Luca Guadagnino Eyes ‘Artificial' At Amazon MGM As Next Movie With Andrew Garfield, Monica Barbaro And ‘Anora' Actor Yura Borisov Circling

After his DC Studios pic Sgt. Rock got pushed a full year, Luca Guadagnino has moved fast to find his next movie. The director in talks to helm Artificial at Amazon MGM Studios. While deals are still not closed, he looks to have found a strong ensemble as insiders say Andrew Garfield, Monica Barbaro and Anora breakout Yura Borisov are in early talks to star. While not confirmed, sources say the film revolves around the period at the artificial intelligence company OpenAI in 2023 that saw CEO Sam Altman fired and rehired in a matter of days. Simon Rich wrote the script and will produce alongside Heyday Films' David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford. Jennifer Fox is also in talks to produce. Rock later this summer with Colin Farrell set to star. When the film had to push a full year, Guadagnino moved quickly to find something he could get up and running this year and mulled several options before landing on Artificial. While technically the film is in development until everyone has a closed deal, the idea would be to shoot this year once those deals have closed. The film reunites Guadagnino and Amazon MGM Studios. He directed After the Hunt, starring Julia Roberts, Garfield and Ayo Edebiri, which the studio is releasing in theaters October 10, and Challengers, starring Zendaya, which the studio released theatrically last year. Heyman is also already in business with the studio as he gears up to produce the next James Bond film alongside Amy Pascal. Additionally, he produced all eight film adaptations of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books, as well as the three Fantastic Beasts films. Guadagnino is repped by CAA and Range Media Partners, Garfield is repped by CAA and Gordon & French, Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern, Barbaro is repped by UTA and Range, and Borisov is repped by UTA and ColorCreative. Rich is repped by CAA. Of Course Marvel Boosts February, but We Hope for Breakouts Like ‘The Monkey'

Led by Marvel's 'Captain America: Brave New World' (Disney), February will continue the three-month trend of improved box office compared to the previous year. By the end of February, we might be 25 percent of 2024. Nobody expects that to continue for the full year. If it did, grosses for U.S./Canada theaters would reach $11.5 billion. In 2018 we saw about $12 billion — at current ticket prices, that equates to $15 billion. More from IndieWire Before He Wrote the Script for 'Anora,' Sean Baker Cast Yura Borisov 'Heart Eyes' Review: 'My Bloody Valentine' Meets 'Set It Up' in Josh Ruben's Brilliant Horror Rom-Com January rose 10 percent from last year, but more than two thirds of that gross came from holdovers. 'Den of Thieves 2: Pantera' (Lionsgate) was the best of a weak group with $33 million in January, but Universal's 'Dog Man' and Sony's One of Them Days' will each far exceed that total. A total of around $550 million in February looks doable; last year was an abysmal $375 million. In the lead will be the new 'Captain America,' which is also the first Disney Marvel entry since 'Deadpool & Wolverine' last July. It could gross $175 million-$200 million in its first two weeks. By comparison, the most recent 'America' franchise release grossed $500 million adjusted. That's a nice improvement over last year. But before Covid, February always grossed over $600 million — in many years, over $800 million (adjusted). In 2018, when 'Black Panther' debuted, it passed $1 billion unadjusted. This entry starts a new series, with Anthony Mackie replacing Chris Evans in the lead (same title, different character). It is directed by Julius Onah, whose previous credits include the acclaimed 'Luce.' He's another indie director in the Marvel roster that includes Cate Shortland, Chloe Zhao, Nia DaCosta, Ryan Coogler. Holdovers led by 'Dog Man' should provide a similar amount to the total. 'Paddington in Peru' (Sony), which opened in much of the world late last year ($93 million so far) looks like the other new release with the best chance to gross close to $50 million during the month. Both 'Paddington' and 'Captain America' open February 14, capturing both Valentine's Day and a four-day holiday weekend. 'The Monkey' (Neon), which opens February 21, is the wild card among the month's new films. Based on a Stephen King short story, it is directed by Osgood Perkins ('Longlegs'). Wide releases include 'Love Hurts' (Universal) and 'Heart Eyes' (Sony), both counterprogrammed against the February 7 Super Bowl; 'Unbreakable Boy' (Lionsgate) February 21; and 'The Last Breath' (Focus) February 28. These lower-budget originals aren't projected to break out, but one or more opening over $10 million would boost the month, build on the success of 'One of Them Days,' and drive interest in producing similar titles. Yura Borisov is the first Oscar-nominated Russian actor in almost 50 years

Russian actor Yura Borisov has become the first Russian actor to be nominated for an Oscar in almost five decades for his breakout role in Sean Baker's 2024 romantic comedy-drama movie, Anora . Borisov, who was nominated for best supporting actor, plays the role of a Russian oligarch's henchman, Igor. The actor has also received nominations for his role from BAFTA, the Golden Globes, Critics Choice and SAG Awards. 'I was inside my car with my daughters and wife, and my nomination was first and my name was first. And after that … screaming and crying. [It was] a very emotional moment, I can say, for everybody. [ Anora is about] connection between people. Between mentalities and nationalities and cultures. … Of course, it's not easy I know, and everybody knows, but it's possible. And during this shoot I [felt] that we are different but at the same time we were absolutely similar. And so, for me, it's about connection between souls and it's possible,' Borisov said in an interview from Moscow. Here's everything to know about Anora 's breakout actor, Yura Borisov. 'When I was in kindergarten I wanted to be a cosmonaut, and after that I wanted to be an architect and after that a journalist. Finally, I understood I just wanted to do nothing, and live my life and travel a lot. I feel acting is not a job. I still feel I do nothing in my life,' he said in the interview. Borisov attended Mikhail Shchepkin Higher Theatre School in Moscow where he trained his acting, dancing and martial arts skills before going on to pursue a career as an actor. After starring in several local films, he got his big international break in the 2021 romantic thriller Compartment No.6. The film won the Cannes Grand Prix in 2021 and earned Borisov a European Film Award acting nomination.
