Coopers Rock stargazing cabins win architecture award ahead of opening

BRUCETON MILLS, (WBOY) — The stargazing cabins at Coopers Rock State Forest are already award-winning, and they aren't even open yet. The A-frame cabins are the first designated stargazing cabins in West Virginia and are located between the famous Coopers Rock Overlook and Ravens Rock. The cabin design by ZMM Architects and Engineers was given with 2025 AIA Honor Awards from the West Virginia Chapter for Excellence in Architecture and Excellence in Craftsmanship. Each cabin has floor-to-ceiling windows, retractable skylights and high-powered telescopes for immersive stargazing. The cabins are also placed in a strategic location to minimize light pollution. ZMM has the completion date listed as 2025. 'Thank you for your continued patience and support, and we look forward to welcoming you to the Coopers Rock cabins as soon as possible,' the West Virginia State Parks website says. You can see more photos of the cabins on ZMM's website.
