East S'bhum deletes ‘silent' ration card holders' names

Jamshedpur: The East Singhbhum district administration deleted the names of 50,000 silent ration card holders for not using them for six months in a row. The district rationing officer, Zulfikar Ansari, said that 1,64,237 silent ration card holders did not use their cards in the past six months. Out of these, 50,000 names were removed, while the names of 1,13,338 card holders are being verified to ascertain the cause of not using the card. The names of 576 cardholders were found eligible, and they are entitled to avail food grains and other benefits at the PDS shop. Incidentally, the data suggest that a majority of the silent ration card holders are in the urban circle, namely Jamshedpur block (68,565) and Jugsalai-cum-Golmuri block (46,703), respectively. Likewise, in the duplicate card holders bracket, the names of 426 card holders were removed, while 20,886 names are presently being checked. A total of 4,009 card holders were found to be eligible for availing of the benefits. Further, the names of 20,006 card holders were removed on account of suspicious Aadhar numbers, while verification of the 2,746 card holders is being done. In addition to this, the names of 2,274 single-member card holders, who are under 18 years of age or over 100 years, were removed, while verification of the 13,332 names is being done. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo A total of 793 names of card holders were found valid. Notably, on the directive of DC Karn Satyarthi, an extensive verification drive of the names of ration card beneficiaries was launched three months ago. "The purpose of the drive is to identify the non-eligible beneficiaries and strike off their names so that the benefits of the PDS scheme reach the genuine and deserving beneficiary," Ansari said on Wednesday, adding that the DC has directed block level officials to finish the verification drive at the earliest.
