EchoStar Urged by US to Sell Spectrum to Settle Squatting Claim
EchoStar Corp., the broadband company that's missed debt payments, is being pushed by federal regulators to sell some of its airwaves to address concerns it has failed to put valuable slices of wireless spectrum to use. Brendan Carr, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, wants the company to seek a sale of licenses in the so-called AWS-4 band, according to people with knowledge of the matter. Carr has presented his 'best and final' offer to co-founder and Chairman Charlie Ergen, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing the private communications between the parties.
