Yonkers psychologist found beaten, stabbed to death in home

Police are investigating after a 79-year-old psychologist was found beaten and stabbed to death in her Yonkers home two weeks ago. Crime scene tape is still outside the door, near flowers left by neighbors, at the garden apartment home of psychologist Connie Patrono. Gregorio Inestroza, the super at the Bronxville Ridge complex, checked on Patrono on May 16; she hadn't been seen for days and acquaintances were worried. "I got concerned and went into her apartment and found her laying on the floor," he said. The medical examiner says Patrono died from multiple blows with a blunt object and stab wounds. "She was a great person that didn't bother anybody" People who knew Patrono told CBS News New York she was very intelligent and could be quite engaging, but also eccentric. She lived in a modest apartment despite owning a home worth well over $1 million in Bronxville, 1.5 miles away. The home, which she grew up in, is run-down and the subject of multiple complaints to the building's department. "It's very, not only scary, but it's just alarming, because she was a great person that didn't bother anybody," Inestroza said. Thirty years ago, she was widely quoted as an expert on depression and other disorders. The super can't imagine why she met such a violent end. "It's just that she was very trusting, so," Inestroza said. Yonkers Police won't say much about the case other than they are diligently working to bring whoever is responsible to justice.

Hard-body NYC cop accused of trying to protect drug dealer boyfriend fired from force — despite ongoing lawsuit over topless pic

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch axed the hardbody cop who was once suspended from the NYPD for interfering with a probe into her alleged drug dealer boyfriend, The Post has learned. Tisch dismissed Alisa Bajraktarevic — who has an active lawsuit against the department over a topless photo of her that circulated among cops — on May 2, according to internal personnel orders obtained by The Post. Bajraktarevic, 34, of Yonkers, worked in the Robbery Squad and was suspended for 30 days after a 2023 incident in which she tried to stop cops from searching the car of her alleged drug dealer beau in the Bronx, The Post reported exclusively at the time. Cops who made the stop surrounded her car, prompting protests from both Bajraktarevic and her then-boyfriend Kelvin Hernandez, 33. Hernandez, 33, was charged with resisting arrest and has his own ongoing lawsuit against the department. She insisted to cops at the time that he wasn't selling drugs. A police source at the time said he was under investigation for drugs. 'Narcotics had been watching him,' the source said. 'They didn't know who she was until she stepped up and said who she was.' The stunning cop sued the NYPD last year in Manhattan Supreme Court claiming her career was derailed after an officer she briefly dated shared a topless photo of her with other members of the department in a group chat. Bajraktarevic sent the sexy snap to Lt. Mark Rivera, whom she dated for a few months that year, she said in her lawsuit. Rivera allegedly shared the photo in a group text with other cops, and it spread like wildfire, she alleges. Many of her own posts on Instagram and Reddit show the officer in other suggestive photos, including one of her lying on her belly in the sun wearing a thong bikini under the sun in Cancun, Mexico. Another post shows her standing on a treadmill at Xtreme Fitness in Mount Vernon. A third shows her shooting a picture with her phone of her backside, captioned, 'Thick police officer.' Bajraktarevic, who was with the NYPD for 12 years, is seeking unspecified damages from the city, Rivera, and another supervisor she claims sexually harassed her in 2022. Her dismissal was 'retaliatory,' said Bajraktarevic's lawyer, John Scola. 'There is no doubt that our client's internal complaints of sexual harassment, the unlawful dissemination of a naked photograph of her, and her lawsuit against the NYPD were the true motivating factors behind her termination,' Scola said. 'We are confident that once this matter is adjudicated …. the retaliatory nature of her discharge will be fully exposed.' The NYPD confirmed Bajraktarevic was fired but declined further comment.

New York should accelerate downstate casino approvals, Yonkers mayor says

The mayor of Yonkers says New York already has a winning pair of downstate casinos and thinks the state gaming commission should not wait until the December deadline to award licenses and cash in. Mayor Mike Spano says Empire City in Yonkers and Resorts World in Queens should immediately be approved for full table gaming, so the state can start reaping the revenue. New York casino licenses still up for grabs Spano's statement comes after entertainment mogul Jay-Z was in Albany this week, reportedly building support for his team's bid to build a casino in New York City's Times Square. In addition to Jay-Z's bid, other proposed casino sites include Coney Island, Citi Field and Hell's Kitchen. But the pool of downstate casino applicants has been shrinking in recent weeks. Wynn Resorts dropped its bid for a casino at Hudson Yards and Las Vegas Sands walked away from a proposal at the Nassau Coliseum. The New York State Gaming Commission will license three full "table gaming casinos" out of eight expected applicants -- or nine if Nassau County finds another way in -- bringing table games, like poker and blackjack, to the New York City area. John Sabini, a former New York gaming official, believes the two existing "slots only" casinos, Empire City and Resorts World, have a major advantage for a full gaming license. "They've been good partners. They provide a lot of revenue right now. They're up and running. People are used to them being there, so the opposition wouldn't be there," Sabini said. MGM said it's ready to expand Empire City to create a live entertainment venue if it gets a full gaming license. Award casino licenses before "potential dips in the economy," mayor says Organized opposition will be a major drag on several of the casino proposals, which is why Spano thinks the state should enable the Yonkers and Queens casinos to expand before the December deadline. "We have potential federal cuts, potential dips in the economy that we're faced with. These casinos mean jobs, more aid to education," the mayor said. The state gaming commission's process calls for waiting until December to announce the three license winners. "The processes can be changed," Spano said. "Let's move forward at least with these two casinos, and then let the third casino happen organically." Spano also urged the state to issue approvals shortly after the application period ends in June.

Styles P Says He & Jim Jones ‘Ain't in the Same League' When Asked About Verzuz Battle

Styles P doesn't think he and Jim Jones are in the same category. When No Funny Sh— podcast co-host and Harlem native KP suggested that Jim Jones had better songs than Styles P when it came to a Verzuz, the Yonkers rappers respectfully disagreed and laid out the differences between the two artists. 'This is what hip-hop is about: You connecting with music that connects with you. If that's how you feel, I ain't mad at you for feeling that way. I f—in' totally think… I know you're f—in' wrong.' He continued: 'Me and Jim ain't in the same league. Me and Jim don't do the same things. I am a bar master. I am a lyrical technician. I been on joints with some of the best MCs in the world: Big, Hov, Black Thought, Talib… I bar sh– down. If there's a lyricist or MC, I'm one of their f—in' favorites. He then continued by saying he's got love for Jim and respect for how he came up in the game, but at the same time feels a little disrespected by the comparison. 'I'm not here to make catchy hooks. … I don't knock that,' he explained. 'I'm trying to say some sh– that's gonna make your soul move. That's what I'm into. So when I say a verse, if it resonates with you, it's gonna be some sh– that you may catch 10 years later down the line, so me and Jim don't do the same things. I have the utmost respect for Jim, for how he built his career. I love Jim, that's like my bro, but I think to compare us is an unfair comparison.' If you recall, both rappers' respective groups battled in one of the best Verzuz face-offs to date when The LOX dismantled The Diplomats at The Theater at Madison Square Garden back in 2021.
