She's an experienced pro with years of hands-on experience in the field, but the mental healthcare system's failings haven't yet made her jaded. 'Instead,' the official character description reads, 'she is passionate about destigmatizing long-term inpatient treatment and finding a solution to give her patients the best future possible. As such, 'She becomes a worth adversary for Dr. Wolf, and the two will go toe-to-toe this season.' The role will serve as a reunion for Young and Teddy Sears, who plays Brilliant Minds' Dr. Josh Nichols: The pair played Olivia and John Walton in the 2022 TV movie A Waltons Thanksgiving. In addition to playing Scandal's Mellie Grant, Young's TV credits include: The Other Black Girl, Promised Land, Prodigal Son, Dolly Parton's Heartstrings, Whiskey Cavalier, Criminal Minds, Scrubs, C.S.I.: Miami and Dirty Sexy Money. Canceled or Renewed? Fate of 3 NBC TV Shows Still in Limbo
With most of its 2025–26 lineup set, NBC has yet to make a call on three key scripted shows—Brilliant Minds, The Hunting Party, and Grosse Pointe Garden Society. Each sits in a different corner of the ratings spectrum, but only one looks like a lock to return. At the top of this uncertain trio is Brilliant Minds, the medical drama starring Zachary Quinto as neurologist Oliver Wolf. It's delivered mid-tier ratings in its debut season and remains a rare non-procedural in NBC's current lineup, according to TV Guide. With One Chicago and Law & Order dominating the network's schedule, NBC may want to diversify its primetime offerings, and Brilliant Minds is the kind of prestige, character-driven drama that fills that gap. While no renewal has been confirmed, the show appears to be in strong contention for a second shift. The Hunting Party, headlined by Manifest alum Melissa Roxburgh, is a trickier case. It sits just outside NBC's top 10 scripted shows and hasn't generated much buzz beyond its initial launch. While it's not a ratings disaster, it hasn't built the momentum many expected. Still, depending on the network's broader strategy, it may survive on the strength of its lead-in or cast name recognition—though it's squarely on the bubble. Bringing up the rear is Grosse Pointe Garden Society, the quirky murder mystery that quickly went from a midseason curiosity to Friday night fodder. Despite its offbeat premise, the show has the dubious distinction of being NBC's lowest-rated scripted series by a wide margin. Its relocation to a low-traffic timeslot isn't a great sign, and unless a streaming partnership or fan campaign emerges, it's almost certainly headed for cancellation. NBC is expected to announce its final decisions in the coming weeks, but for these three shows, the waiting game isn't over yet.
