Disney To Release Intergalactic Pixar Adventure 'Elio' On 4K UHD Blu-Ray This September
Disney has officially announced that the Pixar adventure Elio will be available to own early on Digital on August 19 and on 4K UHD Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray, and DVD on September 9, 2025. Directed by Madeline Sharafian, Domee Shi, and Adrian Molina, the film stars the voices of Yonas Kibreab, Zoe Saldaña, Remy Edgerly, Young Dylan, Matthias Schweighöfer, Brandon Moon, Brad Garrett, and Jameela Jamil. It follows an eleven-year-old boy named Elio Solís (Kibreab) who is mistaken for the intergalactic ambassador of Earth after being beamed up to the Communiverse by aliens for making contact, and must navigate a crisis that involves the warlord father of an alien he befriended. The 4K UHD Blu-Ray will arrive with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos audio. The digital and Blu-ray offer hours of exclusive bonus content including astronautic and artistic featurettes plus a gag reel, deleted scenes, and a peek at Pixar's Easter Egg inclusions. Filipino-American star Yonas Kibreab to voice ‘Pinocchio & the Water of Life'
LOS ANGELES: Fresh off his leading role in Pixar's Elio, Filipino American teen actor Yonas Kibreab (pic) is showing no signs of slowing down as he shifts from reaching the stars to telling the truth. At just 15, the rising talent is stepping into a new dimension of storytelling, not only as a voice actor but also as an executive producer in the upcoming animated indie feature 'Pinocchio & the Water of Life.' A live-action adaptation of 'Solo Leveling' is currently in the works, with Byeon Woo-seok chosen to star as the lead. The film, described by The Hollywood Reporter as a steampunk reimagining of the classic tale of the wooden puppet who wishes to become a real boy, is currently in post-production and aiming for a 2025 release through Asymmetric Studios. 'I loved voicing Pinocchio,' said Kibreab in an official statement. 'The animation is incredible—like nothing I've ever seen. Victor is a true artist, and being an executive producer on this project has been such an honor.' Directed by Victor K, the project has an impressive voice cast that includes animation veterans such as James Hong, Fred Tatasciore, Rob Paulsen, Maurice LaMarche, Tom Kenny, Phil LaMarr, Candi Milo and Yeni Alvarez. Kibreab's resume already reads like a seasoned professional's. Elio takes flight: A journey through space and emotion in Pixar's latest offering
Ignore the 'box office failure' narrative trailing this one. Pixar is synonymous with pedigreed family entertainment, and its latest animated adventure, Elio, is a mix of colourful aliens and sincere emotion. Not to get political, but one benefit of modern-day conspiracy theories is that, today, believing in aliens is rather… pedestrian. We should treat it as an opportunity to get excited again about the idea of meeting creatures from another world. Elio, Pixar's latest cinematic outing, got that message loud and clear, and we're left all the more emotionally wrecked for it. The film tells the story of Elio (voiced by Yonas Kibreab), an eleven-year-old boy whose family related tragedy has left him in the care of his loving but begrudging aunt Olga (Zoe Saldaña). Convinced that extraterrestrial life must exist, Elio is constantly going the extra mile to make first contact and/or get abducted. Going that extra mile eventually lands him in hot water and stuck at a military camp. But not soon after, the universe replies to his calls and transports him to the alien Communiverse, believing him to be Earth's ambassador. And while Elio is seemingly happy, making new friends, the situation soon becomes complicated, leaving him wondering about what his true place in space is. The biggest flaw that Elio has in its spacesuit is its archetypal plot. While younger audiences may not see where the story is going, older ones can see the future character beats being clearly telegraphed. What aggravates this are some of the fundamental plot points, most notably the one where Elio is mistaken for someone he isn't. These kickstart events and interactions that have to happen because the plot needs them to. And, with educated foresight, you're just left there, waiting for them to happen. Visual identity Weirdly, the film also struggles to have a distinct, visual identity, both in the Pixar pantheon and in the last year or so of animated films. The overabundance of colours and alien designs results in the eyes being overwhelmed, making it difficult to appreciate elements that the film is trying to spotlight. Pixar animation is second to none. More than that, Elio features some of the most spectacular environmental and lighting details to date. But its whole is not greater than the sum of its parts. Archetypes aren't an inherently bad thing; neither is unoriginal storytelling, just so long as you can still tell a story well. And for all the flaws listed, Elio gets away with them thanks to its emotional depth. The film's opening sequence alone is a savage gut-punch, introducing Elio's personal circumstance and the sacrifices Olga has made to be there for her nephew, and also ruminating on the beauty and mystery of space travel. Elio's relationship with his aunt is not just beautiful, but underpins the film's exploration of loneliness — the stinging sensation that you are not where you're supposed to be or with the people you're supposed to be. Elio also succeeds in just being pure, plain fun, empowered by very likeable characters and a disinterest in taking matters too seriously. Directors Madeline Sharafian, Domee Shi, and Adrian Molina (who left the project early to go work on the upcoming Coco sequel) keep the film's focus where it should be while also doubling down on the sense of cosmic adventure. That sense is reinforced by composer Rob Simonsen's breathtaking musical score, one that typifies the feeling of attending a planetarium show or walking through a shadow-lit space exhibition at a museum. At its heart, the film exemplifies what Pixar does better than any other animation company (sibling Walt Disney Animation Studios included): consistently deliver emotional impact with its storytelling. And what it lacks in originality, it makes up for in commitment and sincerity. Elio is in love with the mystery of space, and it also wears that on its sleeve, complete with occasional narration by Carl Sagan. For all its time spent among the stars, Elio is by no means world-changing. But like the stars it travels among, it burns brightly, devoid of twinkling cynicism. No matter where in the universe you find yourself, you can rely on it to guide you home. DM Elio is in cinemas now, having been released on 20 June.

When is 'Elio' coming to streaming? Here's our best guess
"Elio" is another charming family movie from Disney and Pixar, but it's off to a rocky start. The movie sees alien-obsessed 11-year-old Elio Solis (Yonas Kibreab) being beamed up after being mistakenly identified as Earth's ambassador by a coalition of alien representatives from the "Communiverse." Elio subsequently ends up tangled up in an intergalactic incident. Although it's reviewed well — "Elio" is currently rated 83% from critics and 91% from fans on Rotten Tomatoes — "Elio" brought in just $21 million over its opening domestic weekend. That's Pixar's worst-ever box office opening, and that's a crying shame; as someone who has seen "Elio," this is one of my favorite Pixar releases in recent memory. It deserves to find more fans, and you can read my full "Elio" review to find out why. If you're currently waiting to watch the new family movie at home, we do not yet have a confirmed "Elio" streaming date. However, I've made an educated guess at when the new movie might come to Disney Plus; here's when you might be able to stream "Elio." At the time of writing, the only way to see "Elio" right now is to see it on the big screen. It only hit theaters on June 20, so the wait's only just begun for a streaming date. Plus, unless it doesn't follow the usual pattern, we'll first have to wait for Pixar's latest effort to come to Premium Video-on-Demand (PVOD) storefronts, first. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Being a Disney and Pixar movie, though, we can expect it to stream on Disney Plus when it does become available. Based on the average wait for a new Pixar release, I'm predicting that "Elio" could come to Disney Plus in late September 2025. If I had to guess a specific day, I'd opt for September 24, 2025. That's based on the fact that we typically wait around three months for Disney movies to come to Disney Plus. For example, 2024's megahit "Inside Out 2" hit theaters on June 14 and started streaming on September 25, while "Elemental" dropped on September 13, 2023, after hitting theaters on June 16. Admittedly, given "Elio" isn't exactly doing well at the box office (which is a real shame, it's great), there's always a chance that Disney decides to bring "Elio's" streaming release date forward. Of course, this is all speculation, as we do not have an official "Elio" streaming date at the time of writing. As soon as one's confirmed, though, we'll be sure to share it here, so keep checking back.
