CHAN 2024: Morocco Stumble as Kenya Take Group A Lead
Morocco's local team lost 1-0 to Kenya in their Group A match at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Nairobi.
Morocco started strongly, pressing Kenya's defence, but failed to convert their chances. Ayoub Mouloua left the field injured in the 21st minute and was replaced by Younes Kaabi.
Kenya scored the only goal shortly before half-time, with Ryan Ogam finding the net in the 42nd minute with a low shot to the bottom right-hand corner of Al Harrar. Kenya's Chris Erambo was then sent off in stoppage time for a dangerous tackle on Anas Mahraoui.
In the second half, Morocco pushed for an equaliser. Sabir Bougrine's effort in the 65th minute went over the bar, their best chance of the game.
Kenya now lead Group A with seven points from three matches. The Democratic Republic of Congo are second with three points from two games, Morocco third with three points from two matches, Angola fourth with one point from two matches, and Zambia last without points from one game.
Morocco will face Zambia next Thursday at 3:00 PM (GMT+1) for their final group stage game.
