Georgia football closing in on five-star safety recruit
The Georgia Bulldogs are closing in on a five-star recruit. Safety Jireh Edwards listed Georgia among his top six schools, according to Hayes Fawcett. With his commitment date set for July 5, Edwards will choose among Georgia, Alabama, Texas A&M, Florida, Auburn, or Oregon.
Edwards is a five-star recruit in the class of 2026. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound safety plays football for St. Frances Academy in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Georgia previously landed an elite recruit from St. Frances Academy, which is a high school football powerhouse, in four-star linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson (class of 2021).
Edwards participated in the Under Armour All-American Game in Deland, Florida. He played with Georgia Bulldog commits and signees like Elijah Griffin, Juan Gaston, and Zech Fort.
If Edwards commits to Georgia, he will join a talented secondary in 2026. The Bulldogs secured commitments from four-star safeties Zech Fort and Jordan Smith, along with three-star safety Kealan Jones. Edwards is projected to commit to Georgia according to 247Sports.
247Sports, On3, and Rivals have different opinions on where Georgia's recruiting class ranks, but On3's ranking is the highest. On3 ranks Georgia fifth. The Bulldogs have added commitments from Jordan Smith, five-star quarterback Jared Curtis, and four-star wide receiver Ryan Mosley in May.
Edwards is the No. 24 recruit in the 2026 class and the No. 2 safety in the nation.
