Mpumalanga cops caught with dagga worth millions to appear in court

Three police officers, caught allegedly transporting dagga worth millions in Mpumalanga, are set to appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate's Court on Thursday, 12 June. The trio, while in full uniform, were on duty and were found driving a marked police vehicle loaded with 107 bags of dagga. Members of Matsulu SAPS received information about the dodgy activity and responded. The accused face charges of corrupt activities and defeating the ends of justice. According to a statement from SAPS additional charges could also be added as the drug related investigation continues. In addition, internal disciplinary actions will also be instituted against the officers. Meanwhile, the two others are facing separate charges of dealing in the drugs. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi commented on the dagga bust and said justice must prevail. 'If any member is found to have been on the other side of the law, regardless of whether they are police officers or any law enforcement agencies, the law will have to take his cause without any fear or favour.' Major General Dr Mkhwanazi also emphasised that there is no one that is above the law. This is not the first incident where an officer was caught doing dodgy dealings. The arrest comes a day after a City of Cape Town Law Enforcement officer was arrested by the Hawks. The 43-year-old officer was arrested on charges of murder, kidnapping, and extortion. The provincial spokesperson for the Hawks, Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, said the kidnapping is alleged to have taken place on May 16 in Kraaifontein. 'The victim was last seen by a friend who reported that the victim went to Bellville to view a vehicle he intended to purchase and never came back. Instead, another friend of the victim received a call from the victim reporting that he had been kidnapped and was being assaulted,' Vukubi said. Truck jacking turns bread delivery into a crime spree in Tweefontein

A routine bread delivery took a criminal turn in Tweefontein when a bakery driver was hijacked and locked in the back of his truck during a truck jacking early Saturday morning, 24 May. Police arrested one suspect after the community helped recover the vehicle and corner the perpetrator. According to police, the truck jacking incident unfolded around 5:40 when the driver stopped at a general dealer to deliver bread. As he stepped out of the vehicle, two men who had been hiding behind the truck confronted him. They ordered the driver into the back of the truck and locked him in with the bread stock. 'The suspects drove around and stopped at a few shops selling and delivering bread,' police confirmed in their statement. The unsuspecting driver remained trapped as the criminals attempted to turn the hijacking into a delivery scheme. The truck eventually stopped on the main road in Gemsbokspruit, near a crèche. One suspect opened the back and ordered the driver out, taking his cell phone, driver's license, and R470 in cash. The suspects abandoned the truck and attempted to flee the scene by boarding a taxi. Thanks to action from community members, one of the suspects was apprehended shortly afterwards, and the stolen truck was recovered. The arrested man is expected to appear at the KwaMhlanga Magistrate's Court on Monday, 26 May. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the residents of Tweefontein for aiding law enforcement. Ex-boyfriend arrested almost three years after nurse's murder

A man has been arrested for the murder of an Mpumalanga nurse almost three years after her death. 'Following an intensive and meticulous investigation, police were able to positively link a suspect, believed to be the victim's ex-boyfriend, to the crime. The suspect, Mandla Sizwe Nkosi, 36, was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the murder,' police spokesperson Sergeant Thulisile Magagula said. Nkosi appeared in the Kanyamazane Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on a charge of murder. The case was postponed to 6 June 2025 for a bail application. Acting provincial police commissioner Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi commended the investigators. Last year, the estranged husband of a Limpopo nurse was arrested in connection with her murder. Mumsy Serishane, 51, was killed near Lebowakgomo Hospital on 23 October. A month later, police arrested 56-year-old Fanie Serishane in connection with the murder. According to eyewitness accounts, Serishane got out of a taxi and was shot moments later. Initially, it was believed that the attack could be linked to an attempted robbery at the spaza shop, which is near the hospital.
