Lucknow: In line with its commitment to promoting healthy lifestyle through yoga, Yogi Adityanath-led UP govt will organise large-scale yoga practice sessions at more than 4,000 locations across the state on
International Yoga Day
, Jun 21.
Yoga Week will be observed from Jun 15 to 21, during which various programmes will be held at district, tehsil, block and village panchayat levels. These include mass yoga sessions, seminars, workshops, symposiums, speech competitions, rangoli contests, essay writing and slogan competitions to raise awareness and encourage public participation.
As part of the nationwide celebration, mass yoga demonstrations will take place at 100,000 locations across the country, with 4,075 in Uttar Pradesh following the Common Yoga Protocol on Jun 21.
Principal secretary AYUSH, Ranjan Kumar, said that under the direction of Chief Minister
Yogi Adityanath
, 5,000 trained yoga instructors were prepared to promote yoga across the state who will lead yoga sessions across UP.
Principals and managers of AYUSH colleges have formed various committees to ensure success of Yoga Week with yoga-related programmes in medical, vocational and other educational institutions.
On Jun 21, a large-scale yoga demonstration will be held in UP that will commemorate completion of 10 years of International Yoga Day, with a special 'Yoga Sangam' programme, covering every district of the country.

The Union government has notified rules of a new reservation and domicile policy in the Union Territory of Ladakh in response to protests by political, religious and social groups since 2019. Now only those who have stayed in Ladakh continuously for 15 years, beginning in 2019, will qualify as domiciles. This means that non-native persons living in Ladakh will be considered domiciled only after 2034. Besides, the government also announced an 85% reservation for Scheduled Tribes in government jobs in Ladakh, addressing the fear that non-natives would corner employment opportunities. More than 97% of the population in the Union Territory belongs to Scheduled Tribes. Earlier, only 80% of government jobs were reserved for them. In August 2019, the residents of Ladakh lost exclusive rights to own immovable property and get government jobs in the region. This marks an increase of 65 active infections since Monday. Two of the deaths were reported in Maharashtra and one each in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Of the five persons who died, four were elderly individuals with pre-existing health conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. The number of active cases has seen a surge since May 22, rising from 257 to more than 4,000. District Collector P. Ranjith Basha on Tuesday said that Yogandhra initiative launched by the State government aims to transform the State into a 'healthy and happy Andhra Pradesh.' As part of the initiative, a large-scale yoga session was organised at the Orvakal Rock Garden by the Tourism department. Nearly 1,000 yoga teachers participated in the session. Mr. Basha revealed that on International Yoga Day, which falls on June 21, the government plans to mobilise 10 lakh individuals from across the district for a mass yoga session. The training classes for the master trainers and trainers are completed, and village-level yoga competitions are presently ongoing. The Collector said: 'In an effort to blend wellness and heritage tourist sites, yoga sessions will be held at famous tourist sites. On June 12 at Konda Reddy Burju, on June 17 a special yoga session will be held with 5,000 sanitation workers in Kurnool, and on June 18 at Mantralayam.

Massive yoga camp held for fishermen in Srikakulam, 5,000 attend

More than 5,000 fishermen, along with local residents, participated in a mega yoga camp held at Pedaganagallavanipeta beach in Srikakulam mandal on Tuesday. The event, aimed at involving every section of society, was an initiative of Collector Swapnil Dinkar Pundkar as part of the ongoing Yogandhra-2025 activities. Srikakulam MLA Gondu Shankar lit the lamp and formally inaugurated the yoga camp. Speaking to the media, he emphasised how yoga can enhance the fitness level of fishermen, who face many ordeals at sea. He asked them to continue practicing yoga daily, assuring that the government will extend support through trained yoga instructors even after the International Yoga Day. Present at the event were Srikakulam District Forest Offcer S. Venkatesh, District Medical and Health Officer K. Anitha, and others.
