Heartless killer licked bloody death knife, says court witness

Nthethelo Zulu (36) was handed a life sentence plus a further 15 years for robbing and fatally stabbing Siphelele Ndlovu (38) in July 2020. Ulundi Regional Court heard how Zulu and two friends left a Mboshongweni shebeen on the night of the killing. Intoxicated, the trio was walking home when they came across the victim listening to music on his cellphone while carrying his personal belongings in a plastic bag. Zulu informed his friends that he intended to rob the man – a comment to which they did not respond, according to their testimony. The badly decomposed body of a teenage girl (16), who went missing recently, was found near her homestead on Thursday. Khethokuhle Ayanda Ncube of the Mnqadi area in KwaMthethwa was last seen going to the local shop to buy airtime for her mother. She never returned. Worried, the Mthiyane family reported her missing to the police. Roadwork delays on the pothole-riddled R34 outside Empangeni have left motorists fuming and concerned for their safety. Three weeks ago, the contractor removed the tar along the Bargain Shed to Empangeni Milling stretch of road, however, the section has been left unworked on for almost two weeks. Heavy traffic flow along the road poses huge frustration for motorists. 'They've carved it up, but nothing is happening. Are the guys still on contract? Is there money left?' questioned one motorist. WATCH: Union marchers hand over list of grievances to City of uMhlathuze A peaceful protest by hundreds of South African Municipal Workers' Union (SAMWU) members went off without any incidents today (Tuesday) when the mass group held a peaceful march from the ZCBF grounds to the City of uMhlathuze offices in Richards Bay. This follows Samwu's recent warning that they would have no choice but to embark on industrial action to defend members' rights, dignity and safety if their concerns were not attended to. ALSO READ: Union threatens industrial action in City of uMhlathuze The march culminated in the handing over of a memorandum of grievances, which was received by uMhlathuze COO Thembeka Khumalo. The municipality was given until Friday at 4pm to respond. 3 KZN municipalities to begin system training for better service delivery

3 KZN municipalities to begin system training for better service delivery Three KZN municipalities — uMfolozi, Ulundi and Nkandla — will travel to Pietermaritzburg this Thursday to begin training on the Cash Management System (CMS), a move aimed at enhancing effective service delivery. The training forms part of a broader initiative by KZN Treasury to improve financial efficiency and curb overspending and wasteful expenditure at local government level. ALSO READ: KZN municipalities lauded for clean audits According to Finance MEC Francois Rodgers, the CMS will be rolled out in seven municipalities between now and December. The system is designed to: • Improve service delivery • Ensure timely payments to service providers • Reduce municipal budget deficits 'This CMS roll-out will help strengthen financial accountability at local government level,' said Rodgers. The high-level workshop will bring together mayors, municipal managers, chief financial officers and project champions, who are expected to sign a formal acknowledgement of understanding and commitment pledge.
