Delhi woman claims Nainital cop slapped her and friend, shares video. Police reacts
A Delhi-based woman on a road trip to Uttarakhand's Nainital alleged she and her friend were slapped and abused by a policeman during a routine stop. She shared a video documenting parts of her conversation with the cop on social media that has since gone viral. The police reacted to her video and issued a statement later. In the video, Yati Sharma claimed she faced misconduct from the officer while riding through Nainital's Ramgarh area. She alleged that she and her friend were stopped at a checkpoint without a valid reason, verbally abused, and slapped by the officer despite showing all required documents. advertisementThe viral video of the incident shows the policeman - identified as Gulab Singh Kamboj - aggressively confronting her. Yati can be heard asking why she was stopped while two men on another bike, riding in similar gear, were allowed to pass. "Just now, two men went wearing the same kind of helmet. Why weren't they stopped?" she asked. She also accused the officer of throwing her phone when she attempted to record the incident further. "My friend who was with me was hurt. Half of her face is swollen. I am not gonna show it here but she was so badly shaken up by this entire incident. He literally slapped us," Yati said in the caption of her post. Refuting the accusations, Yati posted another video that included time-stamped footage showing both riders wearing helmets and displaying the vehicle's valid documents. She called out the police's version as "lies" and said it was a cover-up to dodge accountability. Gulab Kamboj," it said. The statement added, "The vehicle did not have registration documents and the pillion rider was not wearing a helmet. There was a dispute between the driver and the policeman, whose video was shared by the driver on social media." Police also said that further action would depend on the inquiry's findings. advertisementWhile the investigation is underway, Yati Sharma's videos have triggered sharp reactions online.
