Skeletal remains found in bushes believed to be that of missing Bera man, say cops
BERA: A man clearing the bushes behind his house in Felda Bukit Mendi near here was shocked to discover a human skeleton, including a skull, in an incident on Friday (May 2), Sinar Harian reports.
Bera OCPD Supt Zulkiflee Nazir told the Malay language daily that a report on the grisly discovery was received at around 11:50pm on Friday from a 51-year-old man.
He said the man had been clearing the bushes at approximately 4:30pm when he found the skeleton, skull, clothing, and an old phone suspected to belong to the victim.
"Initially, the man thought the object was a mannequin before his friend advised him to file a police report for further investigation.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that the human skeleton was located about 100m from the house," he said Saturday (May 3).
The skeleton was found scattered, with clothing such as a shirt, trousers, and a jacket found nearby.
He added that the location of the discovery is in a swampy area of Felda reserve land filled with thick bushes.
The remains have been sent to the Forensic Unit of Bera Hospital for identity confirmation through DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) testing.
Supt Zulkiflee noted that the police had previously received a report of a missing 48-year-old man from Felda Bukit Mendi in July last year.
"So far, close family members have confirmed that the remains are likely those of the missing man based on the clothing found. However, further investigations are still ongoing," he told Sinar Harian.
