Omani jiu-jitsu duo wins gold, silver medals in UAE
Muscat – Omani brothers Abdullah and Mohammed al Farsi added to their growing list of international achievements by securing two medals in the third round of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Abu Dhabi, held from May 2 to 4. Competing in the professional categories, Mohammed won gold in the purple belt division, while Abdullah claimed silver in the black belt division. The latest victories bring their combined medal count to 198 – 147 for Abdullah and 51 for Mohammed. Speaking to Muscat Daily, Abdullah said, 'These victories are not just medals; they are strong steps towards putting Oman firmly on the global jiu-jitsu map and strengthening our standing in international martial arts competitions.' He noted that the championship had broader significance beyond the sport. 'The tournament reflects the values of social cohesion, instils a sporting culture in society, and contributes to building strong generations grounded in self-confidence, belonging, and responsibility.' Abdullah described the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship as 'a well-structured tournament with a competitive ranking system that supports the development of athletes.' Acknowledging the tough competition, he added, 'We were well-prepared. Despite the high level of competition, we overcame it with patience and willpower.' He said such results have wider national impact. 'These successes inspire young athletes, boost national confidence, and encourage more players to pursue international careers. They also enhance the reputation of Omani jiu-jitsu schools.' The event attracted strong attendance from families and fans, underlining its status as a key sporting and cultural platform. 'We will continue to promote this sport among youth and society, and remain committed to participating in international championships to raise the sultanate's flag high,' Abdullah said.

Competitions for U12 and kids categories were held on the final day which saw Baniyas Jiu-Jitsu Club claiming the top spot in the medal standings, with Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club securing second place and Al Jazira Jiu-Jitsu Club finishing third. The final day saw strong support from families and jiu-jitsu fans, who gathered to cheer on the participants. Their presence added to the event's energetic atmosphere and strengthened community ties, further establishing the championship as a prominent platform for social and cultural engagement. The competitions were attended, and the winners crowned, by a host of dignitaries, including H.E. Abdulmunem Alsayed Mohammed Alhashmi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, President of the Ju-Jitsu Asian Union, and Senior Vice President of the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation; H.E. Zayed Dorazahi of UAEJJ ARENA, who won gold in the Kids Boys /White / 24kg division, said, 'I'm very happy to win the gold medal. I trained hard with my coach and teammates and put in a lot of effort to prepare. I started practising jiu-jitsu four years ago with my brother Khalid and sister Maya. I thank my family for always encouraging me, and I hope to compete in more tournaments and win more medals.' The championship continues its successful run, with the fourth round scheduled for June, amid growing interest in a sport that has become a key component of the local sporting landscape.
