Coconut milk trader, 64, charged with raping 18-year-old sister-in-law in Bachok
KOTA BHARU, July 27 — A 64-year-old man, who has two wives, was charged in the Sessions Court here today with raping his 18-year-old sister-in-law in January. According to the New Sunday Times (NST), the accused, whose name was not revealed, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read out before Judge Zulkifli Abdullah. The charge stated that the man was accused of raping his sister-in-law in a room at a residence in Kubang Golok, Bachok, at around 3pm on January 18. He faced charges under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 30 years in prison and whipping upon conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Hajar Mazlan appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer Ahmad Nurie Ab Rahman. NST reported that Siti Hajar opposed bail, citing the close family ties between the victim and the accused, as both families live together. However, Ahmad Nurie requested bail on the grounds that his client, a coconut milk trader, is the sole breadwinner and has two wives to support. The court eventually granted bail of RM12,000 with one surety, and set August 25 as the next hearing date.

Elderly man with two wives charged with raping sister-in-law
KOTA BARU: A 64-year-old man with two wives was charged in the Sessions Court here today with raping his sister-in-law at a village in Kubang Golok, Bachok, in January this year. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him before Judge Zulkifli Abdullah. According to the charge sheet, the accused is alleged to have raped his 18-year-old sister-in-law in a room at a house at 3pm on Jan 18. He was charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of up to 30 years and whipping upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Siti Hajar Mazlan prosecuted while the accused was represented by lawyer Ahmad Nurie Ab Rahman. Earlier, Siti Hajar did not offer bail, stating that the victim is the accused's sister-in-law and that both the accused's and the victim's families live together. Ahmad Nurie, however, requested bail on the grounds that his client, who works as a coconut milk trader, has to support his family and has two wives. The court later granted bail of RM12,000 with one surety and set Aug 25 for mention.

Man claims trial to raping 11-year-old sibling
KOTA BARU: A 20-year-old food assistant was charged at the Sessions Court here, today, with three counts of raping his 11-year-old sister in a village in Bachok between 2023 and this year. He pleaded not guilty to all three charges before judge Zulkifli Abdullah. He is accused of committing the offences in a room of a house in the village. The offences took place in April 2023, last December, and April this year between evening and midnight. The accused was charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of not less than eight years and not more than 30 years, and no fewer than 10 strokes of the cane upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad prosecuted, while the accused was represented by lawyer Mohd Firdaus Zainal Abidin. Earlier, the prosecution did not offer bail, citing that the accused lived near the victim and had allegedly threatened her. However, the defence requested a lighter bail amount, noting that the accused was a young offender. The court allowed bail at RM10,000 with one surety. It also fixed Aug 6 for case mention and document submission.

Food stall assistant claims trial to raping his sister
KOTA BARU: A food stall assistant was charged at the Sessions Court here today with three counts of raping his sister since she was 11, in Bachok between 2023 and this year. The accused, 20, pleaded not guilty to all three charges before judge Zulkifli Abdullah. The offences allegedly occurred at a house in Kampung Cherang Hangus, Bachok in April 2023, December 2024, and April this year, between evening and midnight. The accused was charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of not less than eight years and not more than 30 years, and no fewer than 10 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. The section applies to offenders who rape victims whom they are prohibited from marrying under the law, religion, custom, or usage. Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad prosecuted, while the accused was represented by lawyer Mohd Firdaus Zainal Abidin. Earlier, the prosecution did not offer bail, citing that the accused lived near the victim and had allegedly threatened her. However, the defence requested a lighter sentence, noting that the accused was a young offender. After hearing submissions from both sides, the court allowed bail at RM10,000 with two sureties. Former bus ticketing clerk claims trial to CBT charges involving RM114,630
KOTA BHARU: A former bus ticketing clerk pleaded not guilty today to 10 charges of criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM114,630.80 in unremitted ticket sales from 2015. Bibi Kasiran Mohamad, 50, was accused of failing to hand over proceeds ranging from RM7,000 to over RM18,000 per transaction while working at Lembah Sireh Bus Terminal. The charges were read before Sessions Court Judge Zulkifli Abdullah. The case falls under Section 408 of the Penal Code, which carries a potential prison sentence of one to 14 years, caning, and a fine if convicted. Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad did not offer bail but suggested RM5,000 per charge if considered. Defence counsel Muhammad Khairul Azwan Azhan requested lower bail, citing his client's financial struggles, health issues, and family responsibilities. 'My client earns RM45 daily at a kuih stall and cares for elderly parents. This is her first offence,' he said. The court set bail at RM18,000 with one surety and scheduled the next mention for August 28.
