Aaron Judge Offers Candid Confession Ahead of First Father's Day
Aaron Judge Offers Candid Confession Ahead of First Father's Day originally appeared on Athlon Sports. As important as a primetime showdown with the rival Boston Red Sox is, one can't fault New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge for having a little something extra on his mind Sunday night. Advertisement This weekend marks Judge's first Father's Day since he and his wife, Samantha, welcomed their daughter during the offseason. Nora Rose Judge was born on Jan. 27, two months before Judge and the Yankees began their latest pennant chase. On the field, it's been business as usual for Judge, who is on pace for his third AL MVP in four years. Judge has an outside chance at becoming the first hitter since Red Sox legend Ted Williams to hit over .400, and he's already tallied a league-high 5.6 bWAR for the first-place Yankees. 'Hopefully, she's old enough to see me play this game,' Judge told Yankees reporter Bryan Hoch. 'I might be a little older by the time she really starts recognizing what's going on. 'I just want to teach her the importance of hard work, the importance of showing up every day for something, and the importance of being a team player,' Judge continued. 'It's all about the little things.' Advertisement When that time comes, Nora will see both her father and one of the greatest modern sluggers. Judge enters Tuesday leading the league in average (.394) and OPS (1.269). His 25 home runs trail only Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh's 26. Thankfully for Judge, he's mastered long home runs and changing diapers. 'I love doing it all,' Judge said. 'Especially if it helps her or helps my wife.' Aaron Judge and Samantha Judge in 2022Jessica Alcheh-Imagn Images Judge has excelled as the Yankees' captain the last three seasons. His newest role, though, is an entirely different challenge—not that he's focusing on the harder parts of it. 'She brings me so much joy, so much excitement, so much wonder,' Judge said. Advertisement 'Especially on the good days or bad days here at work, when I come home to her, everything changes,' Judge continued. Yankees' Ben Rice could get some starts at catcher when Giancarlo Stanton returns
Access the Yankees beat like never before Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Greg Joyce about the inside buzz on the Yankees. Try it free KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Ben Rice caught the final two innings of Tuesday's blowout win over the Royals, continuing his trend of getting behind the plate only once a game is out of hand. But soon enough, Rice could begin getting occasional starts at catcher. Aaron Boone opened the door for that to happen Wednesday while discussing how the Yankees will get everyone enough at-bats once Giancarlo Stanton returns from the injured list, which could be as soon as this weekend at Fenway Park. Rice has caught just 7 ²/₃ innings in his big league career, with the Yankees instead needing him at first base last season and DH this year because of injuries, though his bat has continued to force his way into the lineup. But he came up through the minor leagues as a catcher and has been doing defensive work there before almost every game with catching director Tanner Swanson to keep him active if needed. Austin Wells will still get most starts, but Rice could spell him on occasion like J.C. Escarra (16 starts) has done so far, which then creates an issue of how to keep Escarra involved. Boone described it as a 'challenge,' but 'doable, too.' 'I'll say with Benny, Benny's not just a really good hitter that, 'Oh by the way, he can catch too,' ' said Boone, who called Rice's two innings Tuesday 'noticeably excellent.' 'This is a skilled catcher. He has demonstrated in his minor league career, this is a really good receiver. He's got the skill set to do it. Just the role hasn't been there yet here for him to do it. But I was really pleased with what I saw from him [Tuesday] night, albeit in just a couple innings.' Ben Rice hits an RBI single during the second inning of the Yankees-Royals game on June 11, 2025. AP Stanton, meanwhile, went 1-for-4 Wednesday in his second straight rehab game. He is unlikely to play Thursday, when the club will make a decision on what comes next. He will be the main DH when he returns, though Rice could rotate between DH, first base and catcher. And while Rice has been trying to stay sharp with his defensive work daily, there is no way to simulate catching nine innings. 'At some point, we'll probably get him back there in a game, but I think the biggest challenge will be actually going out there and catching six, seven, eight, nine innings,' Boone said. Luke Weaver threw a bullpen session Wednesday at Kauffman Stadium, his second since straining his hamstring on June 1. Luke Weaver, closing out a Yankees' win over the Angels on May 27, 2025, said he had a 'great' bullpen session on June 11 as he works his way back from a hamstring strain. Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images He said he felt 'great' and is not experiencing any discomfort, which has him trending toward beating the reported four-to-six week timeline. 'It won't be something we rush or force, but we're going to listen to his body and how he's responding,' Boone said. 'I would say yes, it seems to be better than maybe the original thought.' Jazz Chisholm Jr. was back in the lineup Wednesday after leaving Tuesday's game early with neck tightness after colliding with Maikel Garcia's knee on a steal of third base. Chisholm took issue with Garcia's tag, but Boone downplayed it on Wednesday. 'Look, I understand you kind of get smoked there and jarred and it's kind of a hard play or whatever,' Boone said. 'That's just in the moment competitiveness bubbling over a little bit.' Chisholm left Wednesday's game in the bottom of the inning and was replaced by Oswald Peraza. The Yankees reported later that he left with left groin tightness. An MRI exam revealed that Jake Cousins is dealing with a UCL injury, but the reliever is gathering multiple opinions before determining his next step.

Yankees Make Jazz Chisholm Announcement After Neck Injury
Yankees Make Jazz Chisholm Announcement After Neck Injury originally appeared on Athlon Sports. If Wednesday's New York Yankees-Kansas City Royals showdown features any fireworks, Jazz Chisholm Jr. has no plans on watching from the bench. Advertisement Chisholm is starting at third and hitting fifth for the Yankees, one night after leaving early with a neck injury. The Yankees' star slugger hurt himself on an attempted steal of third base following a rough tag from Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia. According to ESPN, TV cameras caught Chisholm expressing his frustration to Yankees third base coach Luis Rojas. "I'm going to tell you one more time," Chisholm reportedly said, "if he tags me like that one more time, I'm going to smack the [expletive] out of him." To his credit, Garcia made it clear he's "waiting" for Chisholm's response. "It's just talk," Garcia told reporters. Advertisement Chisholm's feud with Garcia dates back to last October, when he called his Royals counterpart a "sore loser" and accused him of trying to injure Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe. New York Yankees third baseman Jazz Chisholm Penner-Imagn Images "I just feel like every time we have a problem, it's always been him," Chisholm said Tuesday. He also suffered a cut on his right thumb, though neither his hand nor his neck were enough to keep him out of Wednesday's lineup. Chisholm has been on fire since returning from the IL last week, going 9-for-25 with two home runs, seven RBI, and four stolen bases in that span. He's raised his average to .215 and his OPS to .770, quickly erasing any doubts about how he'd fare upon returning to third base. Advertisement Chisholm has nine homers, 24 RBI, and 1.6 bWAR through 152 plate appearances for the first-place Yankees. Jazz Chisholm Jr. Issues Warning After Incident During Yankees-Royals
Jazz Chisholm Jr. Issues Warning After Incident During Yankees-Royals originally appeared on Athlon Sports. A physical play during Tuesday night's New York Yankees-Kansas City Royals game has reignited a feud between Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Maikel Garcia. Advertisement The play occurred on Chisholm's steal of third base with the Yankees leading 5-1 in the top of the sixth inning. Garcia, the Royals third baseman, attempted to receive a throw from catcher Freddy Fermin and tag Chisholm - who slid head first into the bag - in one fluid motion. Chisholm's helmet fell off as the tag was applied, and the ball caromed off the heel of Garcia's glove. In a slow motion replay of the play, YES Network cameras caught Chisholm mouthing a harsh warning. "Imma tell you one more time, if he tags me like that one more time, Imma smack the [expletive] out of him..." he appeared to say. Advertisement Chisholm was later removed from the game due to neck tightness and a cut on his right thumb, but made it clear after the game how he felt about Garcia's tag. New York Yankees second baseman DJ LeMahieu (26) celebrates with third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. (13) after scoringPeter Aiken-Imagn Images 'I just feel like every time we have a problem, it's always been him,' Chisholm told reporters in the locker room. 'That's the only reason I was so frustrated. And then to even see that he didn't even have the ball for the way that he tagged me, it was just, I didn't like it.' Garcia, who was made aware of Chisholm's warning to "smack" him, had his own response to after the game. "I'm waiting for it,' said Garcia. 'It's just talk.' Advertisement The feud between Chisholm Jr. and Garcia likely began after Game 2 of last year's ALDS, when Chisholm made the comment that the Royals "just got lucky" after their 4-2 win. It boiled over in Game 4, when Garcia slid hard into shortstop Anthony Volpe, who tagged Garcia out. Chisholm came over from third base in Volpe's defense, talking smack to Garcia about the slide and causing the benches to clear. Despite leaving Tuesday night's game, Chisholm is expected to be in the lineup Wednesday night when the Yankees face left-hander Kris Bubic and the Royals.
