EXCLUSIVE: Location and timeline for St Andrews Buck's Bar revealed

A popular St Andrews venue is set to be taken over by a popular bar chain based in the central belt. Buck's Bar will open a new outlet at the current home of Ziggy's on Murray Place later this year. Earlier this month Ziggy's owners announced the rock-themed restaurant will close after 42 years. Buck's Bar similarly sees itself as a 'rock 'n' roll bar' and has five outlets between Edinburgh and Glasgow. It is well known for its fried chicken and huge portions. Michael Bergson, owner of Buck's Bar, told The Courier: 'It's an honour to be taking over from such an established name in St Andrews 'We met with the owners of Ziggy's and they were happy for us to take over, having been to Buck's themselves. 'We are just delighted and really excited to be coming to St Andrews. 'I've always wanted to open in St Andrews. 'I visited there as a youngster and it is full of great bars and restaurants. 'It's in a beautiful part of the world. 'It always seems to be busy as well and is full of friendly people.' Buck's Bar is yet to confirm when the new venue will open. But preparation work is expected to begin next month. The chain announced it would be opening in St Andrews in a Facebook post on Friday. Michael added: 'We will have the builders going in on the first weekend in June. 'It should take 10 to 12 weeks to then get the place turned around. 'We will be bringing all of the dynamics of our existing venues to St Andrews.' Buck's Bar describes itself as a 'Glasgow and Edinburgh rock 'n' roll bar specialising in authentic buttermilk fried chicken, real wings, craft brews and Bourbon'. It offers a takeaway service and live music on Saturday nights. More details about the chain's new St Andrews restaurant are set to be revealed in the near future and it has urged customers to 'watch this space'.

Foxx, Hubbard set for rematch in North Carolina's 5th Congressional District

BOONE, N.C. (WGHP) — Two familiar faces will be running for a congressional district that includes part of the Piedmont Triad. Congresswoman Virginia Foxx (R-District 5) announced that she will seek reelection in 2026 for the seat she has held since 2005. Chuck Hubbard, a Democrat and former journalist living in Greensboro, is returning for a rematch of their 2024 head-to-head when Hubbard lost to Foxx by about 75,000 votes. David Clayton has also joined the race as an Independent candidate. New live music venue Ziggy's coming to downtown Greensboro District 5 covers Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Ashe, Watauga and Guilford Counties, including a significant amount of Greensboro, along with Boone, Sparta, Wilkesboro, Reidsville and Mount Airy. Hubbard calls the incumbent 'dangerous' and says her hold on the freshly drawn district is 'vulnerable' on his website. He describes the district, which includes numerous universities and large swaths of northwestern North Carolina, as 'some of the most varied political terrain in the state.' 'There's no shortage of work to be done as we restore our nation's great traditions of freedom and limited government,' Foxx said in a release. 'Washington bureaucrats and federal agencies have amassed too much power and frittered away taxpayer money in the shadows of officialdom. Those days are over, thanks to the election of President Trump and a conservative majority in Congress. But this work will take more than just two years – which is why I'm thrilled to announce my plans to run for reelection in North Carolina's 5th Congressional District in the 2026 midterm election.' Foxx serves as the chairwoman of the House Rules Committee and previously was the chair of the House Committee on Education in the Workforce. The press release describes her as a 'no-nonsense legislator' who has been endorsed by President Donald Trump. 'Congresswoman Virginia Foxx is doing a tremendous job fighting for the people of North Carolina's 5th Congressional District! 'As Chair of the House Rules Committee, Virginia is working hard to Advance our America First Values, Grow our Economy, Cut Taxes, Secure the Border, Support our Brave Military and Veterans, and Protect and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment. 'Virginia Foxx has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election – SHE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!' Donald Trump On Hubbard's website, he says he'll prioritize 'working families and small businesses, support public education, work to build an economy that works for all of us, and expand access to affordable healthcare. He'll always vote to protect Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security benefits that North Carolinians depend on every day, as well as the benefits that our veterans earned. He'll stand up for equal justice for every community, and he'll always protect a woman's right to choose and access critical reproductive healthcare.' Hubbard has been holding town halls across the district, stating that Foxx has not held a town hall in over a decade. The election is scheduled for Nov. 3, 2026. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
