Owen on fire at Merdeka Stadium
KUALA LUMPUR: Germany's fastest man Ansah Owen was in hot form at Merdeka Stadium today.
He clocked 10.31s to win the men's 100m semi-final one in the Cahya Mata Super Series international athletics meet. Owen, 24, has a personal best of 9.99s.
German Yannick Wolf won the semi-final two in 10.40s while Malaysia's Khairul Hafiz Jantan won the semi-final three in 10.55s.
Owen also anchored the German 4x100m quartet (including Kevin Kranz, Yannick Wolf and Lucas Ansah-Peprah) to the gold, winning with a season best of 38.26s. The German B quartet of Julian Wagner, Alexandar Askovic, Chdiera Onuoha and Heiko timed 38.84s to finish second.
Malaysia's Khairul, Jonathan Nyepa, Pengiran Aidil Auf Hajam and Zulfiqar Ismail finished third in 40.55s.
The lanky Owen, who is training for three weeks in Malaysia for the World Relay Championships in Guangzhou,
China on May 11-12, said: "I'm satisfied with the time of 10.31s. I believe there was a headwind."
Asked about his bid to qualify for the 100m at the World Championships in Tokyo in September (qualifying time is 10s), Owen said: "I will focus on the World Relays in China before I discuss with my coaches to decide which competition to compete in.
"I'm happy with the time we clocked (38.26s) today as it was our first relay run this year," said Owen who ran in the 200m in the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, United States.
The German women's quartet of Sophia Junk, Nele Jaworski, Talea Prepens and Sina Kammerschmitt won the 4x100m in 43.43s.
Malaysia's Azreen Nabila Alias, Zaidatul Husniah Zulkifli, Nur Afrina Batrisyia Rizal and Nur Aishah Rofina Aling clocked 45.50s to finish second. The Selangor team finished third (58.61s).
Zaidatul, who holds the national women's 100m record of 11.49s, clocked the fastest time of 11.76s in the semi-finals.
