Trisha Yearwood Says She Never Wrote Her Own Songs Because of 1 Thing a Man Said to Her at Age 19
Trisha Yearwood revealed that a throwaway comment some 40 years ago derailed her songwriting aspirations She said on the TODAY show that "some guy" told her she was "a good singer, but you're not really a writer" when she was 19 The Mirror, her first album of songs she co-wrote, is out in JulyIt's been more than 40 years since Trisha Yearwood's songwriting aspirations were derailed by a single throwaway comment — but now, she's making up for lost time. The country star, 60, is set to release her latest album The Mirror in July, and the record marks the first of her career that she's co-written herself. In an appearance on the TODAY show on Friday, May 16, Yearwood explained that she'd long avoided writing songs of her own because 'some guy' once told her in college she was not a songwriter. 'Bless his heart. I'm sure he probably wouldn't even remember ever saying it, but… I was 19 years old. And I gave him a bunch of poetry. Everybody in Nashville's writing. I was in college,' recalled the star, who graduated from Belmont University. 'He just said, 'Yeah, you're a good singer, but you're not really a writer.' And I just let it be the truth for 40 years.' Yearwood said she finally gained some new perspective upon turning 60 in September. 'I had this kind of 'a ha' moment. I turned 60 last year, and I highly recommend it. Everything sort of opened up,' she said. 'I just thought, 'That doesn't have to be the truth about me just because somebody says it.' And I started writing for me.' The 'She's in Love with the Boy' singer told hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Erin Andrews that she 'didn't ever intend' to make a record, but the more she wrote, the more confidence she gained in her abilities. 'People in my life said, 'You should make a record of this,' and so here we are. It's crazy,' she said. 'For the last 30 years I could always go, 'That's a really personal song, but I didn't write it, so it's not about me.' And now everything has a little piece of me in it.' She continued, 'I always felt like as an artist, I chose songs that I made mine. They were mine when I was done with them. But it's just another layer when you actually have a hand in writing the song.' The Mirror is set for release on July 18, and Yearwood has so far released the songs 'The Wall or the Way Over' and 'Bringing the Angels.' She teased 'Bringing the Angels' in an Instagram post on May 9, revealing she wrote the track with her sister Beth Bernard, plus Bridgette Tatum and Leslie Satcher. "They told me I wasn't a songwriter, so I turned around and co-wrote a whole album,' she captioned the post. Yearwood has co-written a pair of songs over the years with her husband Garth Brooks, whom she married in 2005. They co-wrote the song 'For the Last Time' on her 2019 album Let's Be Frank, and they also share credits on 'What I'm Thankful for (The Thanksgiving Song),' off their joint 2016 holiday record. Linda Ronstadt tribute concert to feature Emmylou Harris, Trisha Yearwood
An all-star lineup of country and rock luminaries is expected to gather in Nashville this summer to honor one of music's most boundary-breaking voices. Trisha Yearwood, Emmylou Harris, Patti Scialfa, Rodney Crowell and James Taylor are slated to perform in a tribute concert celebrating Linda Ronstadt and the Los Angeles country-rock scene on July 22 at the CMA Theater. The event pays homage to Ronstadt, whose soaring vocals and genre-defying catalog made her a defining figure of the 1970s country-rock movement. 'Linda Ronstadt is a big reason I wanted to be a singer,' Yearwood said in a statement. 'I'm honored to be a part of celebrating Linda and this incredible era of music that is such an important part of the history of country music.' The evening will spotlight Ronstadt's enduring influence through performances of her songs and other country-rock classics. It also highlights her deep connections to several of the performers. Crowell, Harris and Taylor — all award-winning artists in their own right — were key contributors to the genre's rise. Scialfa, a longtime member of Bruce Springsteen 's E Street Band, will also lend her voice to the celebration. The concert is presented in conjunction with the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's exhibition 'Western Edge: The Roots and Reverberations of Los Angeles Country-Rock.' Ronstadt has not performed publicly since losing her voice to a rare neurological disorder in 2012. Still, her influence remains profound — especially for Yearwood, who commemorated her at the 2019 Kennedy Center Honors with a performance of the 1974 hit 'You're No Good' that moved her husband, Garth Brooks, to tears and earned a standing ovation from Ronstadt. 'To be a part of honoring Linda at the Kennedy Center last night was a lifelong dream fulfilled,' Yearwood later wrote on Instagram. 'Thank you, Linda for teaching me through your life and music to trust myself and follow my instincts. I love you.' Though Ronstadt spent her early years in Tucson, Ariz. and the Rio Sonora region of Northern Mexico and rose to fame in Los Angeles, she has lived in San Francisco's Sea Cliff neighborhood for the past three decades. To mark her 78th birthday last year, the city's Board of Supervisors officially declared a Linda Ronstadt Day in her honor.

Trish Yearwood gets Hollywood star amid Garth Brooks' rape allegations
Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks have put on a united front as she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Five months after Brooks was accused of sexual battery and assault, which he vehemently denies, the two-time Grammy winner showed his support for his wife as she was honoured for her achievements in the entertainment industry. Brooks was emotional and broke down in tears during the ceremony as he supported his wife, and sat by her side throughout the speeches. When Yearwood went up to the podium, she thanked her husband for being her biggest "cheerleader". "As many accolades and awards as he has won, I never see him get more excited than he does when I receive something," she gushed. "For all the people that want this for me, nobody wants it more than you. I appreciate you for being my support." Yearwood's ceremony comes after the couple revealed they were considering a move to Ireland. During an episode of his Facebook Live series Studio G, Brooks revealed he was "pushing hard" to get a house on the Emerald Isle. The country singer noted that his wife "fell head over heels in love" with Ireland while touring there in 2022.

Trisha Yearwood calls Garth Brooks 'love of my life,' thanks him for being her cheerleader
LOS ANGELES- Trisha Yearwood praised Garth Brooks for being her No. 1 fan on a day when she was the honored guest. Yearwood, 60, held her husband in the highest regards while accepting her star on the coveted Hollywood Walk of Fame Monday. The "She's In Love With A Boy" singer admitted the country icon was her "cheerleader" and said Brooks was just as excited about her big wins in life as she was. "The first Garth that I met is here, and the one that has really been a cheerleader," Yearwood told the crowd. "And as many accolades and awards as he has won, I've never seen him get more excited than he does when I receive something." Yearwood added, "For all the people that want this for me, nobody wants it more than you, and I just appreciate you for, you know… we're down a few stars from each other, but we're going to figure something out." She joked, "We'll put some bread crumbs or something." "As many accolades and awards as he has won, I've never seen him get more excited than he does when I receive something." The "Georgia Rain" singer later admitted that Brooks was the "love of my life." "He's my person. He has accomplished so much in his career, but he is happiest when other people win," she told Extra. "And I think he just believes in me so much, and he believes that I deserve more than I believe I deserve, so I know that he's genuinely the happiest person here today." Carly Pearce exclusively told Fox News Digital that Yearwood was one of the most timeless artists, and the "soundtrack" to her childhood. "You hear songs like 'Walkaway Joe,' and they're the soundtrack to my childhood and why I wanted to do this for a living," Pearce said. "She has been one of those true country artists that has continued to evolve over decades, all while remaining so classic and true and timeless. "She has been one of those true country artists that has continued to evolve over decades, all while remaining so classic and true and timeless." Pearce couldn't pinpoint one instance of key advice Yearwood had bestowed, but more of an essence the country star embodied. "She's one of the most down-to-earth people that I've ever met," Pearce said. "She says hello to everybody. She's everybody's friend, and she's everybody's sister, and I think that's a true testament to who she is." Yearwood and Brooks have been married since 2005, and she is a "bonus mom" to his three children, Taylor, August and Allie, from his marriage to Sandy Mahl. "She's one of the most down-to-earth people that I've ever met." In 2021, Yearwood opened up about their marriage, saying they're both "very much alphas." "Sometimes when two people are driving two big ships it can be difficult." However, she said their marriage is "better now than ever." "I was always the person in relationships when things got difficult I was really happy to just bail," she admitted. "I was good at that. So in this situation, that's not an option because this is the love of my life, so you sit down and talk it through, and that gets you better when you get to the other side."
