Seventh title reaffirms Seeb's dominance in volleyball
MUSCAT: Seeb Club reaffirmed their dominance on the local volleyball scene by clinching the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth Volleyball Shield for the seventh consecutive time, following a deserved 3-0 victory over Majees in the final match held at the main hall of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. Seeb players expressed their delight with the new achievement. Ahmed al Toubi credited the victory to a well-integrated system within the club, saying: 'Seven consecutive titles don't happen by chance — Seeb know how to make the difference.' Russian player Bogdan noted that the team had reached its peak performance and attributed the title to strong chemistry and hard work within the squad. Bogdan, who delivered a consistent performance in the final, remarked that the team had achieved "peak cohesion," emphasising that continuous work despite the pressure of matches led them to this level. Fellow Russian player Artem praised the development of the Omani league, describing the tournament as "full of challenges," and expressed his willingness to continue with the team if asked to stay. Head coach Jamal al Maamari stated that this was his ninth domestic title, praising the team's collective performance and focus. He added, 'The team has become a formidable force at the Gulf and Arab levels, and we aim to continue shining in the upcoming league final against Al Salam.' Sayyid Malik bin Shihab Al Said HH Sayyid Malik bin Shihab al Said, a board member of Seeb Club, congratulated the team on this well-earned achievement, calling it the natural result of years of continuous work and technical and administrative stability. 'We have maintained the same coaching staff and core player lineup, which directly contributed to sustained high performance and positive results,' he said. 'This has been one of the most competitive seasons, especially among the top four teams.' He added, 'Our ambitions don't stop here we now aim to replicate this success in the league final against Al Salam. We know it will be a tough match, but we are confident in our team's ability to keep up the strong performance and win the title.' Seventh title reaffirms Seeb's dominance in volleyball FATIGUE On the other side, Majees coach Haithem al Waslati attributed the loss to physical fatigue after playing the semifinal less than 24 hours earlier. 'We weren't at our best mentally or physically, and now our focus shifts to the league,' he said a sentiment echoed by several players. Majees player Hilal al Maqbali pointed out that "match congestion, a short preparation window, and lack of cohesion" significantly impacted the team's performance — especially since a new professional player joined and a new coach took over just two days before the final. Adam al Jalboobi agreed, stating that 'the team had only one light training session, and the sudden coaching change affected our gameplay.' From the Oman Volleyball Association (OVA) side, Dr Salam al Toubi, OVA Vice-Chairman, described the championship as successful by all standards. 'We witnessed strong competition among 19 clubs, and the technical level this season was high thanks to the presence of foreign professionals,' he said. Aisha al Jabri, a board member of the federation, also praised the quality of the matches, noting that the involvement of professional players helped elevate the overall standard. She revealed that the OVA is currently studying mechanisms to better regulate the recruitment of foreign players in a way that benefits the sport in the long-term.

MUSCAT: Seeb were crowned champions of the 2024-25 Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth Volleyball Shield after a well-deserved straight-set victory (3-0) over Majees Club in the final match held on Wednesday evening at the main hall of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. The final was held under the auspices ofDr Ahmed bin Salim al Mandhari, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Health for Planning and Health Regulation. With this achievement, Seeb continue their dominance in the tournament, securing the title for the seventh consecutive time — further affirming the team's technical stability and the outstanding performance of their players under the guidance of both the coaching and administrative staff. Seeb captain receives the Ministry's Shield. — Abdulwahid al Hamadani In the third-place match, Al Salam Club claimed the bronze medal after a hard-fought and thrilling 3-2 win over Al Bashayer in a match that was marked by dramatic shifts and extended to a deciding set. In the final, the first set started evenly and with high intensity. Seeb opened the scoring after a service error by Majees's Hilal al Muqbali, followed by a second point from their foreign player Artem. Sami al Jadeedi quickly responded for Majees, levelling the score after a wide shot by Seeb's Bogdan. Seeb captain receives the Ministry's Shield. — Abdulwahid al Hamadani Seeb continued to apply pressure, with Saud al Maamari scoring the third point, followed by another error from Al Jadeedi, giving Seeb a 4-2 lead. Artem then extended the gap to 5-2. Though Majees's professional player Ibeid tried to close the gap, Saud al Maamari fired back with three consecutive points, increasing the lead to five. Both teams exchanged points until the score reached 12-11 in favour of Seeb, with Al Maamari standing out. Seeb capitalised on an error by Huth al Jalboobi to widen the lead to 15-12. Majees showed determination and managed to level the score at 18-18. However, Seeb regained control thanks to the trio of Bogdan, Artem and Al Maamari. Despite the continued efforts of Majees players Ibeid and Christian, Seeb clinched the first set 25-22 after a strong performance from both teams. Seeb maintained their technical superiority with powerful serves and capitalised on their opponent's mistakes, building a 20-10 lead. Artem continued to shine and closed the set 25-12 for Seeb with a commanding all-around display. In the third set, Majees made a strong start, with Huth al Jalboobi scoring the first point. Seeb quickly responded through Bogdan, and although Christian added another for Majees, Artem levelled the score. Saud al Maamari then added two consecutive points to make it 4-2. Ibeid managed to narrow the gap twice, bringing the score to 5-4, but Artem kept the lead for Seeb. Muscat: The curtain will fall on Wednesday evening at 5 pm on the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth Volleyball Shield competition, with the much-anticipated final match between Seeb and Majees taking place at the main hall of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. The final will be held under the auspices of Dr Ahmed bin Salim al Mandhari, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Health for Planning and Health Regulation. Prior to the final, the third-place match between Salam and Al Bashayer will be played at 2 pm on the same court. Seeb secured their place in the final after an exciting 3-0 victory over Al Bashayer in a match marked by intense competitiveness from the start. The opener was thrilling and evenly matched, with both teams trading points until reaching a 17-17 tie. Al Bashayer impressed with strong serves and standout performances from Afghan import Islam, while Seeb relied on powerful spikes from Ismail al Hadi and Russian player Bogdan. Seeb eventually clinched the set in dramatic fashion, 31-29, thanks to crucial defensive stands. In the second set, Al Bashayer started strong again with attacks led by Islam, but Seeb quickly regained control through dominant blocks by Artem and Bogdan, asserting superiority at the net. Strong defensive work from Saud al Maamari helped reduce reception errors, allowing Seeb to comfortably win the set 25-17. In the third set, Al Bashayer showed determination to fight back and took an early lead, but Seeb responded swiftly with Bogdan's powerful backline attacks and Artem's blocking prowess. Despite late efforts from Saman and Islam, Seeb sealed the set 25-23 to secure a spot in the final. MAJEES ELIMINATE SALAM Majees booked their place in the final with a solid 3-0 win over Al Salam in a tough match held at the Sohar Sports Complex. A tightly contested set saw both teams exchange leads until the score reached 26-26. Majees capitalised on decisive moments with tactical precision and effective serve to win 28-26. In the second set, Majees exploited defensive lapses by Salam, particularly on counter plays, and utilised fast-paced plays behind the block to edge the set 25-23, despite a late surge from Salam. In the third set, Majees entered the final set with confidence and dominated from the outset, capitalising on Salam's loss of focus. They wrapped up the set 25-19 and completed the straight-set win. This season's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth Volleyball Shield featured 16 clubs: Seeb, Oman Club, Al Salam, Majees, Sohar, Bahla, Al Bashayer, Sur, Shabab, Al Khabourah, Masirah, Ittihad, Mirbat, Al Nasr, Salalah and Saham. The tournament witnessed varying levels of technical performance and strong competition among the participating teams.
