The logo — revealed at the conclusion of the 5th World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) Conference in Nairobi, Kenya — celebrates a remarkable regional victory, with the winning design created by Husam Mohammad Elfara, a Deaf designer from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Scheduled for 19 to 23 September 2027, the Congress will bring over 2,000 participants from all over the world to Abu Dhabi to celebrate the richness of national sign languages, foster cross-border collaborations, and empower Deaf communities worldwide. Organized by the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination (ZHO) in partnership with the UAE Deaf Association, this edition will be held under the theme 'Sign Languages: Always and Everywhere,' emphasizing the universal role of sign language in connecting communities and advancing equality. The logo emerged from a global design competition that attracted 41 entries from 14 countries, including strong participation from the Middle East — Palestine (11), UAE (8), Jordan (6), Sudan (3), Bahrain (2), Lebanon (2), and Yemen (2) — alongside submissions from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Morocco, India, Iran, the USA, and Pakistan. After rigorous review, 19 designs were shortlisted, underscoring the dynamic creativity and global engagement of Deaf communities worldwide. The winning design by Husam Mohammad Elfara reflects the growing influence and creative talent of the region's Deaf communities in shaping the visual identity of this historic Congress. The logo blends universal Deaf culture with Emirati heritage. At its center is a stylized open hand — an international emblem of sign language and Deaf identity — symbolizing openness, communication, and inclusion. Encircling the hand is a circular motif inspired by traditional Emirati patterns, representing unity, cultural pride, and global connection. Presented bilingually in Arabic and English, the design underscores the Congress's commitment to accessibility and inclusivity while honoring the UAE's cultural identity as host nation. UAE To Launch Unified Card For People Of Determination
The Ministry of Family, in partnership with the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, has launched a joint initiative to develop an integrated, innovative service system that supports the needs and aspirations of people of determination. The initiative aligns with the UAE's strategic direction to strengthen government cooperation, provide comprehensive services for people of determination, enhance quality of life, and promote social inclusion. A key feature of the initiative is the introduction of a unified identification card, recognized at both federal and local levels set to roll out by January 2026. This card will streamline access to a wide range of services. As part of the collaboration, both parties will work to harmonize relevant legislation, fully implement the Unified National Disability Classification, and standardize diagnostic and assessment criteria. Abu Dhabi residents will be able to apply for the People of Determination Card through the Zayed Higher Organization. Additionally, coordinated efforts will be made to deliver joint training programs and to exchange expertise and knowledge, with the aim of enhancing the competencies of national professionals working in this field. Both entities are working to enhance the protection of rights for People of Determination, unify responses to inquiries through various communication channels, and ensure the Organization's participation in relevant local and international events. They also commit to conducting benchmarking of systems, working hours, and needs of People of Determination, as well as exchanging best local and global practices. UAE to issue unified local-federal IDs for People of Determination
The Ministry of Family and Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination on Monday announced a joint initiative that aims to integrate local and federal standards of diagnosis and identification for People of Determination. The initiative includes the issuance of a single unified card, recognised at both federal and local levels, to facilitate access to services by January 2026. Top experts empower families in autism care at Abu Dhabi conference

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination (ZHO), the conference kicked off on Saturday and runs until April 22 at the Abu Dhabi Energy with World Autism Month, the event is jointly organised by the ZHO, ADNOC, Lotus Holistic Center – Abu Dhabi, and Fatima College of Health Sciences. It builds on the UAE's success in autism care by offering a global platform where research and best practices can be an interview with Aletihad, Prof. Afaf El-Ansary, Member of Autism Research and Treatment Center, King Saud University, highlighted the shift in autism research: 'There is a shift toward understanding autism as treatable. But we stress that treatments must be based on science. This conference supports evidence-based treatments — nothing built on illusions.'She drew the attention to how making science understandable for families can lead to early action and better outcomes.'Parents do not just learn — they practise, especially in behavioural therapy,' said El-Ansary, who is also a consultant of the Autism Centre at Lotus Holistic Medical Centre in Abu Dhabi, and Chair of the Conference's Scientific Helali, Founder and Chairperson of the Egyptian Advance Society for Persons with Autism, discussed how the new approach to autism goes beyond workshops.'Neurodiversity applies to various challenges, such as reading and math difficulties.
