Puducherry government secures ₹4,700-crore loan for infra work in UT
The Puducherry government has secured a loan of ₹4,700 crore under the Integrated Infrastructure Development Projects-ADB Loan Assistance (EAP) for the four regions of the Union Territory (UT), Minister for Public Works K. Lakshminarayanan has said.
He made the announcement while addressing the public after unfurling the national flag during the Independence Day celebrations in the Yanam region of the UT on Friday (August 15, 2025). The Minister termed securing the loan a big achievement of the government.
Of the total ₹4,700 crore, the Minister said ₹210 crore has been allotted for various infrastructure projects in the Yanam region. The projects included the augmentation of the water supply scheme, strengthening of the sewerage network, improvement of urban roads, minor drains, and road connectivity to tourist centres in Yanam, he said.
The Minister informed that a multi-disciplinary team from the Central Water Commission had visited Yanam to examine the proposal for the construction of a flood protection wall. The team also examined the feasibility of shore protection work, covering a distance of 1.5 km along the Gowthami Godavari river bank, in Island No 3., he said.
'The Central Water Commission will soon sanction the project proposals submitted by the Yanam PWD in this regard. Similarly, the proposal for the restoration of damaged shore protections from the upstream side of Balayogi Bridge up to the Aratikayalanka border will be sanctioned by the Commission,' the Minister said.
