' Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery ' won the Best Hindi Film award at the 71st National Film Awards for the Year 2023. The film is a quirky satire set in the fictional small town of Moba. Last Updated: Kathal director Yashowardhan Mishra and producer Guneet Monga are over the moon after their 2023 movie was declared the best Hindi film at the 71st National Awards. Kathal director Yashowardhan Mishra is elated that his 2023 movie has won the Best Hindi Film National Award. Soon after the announcement was made on Friday evening, Mishra spoke to News18 Showsha exclusively and revealed that it was Guneet Monga, the producer of the film, who told him about the big win. 'I got a call from my producers – Gurmeet Monga – they informed me about it. They were equally baffled as much as I am. I can't believe it right now. I think it is an incredible honour to be recognised at the national level, at the national award. It is like a dream for my debut film to win it. I am pinching myself," the director told us. Further expressing his gratitude, Mishra added, 'One does not anticipate these kinds of things; one just does. We just do our best and we hope to tell a story with a lot of genuine affection and hope that it connects with an audience. That is something that thankfully we received with Kathal. People loved it and I was not expecting an award. We just made a film that everybody could watch and enjoy and perhaps spark a conversation with. This award just feels like a cherry on top and it just reaffirms our belief in what we do in the kind of stories that we choose to tell."
