Yankees fans rip into Anthony Volpe after confident take following Blue Jays loss

The post Yankees fans rip into Anthony Volpe after confident take following Blue Jays loss appeared first on ClutchPoints. The New York Yankees are quickly falling off the pace in the race for AL East supremacy. Just three games after the All-Star break (and a 2-1 series win over the Atlanta Braves), the Yankees will be facing the Toronto Blue Jays, the current division leader, in a three-game bloodbath that could have repercussions come the end of the season. However, the Yankees couldn't get anything going in the first game of the series. Kevin Gausman quieted the Yankees' bats in a 4-1 win for the Blue Jays in which New York could only muster all of five hits and eight total baserunners. For a team that prides itself on its ability to score runs (they lead the American League in total runs scored, third overall in MLB behind just the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs), this is unacceptable. With this latest defeat, the Yankees are now four games back from the Blue Jays for the division lead. But this doesn't seem to faze Anthony Volpe at all even after he played such a huge role in New York's series-opening defeat. 'It's still the middle of July. We've got so many games ahead of us. We don't stack ourselves up against one team or another. I feel like we stack ourselves up against ourselves. So when we play our best, I think everything will take care of itself, regardless of how many games are left,' Volpe said, per Bryan Hoch of Yankees fans chastise Anthony Volpe for his 'loser' mindset While maintaining composure in the middle of adversity is necessary, especially when there are 62 games left in the regular season, Yankees fans did not take too kindly to this comment from Volpe. Yankees fans are demanding a greater sense of urgency from Volpe and the entire team after losing control of the AL East. 'Get this guy off my team loser mentality doesn't even ever sound confident either just following a script that his lovers Boone and Cashman gave him,' X user @Extremely00p wrote. 'Wouldn't expect that loser mentality from anyone else,' @Laf4MVP_ added. 'Shut up loser boy, you got a long leash bc there's no backup Option atm, and you grew up idolizing Derek Jeter, I'll party the day you are finally off my team !!' @CCGALTON furthered. 'But he's not playing his best and hasn't played his best all season. They have 62 games left that is not so many games left. He needs to get a clue,' @Stephen28157618 pointed out. Volpe, on the season, is slashing .214/.286/.394, with 12 home runs and 53 runs batted in. Aaron Boone says he must improve as Yankees fans call for his job

Aaron Boone says he must improve as Yankees fans call for his job originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Yankees' midsummer collapse isn't creeping anymore. It's stomping. Since June 1, they're 13–15, and the AL East lead that once felt comfortable has nearly vanished. Tuesday's 12–5 loss to the Blue Jays was just the latest unraveling, and fans online were losing their minds. Advertisement In the wake of it all, with fans openly calling for his head, Yankees manager Aaron Boone admitted he needed to be better. 'Some of those guys have been leaned on heavily,' Boone told reporters. 'It's on me. I've got to do a better job of getting those guys in positions where they can be successful.' Translation: the bullpen's wearing thin, and Boone knows it. New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone.© Eric Hartline-Imagn Images Mark Leiter Jr. gave up two runs on Tuesday. Luke Weaver gave up three, two earned. Geoff Hartlieb, only here because Fernando Cruz hit the IL with a high-grade lat strain, gave up three more. That's eight earned runs from the pen in five innings, in a division game the Yankees needed to win. Advertisement The bullpen has now allowed 15 earned runs in 13 innings over the last four games, and the fatigue is showing. Devin Williams hasn't been used much in recent weeks. Jonathan Loaisiga, Tim Hill and Ian Hamilton have all had moments, but halfway through the season, the bullpen is showing its cracks. And fans are taking notice. The boos are louder. The comments are nastier. The vibe? Somewhere between numb and nuclear. It's not just about losing games—it's the way they're losing them: late, sloppy, and avoidable. Boone's admission won't quiet the noise. But at least he acknowledged the obvious. The Yankees are burning through relievers and bleeding momentum. Advertisement Make no mistake, Boone is not going anywhere. He has a new contract extension. He has the support of GM Brian Cashman and majority owner Hal Steinbrenner. Fans calling for his head are howling into the dark. Calls Mount for Anthony Volpe Move After Yankees' Loss to Blue Jays

Calls Mount for Anthony Volpe Move After Yankees' Loss to Blue Jays originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Yankees are now just one game ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East, and shortstop Anthony Volpe is a big reason why. The 24-year-old is in a 6-for-53 slump and is 1-for-9 in the last two games against Toronto. Advertisement The Yankees lost 5-4 to the Blue Jays in the series opener on Monday before dropping Tuesday's rematch 12-5. Meanwhile, Toronto has won three straight games and is 7-3 in its last 10. The club is also tied with the Tampa Bay Rays as the latter team plays the Athletics on Tuesday night. New York fans on social media have had enough of Volpe. Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe (11). Brad Penner-Imagn Images "Trade or send down," one person said. "Enough is enough." "Feel like I'm taking crazy pills every time I see his stats and how awful they are, yet people still come in droves to try and tell me he's a winning baseball player," another said. "Yeah, I'm officially out on him," another said. "If he's not going to hit u can't be a negative defender and baserunner. Unfortunately, he's going to be run out until his team control is over." Advertisement "Volpe is one of the most overrated prospects the Yankees have hyped up," another said. "I remember they were calling him the next Derek Jeter. What a joke." "How much longer do they let him deteriorate before making a change?" another asked. Volpe is slashing .225/.306/.406 with nine homers and 44 RBI in 84 games this season. The 2023 Gold Glove Award winner has 11 errors and is on pace to pass his career-high of 17. Right-handed pitcher Will Warren (5-4, 4.37 ERA) will start for the Yankees on Wednesday against Blue Jays right-hander Jose Berrios (4-3, 3.26 ERA). Giancarlo Stanton returns and reacts to Yankees fan ovation and lineup depth

Giancarlo Stanton returns and reacts to Yankees fan ovation and lineup depth originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Giancarlo Stanton's 2025 season finally started Monday night in the Bronx — and Yankees fans let him know they hadn't forgotten. Advertisement The slugger received a standing ovation before his first at-bat, his first regular-season appearance since his standout playoff performance last October. Stanton called the moment 'awesome' and 'amazing,' thanking fans after the Yankees' 1-0 loss in 11 innings to the Angels. 'It's been a long time coming for the year,' Stanton said. 'So I appreciate them. And yeah, good thing I was able to do all right tonight.' New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton played his first game of the season on June 16, 2025, at Yankee Stadium.© Brad Penner-Imagn Images He finished 2-for-4 with a double in his season debut. The timing couldn't be better for a Yankees offense that has scored just five runs in its last five games. Stanton was the Yankees' most productive hitter during the 2024 postseason, batting .318 with four home runs and 11 RBIs across eight games. Monday was the first time fans at Yankee Stadium got to welcome him back since that October run. Advertisement But he returns to a different team. Stanton's return adds pressure to an already tight lineup puzzle. Manager Aaron Boone has said Ben Rice will see time at first base, catcher, and DH. Paul Goldschmidt is in that rotation, too. He and Jasson Dominguez were out of the lineup Monday night. But Stanton made it clear he's focused on team wins, not playing time politics. 'Whatever is best for us to win. That's the most important,' Stanton said. 'And the guys that are going to be starting, they're going to come in huge pitching spots. So when you have that opportunity, it's usually a chance to win the game anyway.' Advertisement Since joining the Yankees in 2018, Stanton has hit .248 with 124 home runs and 329 RBIs in 477 games. But staying on the field has been the biggest hurdle. He's been on the injured list 11 times in pinstripes, including extended absences for hamstring, Achilles, quad, calf, and biceps injuries. He's back, and the Yankees need his bat more than ever.
