‘I am sorry to do this,' Johnstown man accused of robbing store
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) — A Johnstown man is facing charges after he allegedly robbed a store by telling the clerk that 'if she cooperated then he wouldn't hurt her.' Eli Zasadni, 48, is being charged after he allegedly robbed a store on Scalp Avenue by brandishing a knife at a clerk, according to a criminal complaint. On Feb. 1, officers from the Richland Township Police Department were contacted by the store who said that a white male had stolen money from them. Altoona man accused of trying to shoot wife, told officers 'then shoot me' According to the affidavit, the clerk reported that the robber was around 6'1,' was wearing all black, and was seen traveling east on foot. They also reported that not much of his face was visible. The clerk added that the male said, 'I am sorry to do this,' before he pulled a knife on her and told her to give her all the money she had. Officers obtained video footage of the incident. Two days after the incident a woman called the police department and said that she believed that Zasadni was the one who committed the robbery. She stated that they had gotten into a fight and he returned the next day with $1,700, stating that he had gotten paid for a job. The woman told officers that she saw the Facebook post about the robbery suspect and recognized Zasadni as the man. When she questioned him, he also allegedly admitted to the theft. Police noted in the complaint that they were able to get photos of Zasadni and found 'his physical characteristics closely resembled that of the suspect.' Zasadni is facing felony charges of robbery threat of serious injury, receiving stolen property and theft by unlawful taking and misdemeanor charges of possession of a weapon and simple assault. He's in the Cambria County Prison with bail set at 10% of $100,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 19. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Johnstown man charged in armed robbery of Richland Township business
RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WTAJ) — A Johnstown man is facing multiple charges after allegedly robbing a skills game business at knifepoint, apologizing to the clerk before stealing more than $12,000. According to our media partners The Tribune-Democrat, Richland Township police said Eli Jason Zasadni, 48, entered 3C Amusements on Scalp Avenue around 8:45 p.m. on Feb. 1, wearing black clothing and a mask. According to a criminal complaint, he pulled out a folding knife, told the clerk, 'I am sorry to do this,' and demanded money. The clerk complied, placing the cash in two zippered money bags, police said. Zasadni allegedly fled on foot. Authorities used surveillance footage to identify him after someone recognized a photo posted on Facebook and alerted police. State police later found Zasadni at a Somerset hotel, where he initially denied involvement but later admitted to the crime, according to the affidavit. Police: Man tells clerk 'sorry' before pulling knife, robbing Richland business
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – A Johnstown-area man walked into a skills game business, pulled out a knife and told the clerk, "I am sorry to do this," before robbing the place of $12,936, police allege. Richland Township police charged Eli Jason Zasadni, 48, of the 200 block of Leventry Road, with robbery, receiving stolen property, theft, possessing instruments of crime and simple assault. Zasadni allegedly walked into 3C Amusements at 1234 Scalp Ave., Richland Township, at 8:45 p.m. Feb. 1, pulled out a knife and demanded money, according to a complaint affidavit. Zasadni was wearing black clothing and a black mask when he allegedly approached the clerk, apologized and pulled out a folding knife, according to police. He allegedly told the clerk she would not be hurt if she cooperated, the affidavit said. The clerk bagged the money and Zasadni allegedly fled on foot with a black zippered money bag and a frosted zippered money bag with "Extra Extra" written on the side, police said. Police obtained video footage. Someone allegedly recognized the photo posted on Facebook and called the police. State police allegedly found Zasadni at a hotel in Somerset. Zasadni allegedly denied involvement, but later admitted to being the robber, the affidavit said. Zasadni was arraigned Saturday by on-call District Judge Mary Ann Zanghi, of Vinco, and sent to Cambria County Prison in Ebensburg after failing to post 10% of $100,000 bond.
