Majuli conducts pre-Lok Adalat for swift dispute resolution

1 2 Dibrugarh: Majuli District Legal Services Authority has launched a comprehensive pre-Lok Adalat initiative from Aug 16 to Sept 12, culminating in the National Lok Adalat on Sept 13. This effort, aligned with directives from the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), aims to deliver accessible and timely justice through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. The Lok Adalat will take up a wide range of compoundable cases, including civil disputes, matrimonial matters, cheque bounce cases, and issues under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. It will also address pre-litigation disputes such as bank loan defaults, electricity bill arrears, and BSNL telephone dues — offering people a chance to resolve matters before formal legal proceedings begin. Notices have already been issued by the chief judicial magistrate and the munsif judicial magistrate of Majuli to plaintiffs and defendants in pending cases, encouraging them to participate in the pre-Lok Adalat for amicable settlements. Cases resolved during this phase will be formally concluded on Sept 13, subject to mutual consent. Authorities have also reached out to consumers involved in pre-litigation disputes, urging them to visit their respective banks, BSNL, or APDCL offices within the designated period to negotiate settlements. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 15 Most Gorgeous Women, Ranked BigGlobalTravel Undo Even those who haven't received formal notices are encouraged to contact the Majuli District Legal Services Authority or call the helpline to initiate resolution. Sandeep Kaushik, secretary of the authority, said, "Resolving disputes through Lok Adalat ensures final and binding outcomes, eliminating prolonged legal battles. UP: Five convicted of killing SHO in 2018 Siyana mob violence

Nearly seven years after Station House Officer (SHO) Subodh Kumar Singh was killed in a mob violence over cow slaughter protests in Bulandshahr's Siyana area of Uttar Pradesh, a local court on Monday convicted five persons of murder. Thirty-three others were convicted of attempt to murder and rioting. The sentencing will take place on August 1. According to prosecution lawyer Yashpal Singh, police had filed chargesheet against 44 people. 'Five of them died during the trial and one was a juvenile whose case is pending in a juvenile court. Among others, 38 have been pronounced guilty under several sections and taken into judicial custody,' he said. The five who have been convicted of murder are Prashant Nat, David, Rahul, Johnny, and Lokendra aka Lokendra Mama – all residents of Chingravathi village, where the violence took place. On December 3, 2018, villagers from Mahav and surrounding areas claimed to have found a cow carcass in fields. Protesting against cow slaughter, around 50-60 villagers put the carcass on a tractor-trolley and blocked the highway outside the Chingravati police outpost. As SHO Subodh Kumar Singh reached the spot, the mob began to pelt stones and set the local police outpost on fire. Eyewitnesses and police officials said that as the policemen tried to flee, they were attacked with stones and firearms. Subodh Singh sustained a gunshot wound and was left behind as the officers fled for their lives. 'We tried to carry Subodh sir's body, but the situation was too dangerous,' Ram Ashray, the driver of the police vehicle, had told The Indian Express. SHO Singh died of gunshot injuries. A local youth, Sumit Kumar (20), also died in the violence. Following the incident, the Bulandshahr police registered an FIR based on the complaint of officer Subhash Chandra, who was present during the incident, and named 27 individuals and 50-60 unidentified individuals. Following the investigation, charges were framed against 44 individuals. The police had also registered a separate cow slaughter case against 10 individuals.
