Carey Island poised to be tech and food security hub

PETALING JAYA: Selangor is closer to its aspiration to become a smart, competitive and regional leader in green economy and food security with the development of an EduTechnology Park and Food Security Hub on Carey Island. Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the project not only reflected the state government's vision but also strengthened Carey Island's position as an international hub for technology-driven development, education, and food security. The project will be undertaken via a series of memoranda of understanding between Permodalan Negeri Selangor Bhd which will spearhead the project, and three other entities – SD Guthrie Bhd , IJM Corp Bhd and Yayasan Selangor. According to Amirudin, Yayasan Selangor will be tasked with developing an international-standard campus to enhance educational access and build human capital at the EduTechnology Park. 'Yayasan Selangor will play a key role in developing education facilities for the next generation. 'This is not just a physical investment, but an investment in the younger generation of Selangor,' he said in a joint statement. SD Guthrie will be the developer of the project, marking the second strategic collaboration to builds parts of the group's land on Carey Island, which is 79% owned by the company.

PNSB partners with SD Guthrie, IJM, Yayasan Selangor to build edu-tech park, food hub on Carey Island
SHAH ALAM, July 9 — Permodalan Negeri Selangor Bhd (PNSB) yesterday signed memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with three strategic partners, comprising SD Guthrie Bhd, IJM Corporation Bhd and Yayasan Selangor, to develop an edu-technology park and a food security hub on Carey Island, Kuala Langat. Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari stated that the development agreements for these two facilities would support the development of a third port on Carey Island, thereby driving economic growth in southern Selangor. 'I believe the signing of these MOUs will serve as a catalyst, not only to make the third port a highly competitive area with a high twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) volume but also to complement the entire port industry in Selangor,' he said in a speech at the MOU exchange ceremony. The TEU is a general unit of cargo capacity, often used for container ships and container ports. A joint statement stated that the Edu-Technology Park will feature artificial intelligence (AI) technology, smart infrastructure, and green energy, and Yayasan Selangor will develop an international-standard campus to enhance educational access and foster human capital development. It said the MOU between PNSB and SD Guthrie Berhad would explore the proposed development of approximately 192.2 hectares of land owned by SD Guthrie on Carey Island. 'IJM Corporation will act as the developer and implementation partner for the development and infrastructure of the edu-technology park and food security hub. 'It will collaborate with PNSB as the project lead and SD Guthrie as the landowner and equity partner to support the planning and execution of the key development components,' said the statement. — Bernama

Yayasan Selangor Offers Scholarships Worth Over RM2 Mln To 423 Students
SHAH ALAM, April 29 (Bernama) -- Yayasan Selangor is strengthening its commitment towards enhancing the education of children in the state by offering scholarships to 423 students, with a total sponsorship amount of RM2.015 million. Its chief executive officer, Raja Nazirin Shah Raja Mohamad presented the scholarship offer letters to recipients representing various backgrounds including students from low-income families, the B40 group as well as rural areas at the Asrama Yayasan Selangor Klang's Bestari Hall today. Raja Nazirin Shah said that through these scholarships, selected students receive financial assistance in the form of a Small Scholarship of RM 700 per year or a Special Scholarship of RM1,000 per year, in addition to additional benefits covering educational expenses such as school fees, textbooks and other basic necessities. 'Yayasan Selangor also allocates about RM2 million a year to cover the cost of providing food and beverages for students in its two central hostels in Klang and Sabak Bernam, a holistic effort to ensure the welfare and well-being of the students are continuously maintained. "In addition to this scholarship allocation, Yayasan Selangor also implements various academic and character development programmes including guidance classes, free tuition, exam workshops, and academic support programmes such as motivation, identity and leadership," he said. Raja Nazirin Shah said his team is committed to providing all the necessary facilities to support the development of the foundation's sponsored students. He also urged students to fully utilise the opportunities and facilities provided and to strive to become versatile and competitive individuals. 'With all the facilities and programmes provided, all students are expected to become well-rounded individuals, possessing a first-class mindset with extensive knowledge, and to work on honing various skills, in addition to succeeding in life both in this world and the hereafter," he also said. Raja Nazirin Shah added that this initiative reflects the Yayasan Selangor's commitment to continue supporting the education agenda of the state and nation, in line with the desire to produce high-quality human capital capable of contributing to the development of the race and country.
