Michel-Ange Balikwisha to Celtic transfer hits snag as 'surprising' £2.6m man linked and old flame stays put

Brendan Rodgers is keen to ramp up his transfer business over the coming weeks Celtic have been linked with a move for Yverdon Sport midfielder Moussa Baradji - but face serious competition for his signature. The French-Malian joined the Swiss Super League club last summer and is now hot property after catching the eye with four goals and three assists in his debut season. ‌ Versatile Baradji - who operates as a central midfielder but can also play as a right winger - has attracted interest from the likes of Sunderland, Fiorentina, Parma AC, Torino FC and FC Basel. ‌ And report that Celts have also registered an interest in the 24-year-old over the summer. Baradji is out of contract in 2026 and relegated Yverdon Sport stand to make a big profit on the £215,000 they paid Serie C side Legnago Salus last year. It's claimed that the utility man would command a fee of around £2.6million, which is well within Celtic's budget. Sunderland are believed to have made contact with Baradji's representatives as the Premier League new boys attempt to steal a march. In an interview with Swiss outlet Blick back in March, Baradji's former boss Paolo Tramezzani - who is now in charge of AEL Limassol - raved: "Moussa is a very surprising player, who can play in all midfield positions, who has great stamina. He has rare qualities." Brendan Rodgers is keen on ramping up the club's transfer business having already landed Kieran Tierney, Ross Doohan and academy prospect Isaac English this summer. ‌ A £1.3m deal has been struck with FC Nordsjælland for Sweden international Benjamin Nygren, while Fulham hotshot Callum Osmand is poised to be unveiled any day now. As Nicolas Kuhn closes in on a move to Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig, a new winger is top of the Parkhead club's wishlist. ‌ Sarpsborg prodigy Sondre Ørjasæter is a key target but the Double-winners would have to shell out around £11m to land the 21-year-old. Ørjasæter - who was the subject of a Celtic bid in January - recently revealed that he feels "ready to take the next step" in his career. Dutch champions PSV are also keen on the left-sided Norwegian wide man and Celts would potentially have to shatter their transfer record to land him. ‌ Belgian attacker Michel-Ange Balikwisha is also in Rodgers' thoughts, but talks over a deal for the long-term target are said to have stalled. The 24-year-old has been on the Hoops' radar since last season but the four-in-a-row champs are reluctant to meet Royal Antwerp's asking price of £5.1m due to his recent injury record. Balikwisha - who has 12 months to run on his current contract - made just 17 appearances last term. ‌ Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri offered an update today, writing on X: "Celtic FC has not forgotten Michel-Ange Balikwisha! Several internal factors on the part of the Scottish club's management have slowed down the deal, but both the Green and Whites and the player are keen to see it go through. Royal Antwerp FC is asking for €6 million to reach an agreement." Elsewhere, Carl Starfelt insists he's committed to Celta Vigo despite interest from Cesc Fabregas' Como. The former Celtic Treble-winner has become a mainstay with Vigo since joining the La Liga club two years ago. Now 30, he's been linked with a switch to Italy but addressing his future in an interview with SVT Sport, the Swede said: "I feel very comfortable. Especially this year, everything has felt great. I want to stay and be there when the team plays in Europe. I have communicated to the club that this is my intention."
