Immigration FC stuns Terengganu 2-1 in FA Cup round of 16
IMMIGRATION FC pulled off a stunning 2-1 upset against Terengganu FC in the FA Cup round of 16 first leg at Batu Kawan State Stadium. Brazilian striker Joao Pedro emerged as the match-winner with a dramatic 91st-minute header to secure a vital advantage for Immigration FC. The return leg will take place in Kuala Terengganu on September 13. Terengganu had two first-half goals by Yann Mabella disallowed following VAR reviews. Mabella finally broke the deadlock in the 50th minute after a slick passing move involving Engku Muhammad Nur Shakir and Azam Azmi. KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- Immigration FC (IFC) created a surprise in the FA Cup competition after defeating Terengganu FC (TFC) 2-1 in a dramatic last-minute action in the first leg of the round of 16 at Batu Kawan State Stadium, Penang, this evening. Match hero, Brazilian import striker, Joao Pedro scored the winning goal in the 91st minute, thus providing a valuable goal for IFC to take to the return match in Kuala Terengganu on Sept 13. Earlier, the first half saw two goals by Yann Mabella for TFC in the 14th and 36th minutes disallowed after Video Assistant Referee (VAR) reviews. bootstrap slideshow The first goal was disallowed following a foul on IFC captain Mohd Rizal Ghazali by Engku Muhammad Nur Shakir while the second goal was disallowed for offside. However, Mabella finally put TFC ahead in the 50th minute after completing an interesting combination pass from Engku and Azam Azmi. However, the joy did not last long when Rafael Iserhard Holstein equalised four minutes later thanks to a swift move by Burundian substitute Elvis Kamsoba. IFC almost took the lead in the 73rd minute through Mohammad Fayadh but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review confirmed it was a handball. When the match looked to be heading for a draw, Pedro headed in the second goal late in the game, igniting the home team's hopes of continuing to create sensations in this competition.
