Zayed bin Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan attends graduation of Advanced Tactical Raids course for female officers
18 July 2025 18:58 DUBAI (ALETIHAD) Colonel Staff Pilot Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Director of the Special Patrols Department and Chairman of the Security Patrols Development Committee at Abu Dhabi Police, attended the graduation ceremony of the Advanced Tactical Raids Course for female officers. The course was organised by the VIP Security and Protection Department at the General Department of Protective Security and Emergency at Dubai Police, and took place at the training city in Al ceremony was attended by Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police; Brigadier Musabbah Saeed Al Ghafli, Director of the General Department of Protective Security and Emergency; Colonel Hisham Nasser Al Suwaidi, Acting Deputy Director of the General Department of Emergency Affairs; participating trainees and trainers; as well as a number of Zayed bin Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan congratulated the graduates, reaffirming the commitment of the country's police forces to training and empowering female personnel and enhancing their capabilities in both academic and field operations. He emphasised the importance of specialised tactical training to support their roles and responsibilities and highlighted the value of educational sessions that develop their ability to handle emergencies and engage with the public; ultimately projecting a positive image that reflects the world-class standard of the UAE's law enforcement further praised the significant contributions of Emirati women to the nation's development across various sectors, including policing and the military. He commended the graduates for their advanced training performance, their effective response to diverse scenarios, and their commitment to mastering weapons handling, ammunition use, raid tactics, and operational drills. Brigadier Musabbah Saeed Al Ghafli explained that the course was designed to equip participants with advanced tactical techniques used in different scenarios and making decisions under pressure.

Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed witnesses reopening of Al Maqta Museum after its rehabilitation
24 Apr 2025 22:02 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, has witnessed the reopening of the Al Maqta Museum, which has been rehabilitated through a joint initiative by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and Abu Dhabi Police to further preserve the cultural heritage of the Highness was briefed on the key stages of the restoration and rehabilitation and toured the museum's sections and facilities. His Highness also viewed historical exhibits used by Abu Dhabi Police since its inception, including vintage uniforms and patrol vehicles. During the tour, His Highness praised the huge efforts of the relevant entities to preserve historical landmarks that have become national symbols in showcasing the cultural and heritage legacy of the UAE, and Abu Dhabi in particular. His Highness highlighted the importance of documenting and protecting the national heritage to help current and future generations appreciate its historical and symbolic significance and to instil a strong sense of Emirati identity in the nation's museum is located within Maqta Fort, at the heart of the Maqta Conservation Area, which includes historic buildings and structures that reflect the various stages of Abu Dhabi's urban development. In the 1950s, the museum's current building served as a customs house and police station, playing a key role in monitoring movement between the mainland and Abu Dhabi Island, prior to the construction of Maqta Bridge, the first bridge to connect the island to surrounding areas. The bridge complemented the role of Maqta Tower, the first fort built to guard the waterway crossing. The tower still stands tall today in the middle of Khor Al Maqta, marking the site of the first defensive structure securing the Zayed bin Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Chairman of The Founder's Office at the Presidential Court, underscored that the reopening of the Maqta Museum, following its comprehensive renovation, reflects the vision of the leadership to preserve the nation's cultural heritage and historical landmarks, ensuring they stand as enduring symbols of the wisdom of past generations and the country's deep-rooted human and intellectual Zayed bin Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan added: 'The museum stands as an important cultural landmark, narrating the story of a rich heritage that has shaped this land. The rehabilitation project encompassed the restoration of the building and enhancement of the museum's interpretive content. For the first time, plaster was replaced with a more homogeneous and durable material, closely resembling the original museum has a rich history deeply connected to the protection and development of Abu Dhabi Island. As early as 1761, Sheikh Dhiyab bin Isa Al Nahyan, then Sheikh of the Bani Yas tribe from the inland Liwa Oasis, made frequent visits to Abu Dhabi Island. As the island grew, it was important to strengthen Abu Dhabi's defences. Sheikh Shakhbut bin Dhiyab bin Isa Al Nahyan oversaw the construction of Al Maqta Tower in the late 18th century, to protect the Maqta Crossing between Abu Dhabi Island and the mainland. The tower, which still stands in the middle of the Khor, was conserved by DCT Abu Dhabi in 2022 to address the recurring damage caused by exposure to the marine environment. Until the 1950s, the tower signalled arrival to Abu Dhabi Island for wayfarers guarded the crossing and marked the gateway to the city. A causeway was built in the late 1950s linking the mainland to Abu Dhabi Island, and a police station was constructed on the mainland to monitor traffic on the crossing. This building later became a customs headquarters, operating until the unification of the UAE in 1971, after which goods were no longer required to be checked at the border to Abu Dhabi Island. 14 Apr 2025 19:49 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)In the presence of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Tahnoon bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince Court, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Arabian Horse Society, has honoured French rider Kevin Staut as the winner of the 14th UAE President's Cup Showjumping CSI5*, held from April 10 to 13, 2025 and organised and hosted by Abu Dhabi Equestrian championship was held under the supervision of the International Equestrian Federation and the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation, and was sponsored by Longines, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and a group of companies that provided sponsorship for the 2* category international event welcomed elite international riders competing for more than Dh2.3 million in Zayed bin Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan praised the outstanding organisation of the event and its role in supporting Abu Dhabi's attractiveness as a destination for equestrianism and sport, and praised competitors for their high levels of the CSI2* competition, British rider Georgia Tame claimed first place, followed by Emirati rider Abdullah Mohammed Al Marri in second. Ireland's Shane Breen secured third place. In the CSI5* competition, Ireland's Cian O'Connor was awarded the Silver Cup, with French rider Roger-Yves Bost earning the Bronze Cup. Emiratis Abdullah Mohammed Al Marri and Abdullah Humaid Al Muhairi came in eighth and ninth place respectively.
