Iraq inks gas swap deal with Turkmenistan
Iraq has signed an agreement with Turkmenistan for the supply of gas that will be swapped with Iranian gas, an official said on Wednesday. Under the agreement, Iran will supply gas to Iraq and will get the same quantity from Turkmenistan, Iraqi Electricity Ministry spokesman Ahmed Mousa said. 'The Ministry has performed the swap deal with Turkmenistan, which will supply gas to areas in North Iran….. Iran in turn will supply Iraq with the same quantity of gas by pipelines,' Mousa told the official news agency. He said Iraq's Electricity Minister Ziad Fadil finalized the swap contract with Turkmenistan during a visit to that country in May. 'The funds for the supplied gas will be transferred directly to Turkmenistan…the deal is now just awaiting approval by Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Sudani,' he said. Iraq's power link with neighbours to be ready end 2026
Iraq will be fully connected to power grids in neighbouring countries by the end of 2026 and this will help bridge a persistent electricity supply gap, the OPEC member's Electricity Minister was reported on Monday as saying. Most of the projects to get electricity from Gulf oil producers, Jordan and Turkey have reached their final stages, Ziad Fadil told the official Iraqi news agency. The Minister said he met electricity officials from the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in Baghdad at the weekend to discuss the connection project. 'I can say that by the end of next year, Iraq will be connected to the power networks in all neighbouring countries through a stable and safe grid,' he said. Officials said in 2024 that the GCC grid would supply Iraq with nearly 1,500 megawatts (MW) while it will also receive 500 MW from Jordan when the final phase of the connect project is completed. Iraq also receives regular power supplies from Turkey and Iran while fresh supplies will come from Saudi Arabia when a connection project is completed. 24 firms bid for Iraq's household solar power projects
Iraq's project to build a household solar power network has attracted 24 companies, the country's Electricity Minister has revealed. The project had first drawn eight local and foreign firms before eight new companies applied last week, Ziad Fadil told the official Iraqi News Agency on Monday. 'We have just pre-qualified 16 new companies…this increased the total number of pre-qualified companies for this project to 24,' Fadil said. The Minister noted that the Central Bank is funding Iraq's first nation-wide household solar power network as part of a renewable energy initiative that also includes converting hundreds of public buildings to solar power operation. Iraqi officials said on Sunday there are plans to build the country's first factory of the production of solar panels.
