A First For KDN:Passport Booth With Two-hour Renewals At Johor MADANI Carnival

JOHOR BAHRU, May 24 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) has introduced a passport renewal booth for the first time, aimed at making it a breeze for citizens to obtain their identification document on the spot. Its deputy secretary-general, Yusniza Yusuf said that previously, the documentation process for passports, especially when applied for online, could take up to three days. She explained that with the booth set up during the 2025 Johor MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR), the public can renew passports immediately, provided they bring along their expired passports. 'KDN previously only conducted outreach programmes through government-organised events, using mobile buses or setting up booths for the National Registration Department (NRD) for matters related to MyKid, identity cards, birth certificates and death certificates. 'After observing the high demand for document processing at the NRD, we decided to extend our outreach to include the Immigration Department for passport-related matters for the first time,' she said today. She explained that the people of Johor are most fortunate as they do not have to wait long to obtain their passports after renewing them at the booth, which has been open for three days starting yesterday while today should see a frenzied beeline to the KDN booth after proving to be a hit. 'If the response to this renewal service (passport) is positive, we at the Home Affairs Ministry will continue this effort in other programmes, including the upcoming PMR,' she said. At 2025 Johor PMR, Yusniza also mentioned that the KDN is providing reference services related to the publication of the Al-Quran, determining whether they are approved for printing or not. 'The public can also exchange Al-Quran with doubtful or unauthorised printing -- including those without KDN's approval (stamp and hologram sticker) -- for new ones that have been officially permitted by the ministry.
