Doug Mastriano teases run for Pennsylvania Governor in new social media posts
(WHTM) – Pennsylvania State Senator Doug Mastriano is teasing a second run for Governor on Friday, polling his social media followers on which 'Doug Mastriano For Governor' campaign logo to use. Mastriano, the Republican Party's 2022 gubernatorial nominee, posted four potential campaign graphics on his X and Facebook accounts after teasing a run for governor over the past few months. Links to Mastriano's campaign websites featured on his social media pages ( and appear to have been rerouted to websites promoting questionable offshore gambling. Internet archive history shows the domains were rerouted in the spring. abc27 has reached out to Mastriano for comment on his social media posts and the website domains. No Republican candidates have formally entered the 2026 primary to date. Congressman Dan Meuser announced he would not seek the nomination, and Treasurer Stacy Garrity says an announcement on her decision is coming 'very soon.' Greg Rothman, chairman of the Pennsylvania Republican Party, told abc27 earlier this month that the party will roll out 'a really perfect nominee' in a few weeks, a sign the party may want to avoid another crowded primary. Subscribe Now Mastriano has previously expressed interest in running again, telling abc27 in February that he believes he could win another Republican primary. The retired Army colonel and State Senator clinched the Republican Party's gubernatorial nomination in 2022 with nearly 44% support and an endorsement from Donald Trump in a nine-person primary . He went on to lose the general election to Josh Shapiro by nearly 800,000 votes, with Shapiro receiving more than 56% of the vote. Mastriano drew criticism throughout his gubernatorial campaign for efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election and his presence in Washington, D.C., on January 6, though Mastriano says he did not participate in the Capitol riot. Questions were also raised after a photo of Mastriano wearing a Confederate uniform in 2014 at an Army War College faculty event surfaced. The recipient of a Ph.D. in History and the author of multiple books, Mastriano also faced academic pushback on the legitimacy of his research. Mastriano proposes banning non-military-related gatherings at Harrisburg's Soldiers' Grove Mastriano declined to run for the U.S. Senate in 2024, leading to Republican Dave McCormick's nomination and general election victory over incumbent Democrat Bob Casey. In the 2025 State Senate Session, Mastriano has introduced or co-sponsored legislation, including the 'Save Women's Sports Act,' a vaccine exemption for members of the Pennsylvania National Guard, and the establishment of a 'Green Alert System' to notify the public of a missing veteran. Stacy Garrity's Pennsylvania gubernatorial announcement coming 'very soon' after Meuser declines to run
(WHTM) – Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity expects to make an announcement 'very soon' on whether she will run for governor in 2026. In a statement to abc27 on Wednesday, Garrity confirmed a decision 'about the future of my career in service' will be announced in the near future. The twice-elected State Treasurer told abc27 in April that she would make a decision 'this summer.' Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Garrity's latest statement on a potential gubernatorial run comes hours after Congressman Dan Meuser announced he would not run for governor in 2026 despite being endorsed by President Donald Trump. Meuser told abc27 in January that he was considering a run and targeted Governor Josh Shapiro multiple times during interviews, most recently last week over potential cuts to Medicaid and SNAP benefits. Garrity, who lives in Meuser's congressional district, recognized Meuser's announcement on Wednesday, saying, 'I commend him for his principled leadership in Congress and devotion to the people of the 9th District.' Finding a strong candidate for governor in Pennsylvania may help GOP protect its US House majority Last November, Garrity broke Shapiro's record for the most votes received by a state official in Pennsylvania in her re-election campaign. State Senator Doug Mastriano, the 2022 Republican gubernatorial nominee who received Trump's endorsement, has said he is considering another run for Governor and believes he'd win another primary. No candidates have formally filed to run in the 2026 gubernatorial election against Shapiro, who is a potential presidential candidate in 2028. A Morning Consult poll released in April found Shapiro has a 59% approval rating in the state. The Democratic Governors Association reacted Wednesday to Meuser's decision, saying, 'Even longtime Congressman Dan Meuser — Donald Trump's hand-picked candidate for the Republican nomination for governor — knows he can't go up against Governor Josh Shapiro and win.' Shapiro declined to comment on Meuser's decision when asked on Wednesday at a bill signing that repealed the state's Sunday hunting ban. This is a developing story. Harrisburg restaurant relocating due to public safety concerns
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — A long-time Italian restaurant in Midtown Harrisburg has closed its doors after operating for 12 years. A local Italian eatery named Pastorante, which is situated at 1012 North 3rd Street in Harrisburg, is owned and operated by Sri Kumarasingam, who first debuted his restaurant back in June of 2013. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Recently, Pastorante closed its doors, and its last day of operation in Harrisburg was held on Saturday, June 21. According to Kumarasingam, he decided to close the Midtown restaurant due to a variety of reasons that had been building up over the years. Kumarasingam says he has continued to have problems with bar fights breaking out in the area, the frequent smell of marijuana from people outside, and West Shore customers feeling uncomfortable visiting the area. Kumarasingam adds that he and other local business owners had a meeting with the mayor and the police chief about two years ago to address their concerns, but he says that nothing changed as a result. Although Pastorante's presence in Midtown has come to an end, they will soon be reopening inside a new location at 175 South Front Street in Steelton. According to Kumarasingam, the new restaurant location is approximately 2,200 square feet, and is slightly bigger than his Harrisburg restaurant. The new Pastorante in Steelton will boast seating for 26 guests at a time, in addition to outdoor seating during the warmer months. Once open, the new Pastorante's hours of operation will be: Mondays – Thursdays // 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays // 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays // 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Currently, Kumarasingam is hoping for a mid-July opening pending a final inspection. abc27 news will keep you updated as more information becomes available. York County winery could shut down after losing court appeal
YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — After years of a taxing legal battle between a local Midstate winery and neighboring property owners, it appears that the winery may be closing its doors in the near future following an appeal loss. The legal battle between Moon Dancer Vineyards & Winery and its neighboring property owners first began in October 2018. The dispute was in regard to the use of the winery's farm property situated on Klines Run Road in York County. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Specifically, the neighboring property owners have argued that the winery's property is agriculturally zoned, not commercially. In turn, the property owners sought to force the winery to cease operations. abc27 news reported back in July 2024 when the winery was ordered to cease operations following a court order. However, the following month, the winery received court approval to reopen for the time being while the legal battle continued. Now, nearly a year later, Moon Dancer Vineyards & Winery lost its appeal to the Superior Court of Pennsylvania. According to court documents, the Superior Court of Pennsylvania sided with the neighboring property owners, who are now asking for the original ruling from July 2024 to be enforced. In response to losing this appeal, a spokesperson for Moon Dancer Vineyards & Winery said the following: 'We are incredibly disappointed, but we are not giving up. We are doing everything we possibly can to save Moon Dancer. This community has stood by us for more than 20 years, and we're so grateful for their love and support. We're going to keep fighting and will continue to pursue all our legal options to keep our doors open.' According to Moon Dancer's website, they are currently promoting a festival slated for July 5 – an event which they call their annual 'Reds, Whites & Blue Festival'. News of this most recent court action was first reported by BizNewsPA. abc27 news will keep you updated as more information becomes available. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
