Scarlett Johansson Got 'Long Email' From Bryce Dallas Howard Welcoming Her To 'Jurassic Family'
With her latest blockbuster franchise, Scarlett Johansson had some support from her predecessor. The 2x Oscar nominee revealed that Jurassic World alum Bryce Dallas Howard sent her a 'whole long email' welcoming her to the franchise after she was cast in Jurassic World Rebirth, now in theaters. Howard played Claire Dearing, the operations manager of the titular dinosaur theme park in Jurassic World (2015), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) and Jurassic World Dominion (2022). Last month, Howard emphasized her excitement for the upcoming seventh installment in the franchise, which began with 1993's Jurassic Park, noting she'd 'be back in a heartbeat' if asked to reprise her role. 'For myself as a fan, I am so excited for Jurassic World Rebirth. I'm going to be there in the theater opening day, and they have an amazing cast,' Howard told ScreenRant. 'I mean, Mahershala Ali, Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey. It's going to be absolutely fantastic. I'm excited. And then maybe in 20 years or something like that, if they ever asked, of course, I would be back in a heartbeat.' Jurassic World Rebirth review: 3/5 stars- Johansson and Ali elevate a familiar franchise
Jurassic World Rebirth (PG13) 133 minutes, now showing ★★★☆☆ The story: Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion (2022), dinosaurs are extinct everywhere except for a narrow band around the tropics, because the zone most closely resembles the prehistoric Earth in which they once flourished. Mercenary Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson) leads a team that includes fellow ex-soldier Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali) and palaeontologist Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey). They have been hired to raid an island to collect biological samples from three of the largest dinosaurs. Their mission is interrupted by a distress call from a family, whose sailboat has strayed too close to the danger zone. If the synopsis sounds familiar, that is because it was meant to be – the seventh movie in the franchise is a deliberate return to roots. And this is a welcome return, not because Jurassic World Rebirth itself is good – as nostalgia trips go, it is merely okay. But it was time for the series to shed its bloat. In the fourth to sixth films (Jurassic World, 2015; Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, 2018; Jurassic World Dominion), dinosaurs were normalised as theme-park attractions before becoming widespread all over the world. The creatures were sometimes the danger, but other times, an evil corporation was the baddie. The stories became a sprawling, loosely-connected set of adventures fronted by an action hero, Chris Pratt's velociraptor trainer Owen Grady, a character written to be generically likeable and therefore instantly forgettable. Rebirth reins it all in. The reptilians are now confined to one place because of 'science'. This set-up allows director Gareth Edwards to set up a heist movie - get in, get the goods, get out alive - with a focus on a single group. This he does extremely well, as he showed in previous character-driven action pieces that include the rebooted Godzilla (2014) and space fantasy Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016). This means that main characters wear plot armour that protects them from death or serious injury – this reduces the emotional stakes considerably. Supporting characters with an instantly recognisable feature – an accent, or exaggerated machismo or a distinct headband - are marked for a gruesome death, a fact that becomes as clear as a face tattoo the moment they appear. The monster attack scenes are tension-filled, but weakened considerably by questionable computer graphics and character choices that make no sense, with exhibit No. 1 being the fact that someone would take a tiny sailboat anywhere within a thousand kilometres of a dinosaur island. As the covert operative who is the perfect yin-yang combination of toughness and empathy, Zora is made believable only by Johansson's abilities as an actress. Double Oscar winner Ali is also outstanding as her equally capable teammate; only an actor of his calibre can believably deliver dialogue about grief and heartbreak in one scene, then fight plane-sized raptors in the next. If Rebirth does well at the box office – and there is no reason to think that it would not – viewers are set for at least two more films featuring Johansson and Ali, with Edwards directing. It would be hard to think of three people more capable of carrying the franchise. Hot take: A competently crafted but predictably safe return to form that succeeds mainly through stellar performances, rather than genuine storytelling innovation.

Jurassic World Rebirth DLC gives you a reason to revisit Funko Fusion
Last year's not-Lego video game has launched new dinosaur themed DLC to promote the next Jurassic Park movie. When we were putting together our list of the best dinosaur video games, we did forget to acknowledge last year's Funko Fusion. While by no means a dinosaur game, Jurassic Park (or more specifically Jurassic World) is among thefranchises represented, with one of the playable characters even being a Dilophosaurus, Now, Funko Fusion has received two new DLC packs to tie in with the newest Jurassic Park movie – Jurassic World Rebirth – which arrives in cinemas on July 2. The packs add four new characters in total; starting with covert operative Zora Bennett and palaeontologist Dr Henry Loomis, who will be played by Scarlett Johannson and Justin Bailey, respectively, in the movie. More excitingly, the other two characters are actual dinosaurs: a shrunk down Spinosaurus (which makes its return in Rebirth, after its last appearance in Jurassic Park 3) and a velociraptor – an iconic staple of the Jurassic Park movies. If you want both dinosaurs, they don't come together so you will need to buy both DLC packs. They can be purchased separately for £4.49 each, a although we found a bundle on Steam and the Xbox store that includes both packs and saves you a bit of money. No doubt hoping that the DLC will attract new players, developer and publisher 10:10 Games is also bundling both packs with digital copies of Funko Fusion. The game itself is about £30 now, with the Jurassic World Rebirth bundle only raising the price to £34. If you're unfamiliar with Funko Fusion, it's ultimately the Funko Pop! equivalent of the Lego games by Traveller's Tales; it's even by some of the same developers, who left to form their own studio. More Trending Not only are there characters and levels from movies like Back To The Future and Jaws, but other gaming franchises as well, such as Mega Man and Five Nights At Freddy's. You can even play as KFC's Colonel Sanders. There's a mix of third person action, shooting, and puzzle solving, although strangely no splitscreen co-op on the same console. Online co-op has been added via an update though, so at least you can enjoy it with a friend now. Scarlett Johansson showed off her chic sense of style in a beige two-piece as she joined Jonathan Bailey and the rest of her Jurassic World Rebirth co-stars on The Julia Cunningham Show. The actress, 40, who stars as Zora Bennett in the upcoming science fiction movie, wore a buttoned up shirt and matching floor-length skirt. She finished her ensemble with with a pair of nude heels and accessorised with some silver jewellery. During the episode, which is set to air on Friday at 3pm, Jonathon cut a casual display as he wore a white jumper and blue jeans, teamed with a pair of beige Prada raffia mules, worth £770. They appeared alongside cast members David Iacono, Mahershala Ali, Luna Blaise, Manuel García-Rulfo and Rupert Friend on the SiriusXM show days before the movie's premiere on July 2. The second trailer for the upcoming flick begins with Johansson as researcher Zora Bennett as she warns the others as they head to the tropical island, the site of previous films. 'The theme park owners did experimental work,' she says. 'Leaving only the worst ones here.' She stars as skilled covert operations expert, who leads the team on a mission. For the top-secret mission, they must safely obtain and bring back the genetic material of the most dangerous and largest dinosaurs the world has ever seen, made even more ferocious after the previous Jurassic Park scientists experimented on them. The group are seen traveling by boat and arriving at the island, only to be first greeted by a bone-chilling roar in the distance, as they prepared to face off 'the worst of the worst dinosaurs left here,' as seen in text that flashes quickly across the screen. 'We've put ourselves in a place where we don't belong,' Bailey as Dr. Henry Loomis even says to her at one point. 'Survival is a long shot.' She replies: 'That's kind of our specialty.' The movie is set half a decade after the 2022 Jurassic World Dominion movie, which starred Bryce Dallas Howard alongside Chris Pratt, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill among many more in the all-star cast. The synopsis of the movie reads: 'Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet's ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. 'Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived,' the summary continues. 'The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.' The star-studded cast also includes Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain, Ed Skrein and many more. The newest and latest franchise film was directed by Gareth Edwards.
