"Leading In Agriculture Development": PM Modi At Sikkim's 50th Statehood Day
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called Sikkim a pride of the country and said the Centre seeks to make the northeastern state a global tourism destination. "In the coming years, India is poised to emerge as a global sports superpower. The Yuva Shakti of the Northeast and Sikkim will play a pivotal role in realising this dream," he said, as he addressed Sikkim's Golden Jubilee of Statehood celebration in Gangtok via videoconference. "Our dream is that Sikkim should become a Green Model State not only for India but for the entire world," he added, stressing the importance of boosting Sikkim's economy and shaping it into a "wellness state". PM Modi also said that "Sikkim is leading the way in a new wave of agricultural development". "The foundation of a developed India rests on four strong pillars - empowerment of the poor, farmers, women, and youth", he said, as he praised the state's farmers for their significant contribution to India's agricultural advancements. The Prime Minister noted that the famous Dalle Khorsani chilli from Sikkim was exported for the first time in March this year. The chillies are known for their very strong flavour and spice level. In the coming years, the Prime Minister remarked, many more products from Sikkim will be exported globally. He affirmed that the central government is working shoulder to shoulder with the state government to support these efforts. Stating that efforts to connect the capital cities of all northeastern states to the railway network are progressing rapidly, the Prime Minister underlined that the Sevoke-Rangpo rail line will integrate Sikkim into the national rail network. He emphasised that ropeways are being constructed as an alternative in areas where roads cannot be built. In the past decade, India has advanced with new resolutions with a key focus on enhancing healthcare, PM Modi said. He pointed out that over the last 10-11 years, large hospitals have been established in every state. A 500-bed hospital has been dedicated to the people of Sikkim to ensure quality healthcare for even the most underprivileged families. At the event, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone and inaugurated multiple development projects in Sikkim. These projects include a new district hospital worth over Rs 750 crore in Namchi; Passenger Ropeway at Sangachoeling, Pelling in Gyalshing District and the statue of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji at Atal Amrit Udyan at Sangkhola in Gangtok District. Expressing gratitude to PM Modi, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang said, "On the historic occasion of Sikkim's Golden Jubilee of Statehood, we had the honour of unveiling a Rs 50 silver coin and a special commemorative postage stamp in the esteemed virtual presence of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, who joined us today from Bagdogra." He added: "I sincerely thank Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, for his thoughtful gesture in commemorating this milestone with the release of a Rs 50 silver coin and a special postage stamp. These symbols beautifully honour Sikkim's journey of integration, progress, and cultural pride."

Sikkim poised to become global tourism, Green Model hub: PM Modi
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday declared that Sikkim is the pride of India and that the government envisions transforming the state into a global tourism destination and a Green Model State for the world. Addressing the 'Sikkim\@50' event in Gangtok via videoconferencing, due to adverse weather conditions preventing his travel to the venue, Modi said, 'We are advancing the 'Act East' policy with the spirit of 'Act Fast' and Sikkim and the entire Northeast are emerging as a shining chapter in India's progress.' He emphasised the Centre's ambition to make Sikkim an international tourism hub, highlighting the state's potential and natural assets. 'In the coming years, India is poised to emerge as a global sports superpower. The Yuva Shakti of the Northeast and Sikkim will play a pivotal role in realising this dream,' he said. He further reiterated, 'Our vision is for Sikkim to become a Green Model State not just for India but for the entire world.' Reflecting on Sikkim's journey over the past five decades, Modi said, 'Fifty years ago, Sikkim charted a democratic future for itself. The people of Sikkim not only connected with India's geography but also with its soul.' He noted that the nation has witnessed the fruits of this trust in the state's remarkable development. 'Sikkim is the pride of the nation,' he reaffirmed, adding that the state has become a model of progress in harmony with nature. Highlighting its economic success, he said, 'Sikkim is among the states with the highest per capita income in the country. These achievements are a testament to the capabilities of the people of Sikkim.' The Prime Minister also underlined the importance of inclusive development, saying that since 2014, the government has worked with the principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, development for all, with everyone's support. He added, 'A developed India requires balanced growth, ensuring that no region is left behind while others forge ahead.' He remarked that every region in India has unique strengths and the government has placed the Northeast at the centre of development over the past decade. 'Sikkim, along with the entire Northeast, is becoming a shining chapter in India's development story,' Modi said. 'Where once the distance from Delhi posed a barrier to progress, the same region is now opening new doors of opportunity.' He stressed that the key driver behind this transformation has been improved connectivity, which the people of Sikkim have directly experienced.

"Inspired me to join armed forces, break the taboos": NCC cadet on Op Sindoor
New Delhi [India], May 28 (ANI): NCC Senior Under Officer Nadira Khan on Wednesday shared her experience of participating in Operation Sindoor, a national-level exercise that simulated real-life scenarios. The cadets also conducted mock drills, showcasing their skills and preparedness. She was participating in national student pledge ceremony, 'Yuva Shakti, Bharat Ki Shakti,' held at Jamia Hamdard University, where NCC cadets participated in various activities to promote national unity and patriotism. Nadira Khan expressed her inspiration to join the armed forces, breaking taboos and stereotypes. 'Operation Sindoor meant a lot to us. We also conducted mock drills and organised a Tiranga Yatra rally near the National War Memorial... It has inspired me to join the armed forces, to break the taboos and stereotypes...,' said Nadira Khan. A youth-pledge event titled 'Yuva Shakti, Bharat Ki Shakti National Student Pledge' programme was held in five cities, including Delhi, Srinagar, Bengaluru, Itanagar and Ahmedabad on Wednesday led by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) where students took pledge for an united India. In Itanagar it was held at the Himalayan University. In Delhi the event was held at Jamia Hamdard University. Nadira Khan further said that lot of activities are carried out at the NCC like National Integration camps where interaction is held with people from other states and learn about their culture. Pro-Chancellor of Chandigarh University, Professor Himani Sood, said, 'I took a pledge with all the students of Jamia Hamdard and the women who stood behind Operation Sindoor like a rock, stood behind the vision of PM Narendra Modi of keeping India together, and stood behind the nation's valour. This is a lesson for our neighbour that India is united. There is no divide in the name of religion, colour, or caste.' 'Yuva Shakti, Bharat Ki Shakti National Student Pledge' program was also held at at the University of Kashmir. A student, Ayesha in Srinagar said, 'We took a pledge for unity here and we are thankful for it. We want our country to progress and we are absolutely against terrorism. A message of unity has been given from here. We want the world to know that Kashmir does not stand with terrorism.' Another student from Srinagar Shaqoor said that he really liked this program. 'We always want tourism and not terrorism in the country. We want to promote brotherhood and ensure that the country always do not want any conflict in the country.,' he added. Earlier Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched the 'Tiranga Yatra' on May 13 to May 23. The yatra aimed to honour the valour of Indian soldiers and inform citizens about Operation Sindoor's recent success. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 civilians dead. As part of the operation, Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, eliminating over 100 terrorists linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
