Footprints in snow lead police to church burglar
MEMPHIS, Tenn. –A church burglar interrupted by police early Wednesday morning was able to get away but left his footprints in the snow. Police responded to an alarm call at Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church on East McLemore in South Memphis just hours after snow blanketed the area. Officers said when they arrived on the scene, they saw a board had been removed from a side of the church and various items, including speakers, had been moved outside. Police also spotted a set of footprints and saw a man walk out of the church's back door. They said a lock on the rear door had been cut off. Officers tried to stop the man, but he jumped over a back fence and got into a waiting car on Simpson Avenue. A church deacon said the burglar attempted to take two Yahama speakers worth $1,500, two $500 monitor speakers, some trash bags, a box of gloves, and salt packets. During a search of the neighborhood, officers located the getaway car at an apartment complex in the 500 block of Simpson. The Chevy Malibu was empty but police found a blue cell phone and a vehicle programmer inside the vehicle. MPD is looking for at least two men who were seen inside Malibu.
