PVL On Tour. August 5, 2025. Chinnie Arroyo of the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans. (Photo: PVL) ZUS Coffee shook off a slow start and held off Choco Mucho to eke out a 22-25, 20-25, 25-16, 25-17, 15-10 win in the knockout round of the 2025 PVL On Tour on Tuesday at the Philsports Arena. The Thunderbelles turned to Chinnie Arroyo the entire game and veteran Jovelyn Gonzaga in the clutch as they clinched the last quarterfinals ticket, setting up a playoffs duel with PLDT. Arroyo tallied a team-high 21 points while also getting ample help as Gonzaga chipped in 16 markers. AC Miner chimed in with 14 points as Kate Santiago and Fiola Ceballos each chipped in 10 markers. Down two sets and on the brink of elimination, ZUS Coffee dug deep in Set 3 with Santiago and Ceballos providing some energy as the latter sent them to a 16-10 cushion. Arroyo and rookie middle blocker Miner put together the next points to extend their life to a fourth set. Choco Mucho kept it close in the fourth with Isa Molde even tying it at 11-all off a swipe attack, but Arroyo and a number of attack errors from the side of the Flying Titans eventually allowed ZUS to force a fifth set. The Thunderbelles left no room for errors in the deciding frame as they opened the period with a pivotal 4-1 start following a denial by Gonzaga on Molde. Another block, this time from Maika Ortiz, and a Gonzaga opposite kill sent the wards of head coach Jerry Yee to a huge 11-6 cushion. Ceballos then unleashed back-to-back points following a hammer from the left side and a rejection against Jen Villegas' running attempt, bringing her side to a 13-7 lead. Choco Mucho could not shatter the wall of ZUS as Miner put the roof on Molde to clinch the match point before Gonzaga unloaded a down-the-line hit that sealed it for the youthful club. The loss spoiled the 27-point outing from Molde, who also had 14 receptions in the five-set thriller. —JKC, GMA Integrated News

PVL: Cloanne Mondoñedo, ZUS Coffee deny Chery Tiggo outright QF ticket
Cloanne Mondoñedo anchored ZUS Coffee's 19-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-19, 15-6 win to deny Chery Tiggo an outright quarterfinal ticket in the 2025 PVL On Tour on Tuesday at the Candon City Arena. The 24-year-old playmaker tallied 36 excellent sets to go with two points as the Thunderbelles ended the preliminary round with a 3-2 card while the Crossovers fell to an identical card. ZUS' win also allowed Creamline (3-2) to book an automatic quarterfinal berth due to the Cool Smashers holding superior points. "We are happy na gano'n na, na resilient pero it also shows consistency so at least alam namin kung ano 'yung kailangan naming i-work on," ZUS head coach Jerry Yee said. "Marami pa [ang kailangang ayusin]. Ita-try pa natin na ipin-point 'yung mga gano'n pero at least we got the win and ayun na nga, lumalaban 'yung team kahit 'yung second unit." Chery Tiggo had an early 13-12 lead in the fourth set with Cess Robles attacking from the opposite side. But ZUS unleashed a telling 6-0 rampage highlighted by two blocks that allowed them to take an 18-13 cushion. That flipped the script for the rest of the set with rookie middle blocker AC Miner providing the spark on her decisive running kills, one of which sent the Thunderbelles to set point, 24-19. An attack error from Chery Tiggo enabled ZUS to force a decider. Chinnie Arroyo came alive in the final frame, unloading back-to-back hits for a 5-1 lead before a pair of attack errors from Chery Tiggo sent the other camp to a crucial 9-3 advantage. Chery Tiggo tried to rally behind Aby Maraño and Robles, whose hammer from the left side cut the deficit to five, 6-11. But ZUS responded with a 4-0 closing run ended by a combination play from Jovelyn Gonzaga off a perfect setup from Mondoñedo. Miner shone with 19 points anchored on 15 attacks and four blocks while Kate Santiago and Arroyo chipped in 13 and 11 markers with the former also posting 12 digs. —JMB, GMA Integrated News

PVL: Erika Santos' 30-point explosion carries Cignal to QF; Creamline halts Chery Tiggo
Erika Santos powered Cignal to a hard-earned rebound victory with an explosive outing to lead her team past a spirited ZUS Coffee squad, 25-22, 25-17, 21-25, 25-16, in the PVL On Tour on Sunday at the City of Passi Arena The power-hitting opposite spiker erupted for a career-high 30 points to go with eight digs as the HD Spikers improved to 4-1 and clinched a quarterfinals spot in the preseason showcase. The Thunderbelles, who were just coming off a five-set stunner over perennial champion Creamline a day before, fell to an even 2-2 slate even after another huge outing from Chinnie Arroyo. Arroyo, whose 23-point performance against the Cool Smashers paved the way for ZUS Coffee's breakthrough win against Creamline, dropped 20 points this time around. "Hindi lang ako nakukuntento sa kung ano pa 'yung kaya kong gawin. Gusto ko pang matuto and malaman 'yung areas for correction," Santos said. "Ito 'yung first time ko na umabot ng 20 pataas. Bumalik lang kami, in-acknowledge namin 'yung nangyari, 'yung mga pagkakamali, 'yung mga lapses. Hindi lang kami nag-stop." [I'm just not content. I want to learn and I want to know the areas for correction... This is my first time to reach 20 and above. We just came back, we acknowledged what happened, what went wrong, the lapses. We just didn't stop.] Creamline, meanwhile, also learned a lot from that loss as the multi-titled squad carved out a 25-21, 19-25, 25-16, 25-18 win against erstwhile unbeaten Chery Tiggo. Alyssa Valdez unleashed a vintage performance with her 19 points anchored on 16 attacks and three aces while other veterans Jeanette Panaga and Michele Gumabao chipped in 17 markers apiece as they snapped a rare two-game losing streak to improve to 3-2 in Pool B. The Crossovers, who emerged victorious in their last three games including a four-set upset against fellow unbeaten Cignal oon Saturday, fell to 3-1 slate. "Syempre 'yung yesterday hindi maganda 'yung pagkatalo namin. Medyo masikip 'yung standing so nanalo kami ngayon," Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses said. [Of course, with yesterday, it wasn't good that we lost. The standings are tight so we got the win today.] —JMB, GMA Integrated News

Thumbs up to ZUS Coffee cat ad: it is screen-licking good
ADVERTISEMENTS would be so much more effective if they were not annoying. Billboards and banner ads dominate the roadside. And even when we turn to our phones, there are the pop ups and every other manner of digital ads vying for our attention. But imagine watching an ad that was so compelling that we actually wanted to know more about it, and to remember it long after we had walked away. Or perhaps the ad puts a smile on our faces. Now that is the gold standard of advertising. Speaking of good advertising, a recent ad from ZUS Coffee had netizens in stitches. To promote their new Meowtcha drink series, a chubby cat could be seen licking the screen. The perfect ads doesnt exi- — No Context Cats (@nocontextscats) July 14, 2025 It was not only on the digital banner on the road as seen in this video, but on the screen of the ZUS Coffee branch too. Some netizens said it was also on the app where the cat could be seen licking the mobile screen of the user. Definitely contagious stuff. According to netizen @JustaCat05 who saw the video, the location appears to be IOI Puchong Mall. Another netizen cautioned that the banner ads might become a road hazard. But when we think about it, there are numerous other ads out there that have redefined the marketing industry, either for being hilarious, witty or downright emotional. Take for example an interesting Japanese ad on roof tiles. Few would have thought it was an ad on roof tiles until the plot twist at the end, which is brilliant since it keeps the viewers watching till the end. Then there was another Thailand ad on fans that will split your sides. The list goes on. As consumers, it is refreshing to find an ad that entertains among the many which do nothing more than harp about their benefits. And looking at that cat licking so thirstily at the screen, we sure are compelled to try out the Meowtcha. —July 16, 2025 Main image: @nocontextscats (X)

ZUS Coffee brews five-set escape vs. Capital1 for first PVL On Tour win
ZUS Coffee pulled away late to deny Capital1 its breakthrough, pulling off a 20-25, 26-24, 23-25, 25-18, 15-11 victory in the 2025 PVL On Tour on Sunday at the Ynares Center Montalban. The Thunderbelles did what it fell short of yesterday when they absorbed a five-set loss to Akari to open their campaign in the preseason tournament. Veteran opposite spiker Jovelyn Gonzaga provided the finishing kick, converting a kill from the right side that fueled a 4-1 rampage that allowed ZUS Coffee to take the match point at 14-10. Sydney Niegos tried to rally Capital1 by unleashing a strong hammer from the opposite side, but Gonzaga punished the single block of Shola Alvarez to unleash the final blow and tow the Thunderbelles to the win column. —JKC, GMA Integrated News
