3 KZN municipalities to begin system training for better service delivery Three KZN municipalities — uMfolozi, Ulundi and Nkandla — will travel to Pietermaritzburg this Thursday to begin training on the Cash Management System (CMS), a move aimed at enhancing effective service delivery. The training forms part of a broader initiative by KZN Treasury to improve financial efficiency and curb overspending and wasteful expenditure at local government level. Turf wars loom in KwaMbonambi
Infighting among high school pupils in KwaMbonambi has the potential to escalate into turf wars if not promptly addressed by the relevant authorities. This warning was issued by Ward 16 Councillor Bhekumuzi Sithole, who said this longstanding infighting has recently intensified, with learners resorting to carrying dangerous weapons, including knives and broken bottles. ALSO READ: Deadly after school fight in eShowe According to Sithole, an underlying sinister influence of drugs appears to be involved in the situation. 'People are using these learners. We have held numerous meetings with parents and there are no tangible reasons for what it is that is being fought over,' said Sithole. He further added that there was a pressing need to involve social workers in addressing the violent acts among the learners. Among the schools involved in these conflicts are Ntongande High School in Ward 16, Mkhayideni Technical High School in Ward 14 of uMfolozi, and Siphumelele High School in Ward 1 of the City of uMhlathuze. 'We need an urgent meeting between traditional leaders and the municipality; police do assist at some point, however, there are also reports that these learners have a traditional healer whom they are consulting, which contributes to their violent behaviour towards one another,' added Sithole. WATCH: CIT driver shakes off pursuers by racing through Durban mall
WATCH: CIT driver shakes off pursuers by racing through Durban mall A suspected cash-in-transit (CIT) heist was foiled on Wednesday by the quick thinking of a cash van driver. The incident, which occurred in uMlazi, was caught on CCTV cameras, and shared on Facebook by Suburban Control Centre and Arrive Alive. The footage shows a CIT vehicle entering a shopping mall parking lot, closely pursued by a white bakkie. ALSO READ: WATCH: Cash-in-transit heist closes N2 near Mtubatuba The cash van can then be seen making a right turn. On reaching the place where the cash van turned, the bakkie is seen stopping, turning round and driving away from the area. The footage then switches to inside the shopping mall. Shoppers are seen fleeing from something, towards the CCTV camera. The CIT van is then seen driving through the pedestrian precinct, seemingly the only way to avert an attack. This foiled heist comes amid a spate of CIT robberies across KZN, the most recent 'successful' attack occurring on the R618 near Mtubatuba on Tuesday evening.
