Three seriously injured in Lake Forest during early Tuesday morning car crash on Route 41
Police were called to the scene at 1:46 a.m. Tuesday when a silver Mazda 3 was heading northbound on Route 41 at what authorities thought was a high rate of speed when it swerved off the road to the right, leading the vehicle to roll over at least once, according to Lake Forest police.
'The car flipped at least once,' Deputy Police Chief Kevin Zelk added.
A passenger from the car was ejected from the vehicle, and the other two victims had to be removed by the Lake Forest Fire Department, authorities said.
Zelk did not identify the victims, but noted they were all from Lake County.
They were all transported to Libertyville's Advocate Condell Medical Center.
'Nobody is declining, but the injuries were pretty significant,' Zelk said.
A hospital spokeswoman did not comment on their status, citing health privacy laws.
Alcohol and excessive speed were suspected of being involved in the crash, and charges are pending, but not expected to be filed for several weeks.
'We are investigating whether or not the driver was impaired,' Zelk said.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team was called in to assist with the investigation, Zelk added.
Northbound Route 41 was closed to traffic for several hours early Tuesday due to the investigation, Zelk said. The roadway was completely reopened around 8 a.m.
