone. But the culture of hard work, the culture not only from the players, but also from the staff members, has been incredible." © 2025 AFP

Liverpool fans divided after spotting what Trent Alexander-Arnold did immediately after winning Premier League title

Liverpool fans have had their say after spotting what Trent Alexander-Arnold did following their Premier League triumph. Liverpool beat Tottenham 5-1 on Sunday to be crowned Premier League champions. It's the club's 20th league title in their storied history. After the final whistle, the Liverpool squad and coaching staff gathered on the pitch to celebrate their latest league title. After a rendition of Dua Lipa's 'One Kiss', fans in the Kop end sang 'You'll Never Walk Alone' in front of the entire team. Alexander-Arnold was among the players lined up as fans on social media have reacted after seeing what they did. Liverpool supporters claimed he didn't sing 'YNWA' as they questioned his proposed free transfer to Real Madrid this summer. One X user wrote: "He didn't even sing, he's definitely leaving." A second said: "Trent Alexander-Arnold cannot be witnessing his and the adoration those fans have for him, without second thoughts." A third added: "What must be going through Trent Alexander-Arnold's head right now." A fourth commented: "He's leaving but you can tell he was hiding emotions there and perhaps is thinking if it's the right move. At Madrid he'll just be another guy. At Liverpool you make history." Another claimed: "He's smiling that he won, but he's going to Real." Alexander-Arnold has been at Liverpool for his entire footballing career, having graduated from the club's youth academy. But he appears set to end his association with his boyhood club when his contract expires at the end of the season. The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Real, who have been long-term admirers. If Alexander-Arnold leaves Anfield this summer, then he'll walk away with two Premier League titles and the Champions League, among other trophies.
