Governor Morrisey signs food dye ban into law
House Bill 2354 bans several dyes from being used including Red Dye 40, Yellow Dye 6, and Blue Dye 1.
Foods that have these dyes in them include Mountain Dew, Flamin' Hot Cheetos, and some flavors of Pop Tarts.
Nicholas Stommen, a Hinton resident and Food Service Industry worker, said he has mixed feelings on the bill.
'I'm not against the idea of making sure our food overall is healthier. But a lot of that, I mean, you know, is junk food. We're not exactly expecting it to be all that healthy. It also just feels a bit like, I wouldn't call it government overreach, but I'd call it – there are better things we could be putting manpower, money, and just general like, you know, attention towards, you know?' said Stommen.
Stommen cited flood relief as an example of one of the things he thinks the government should be focusing on.
He also said he thinks it does take away an aspect of choice from people. However, he agreed that the food we consume does need to be healthier as a whole.
