Tourists and locals evacuated due to Spanish wildfire
THOUSANDS of tourists and locals have been evacuated from a popular tourist resort spot in Spain. More than 2000 people have been moved to safety from hotels and beaches in Tarifa in southern Spain due to fires in nearby fields and forests, The Scottish Sun reports. It's understood people were evacuated at around 2.20pm yesterday (August 11) afternoon. READ NEXT: Popular eatery announces opening date for new spot near Glasgow Crowds who had gathered on the beach were moved along the shore to the village of Zahara de los Atunes. It comes less than a week after another fire in nearby La Pena which also saw people evacuated.

In the videos, dozens of beachgoers were seen relaxing on the beach against a backdrop filled with thick plumes of smoke. More than 2,000 people, including beachgoers, resort guests and residents, were evacuated from Tarifa as the fire continued to spread, local officials said on Tuesday (August 12). The fire is believed to have started on Monday morning in the eucalyptus and pine forests of the Sierra de la Plata mountains, according to official reports.
