Soccer coach charged with sexual offences involving teen player, Edmonton police say
A soccer coach has been charged with multiple sexual offences involving one of her teenage players, Edmonton police say. Vanessa Young, 30, faces one count each of sexual assault, sexual interference, sexual exploitation, luring a child under 18 and luring a child under 16, according to a news release the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) issued Wednesday afternoon. The charges, laid Wednesday, come after EPS were contacted earlier this month about a relationship between Young and a youth soccer player she coached, the release said. The youth, whose gender wasn't identified, was 15 years old when the abuse allegedly started late last year, the release said. The teenager is getting support through the Zebra Child and Youth Advocacy Centre, a local organization that supports children and youth who have experienced abuse. Investigators are worried there may be more complainants, the release said. The EPS urges anyone who may have been victimized to contact them.
