Now, locals in tourist areas allowed to open homestays
Lucknow: As part of its strategy to boost tourism and pilgrimage infrastructure, the Yogi Adityanath-led Cabinet on Tuesday approved the Uttar Pradesh Bed and Breakfast and Homestay Policy-2025. "The policy aims to provide more accessible and comfortable accommodation options for devotees and tourists visiting the state's religious and tourist destinations," said principal secretary, tourism, Mukesh Meshram, adding that the initiative addresses a long-standing issue of accommodation shortages during peak travel seasons at prominent sites. "It is common for hotels at major religious and tourist destinations to be fully booked, leaving visitors with limited or no lodging options. The new policy seeks to resolve this challenge by enabling local residents to offer homestay accommodations," he said. Under the policy, any individual residing in proximity to a religious or tourist site will be allowed to register a homestay unit consisting of one to six rooms, accommodating a maximum of 12 beds. Tourists can avail of the facility for up to seven consecutive days, with provisions for extension through a renewal process. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Amazon CFD : La clave para un ingreso extra (Conoce más) Empezar ahora Registrarse Undo The registration and approval of homestays will be overseen by a committee headed by the district magistrate and superintendent of police to ensure safety and compliance. Only a small fee will be charged to register homestays in rural areas—ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 750. For urban and silver-category homestays, the application fee has been set at Rs 2,000. Lauding the policy in the cabinet briefing, the state's finance minister, Suresh Khanna, said, "Due to Uttar Pradesh's rich cultural heritage and historical sites, the state is already a major attraction for both domestic and international tourists. However, until now, there was no state-level policy for homestays which will help in formalising facilities for the tourists and pilgrims." Adding that the policy also includes financial support and incentives to encourage residents to offer part of their homes for tourism purposes, Khanna further said, "This policy will not only help provide affordable and convenient accommodation to tourists but will also create new income and job opportunities for local people. Overall, it is expected to strengthen the state's economy and tourism infrastructure. " Tourism department officials also revealed that as a result of the lack of a policy framework, homestay operators registered on the central govt's NIDHI+ portal. With the new policy, they can now register easily by getting a no-objection certificate (NOC) from local authorities.

Govt action on madrassas a serious attack on religious freedom: Arshad Madani
Madani's remarks come against the backdrop of a recent drive by the UP government in border districts such as Bahraich, Shravasti, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Balrampur, Lakhimpur Kheri, and Pilibhit. Authorities have shut down over 200 unrecognised madrassas in these districts. Several religious structures operating without proper recognition or on encroached land have also been demolished. Speaking at the 'Madrassa Suraksha Sammelan' held in Saraimeer of Azamon Sunday night, Madani alleged that the Yogi Adityanath-led state government was targeting madrassas and other religious structures in Muslim-majority border districts in violation of Supreme Court directives. Azamgarh (UP), Jun 2 (PTI) Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (Arshad) president Maulana Arshad Madani has criticised the Uttar Pradesh government's action on madrassas in districts bordering Nepal, calling it a 'serious attack' on the religious freedom of Muslims. 'Despite a stay from the Supreme Court, indiscriminate action is being taken in Muslim-dominated districts bordering Nepal. Not just madrassas, but dargahs, eidgahs, and graveyards are being targeted. Hundreds of madrassas have been declared illegal, and sealed. This has created a climate of fear among Muslims,' Madani said. 'If the government is working to spread hate, it is completely unjustified,' he added. Calling the government's drive 'unconstitutional', Madani said the Jamiat is legally challenging the government's action. He also advised madrassa administrations to ensure their institutions are fully compliant with legal and regulatory norms. Recalling the role of madrasaas in India's freedom struggle, Madani said, 'Madrassas have always been centres of learning. Even former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee acknowledged this. History shows that the fight against the British rule was initiated by ulemas, who were the products of madrassas.' He said that institutions like Darul Uloom Deoband were established precisely to produce activists to fight the colonial rule. Later, talking to reporters, Madani said the Jamiat has approached the court against the UP government's 'unjust' measures. He asked madrassa administrators to refrain from protesting on the streets and instead pursue justice through legal means. 'If there are any legal shortcomings in madrassas or mosques, they should be addressed to prevent government action,' he advised. Commenting on the Supreme Court's verdict in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case, Madani said, 'We accepted the judgment in the interest of peace and harmony. The aim of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind is to foster peace in the country.' PTI COR ABN ABN KVK KVK This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. ThePrint holds no responsibility for its content.

This state has over twice the EVs of Delhi or Maharashtra: Check numbers
Uttar Pradesh has over twice the EVs of Delhi or Maharashtra. When it comes to electric vehicle adoption in India, Uttar Pradesh has surged ahead of other states, and not by a small margin. With 4.14 lakh registered electric vehicles, the state has more than twice the number of EVs compared to Delhi (1.83 lakh) or Maharashtra (1.79 lakh), as noted according to an official statement released on Wednesday. This milestone not only places Uttar Pradesh at the top of the EV registration chart but also reflects its growing role as a leader in the country's e-mobility landscape. The state's proactive policies, infrastructure push, and massive adoption of e-rickshaws have made it the biggest beneficiary under the Centre's FAME I and FAME II schemes , PTI reported. A large part of UP's success comes from its Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy 2022, introduced by the Yogi Adityanath-led government. The policy targets an ambitious Rs 30,000 crore investment and the creation of 10 lakh new jobs. This move is aimed at transforming the state into a global hub for EVs and battery production. Interestingly, e-rickshaws have emerged as the primary force behind UP's EV boom. These vehicles, which are widely used for local passenger and goods transport, account for 85% of the state's total EV sales. Their popularity in urban areas has helped drive large-scale EV adoption in a relatively short span of time. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Simple One review: Is this the EV to beat? | TOI Auto The state is also ramping up its EV infrastructure. Plans are already in motion to install over 300 new charging stations across 16 municipalities. Ayodhya is expected to get the largest share of these new charging points. Nationwide, India currently has around 33,000 EV chargers, but the charger-to-vehicle ratio remains far from ideal. While the global benchmark sits between 6 and 20 EVs per charger, India's ratio is still at 135, according to a study by Alvarez & Marsal. As of 2024, India has seen a significant uptick in EV adoption. Around 1.95 million electric vehicles were sold across the country this year, with daily sales averaging 5,325 units. The overall EV share in the automotive market rose to about 8%, up from 6.8% last year.

‘Break Rule Of Law': SC Raps UP Govt For 'Hijacking' Litigation In Banke Bihari Temple Case
Last Updated: The apex court was hearing a petition to modify is order, which had approved Uttar Pradesh government's redevelopment scheme for the Shri Banke Bihari temple using its funds. The Supreme Court on Tuesday pulled up the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government for 'hijacking" the litigation between two private parties over management of the famous Shri Thakur Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan. A bench of Justice B V Nagarathna and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma rapped the state government and said if the state government starts entering into a private dispute between parties, it will result in breakdown of rule of law. 'Was a state a party to the proceedings? In what capacity has the state entered the dispute? If states start entering into a private dispute between parties it will breakdown of rule of law," the top court remarked as quoted by news agency PTI. 'You can't hijack the litigation. In a private litigation between two parties, state filing an impleadment application and hijacking it is not permissible," the bench observed. The apex court was hearing a petition to modify is order, which had approved Uttar Pradesh government's redevelopment scheme for the Shri Banke Bihari temple using its funds. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for petitioner Devendra Nath Goswami, claiming to be direct descent from Swami Sri Hari Das Ji Goswami, the temple's 16th century founder, said that the fund of Rs 300 crore has been given to the Uttar Pradesh government without making us the party. 'How can you by an order in another petition direct that earning of a private temple be handed over to the state," Sibal submitted. The counsel appearing for the UP government informed the Supreme Court that the state has formed a trust to manage the holy shrine and oversee work on the proposed corridor. Entire money would rest with the trust, not with the government by virtue of the enactment, said the UP government's lawyer. 'People have died in temple," said the UP government lawyer, spotlighting the pinched streets around the temple and underlining that building a corridor is essential. The top court directed the counsel for the state government to give a copy of the ordinance passed with regard to the trust to the petitioner and directed the concerned principal secretary to file an affidavit by July 29. Supreme Court Clears Banke Bihari Corridor Earlier on May 15, the top court paved the way for the state government's scheme to develop the temple corridor for the benefit of scores of devotees. The bench had allowed the Uttar Pradesh government's plea to utilise the funds of Shri Banke Bihari Temple only for the purchase of 5-acre land around the temple to create a holding area. Under the proposed scheme placed on record by the state for development for the temple, the court said, 5 acre land around the temple had to be acquired and developed by constructing parking lots, accommodation for the devotees, toilets, security check posts and other amenities. On May 19, Goswami filed a plea and said the implementation of the proposed redevelopment project was practically unfeasible, and any attempt for redevelopment of the temple premises without the involvement and inputs of those who were historically and operationally associated with the temple's functioning was likely to result in administrative chaos. The Supreme Court's May 15 verdict modified the November 8, 2023, order of the Allahabad High Court on a PIL filed by the Uttar Pradesh government, which accepted the state's ambitious scheme but refused to permit the state to utilise the temple funds. Banke Bihari Temple The Shri Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan is one of the most revered and famous temples dedicated to Lord Krishna. It holds immense significance for devotees due to its unique customs, rich history, and the belief that Lord Krishna, in the form of Banke Bihari, directly interacts with his devotees. Banke Bihari literally means 'bent in three places". The idol of Lord Krishna stands in the Tribhanga posture, a graceful threefold bending form, which is characteristic of Lord Krishna.
