Ahmed al-Degwy's family has doubts about his suicide: Amr Adib
Egyptian TV host Amr Adib, the presenter of 'al-Hekaya' (The Story) show, revealed details of a phone call he had with Amr al-Degwy, the brother of the late Ahmed al-Degwy, who reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. During his program on Monday evening, he said he had a very difficult call with Amr al-Degwy, whose wife confirmed that he hadn't slept for days. According to Adib, Amr al-Degwy had told him that his late brother Ahmed was the family's pride and joy. 'I asked him, 'Do you have any doubts about his death?' He said, 'Of course,' without thinking much about it. He told me that Ahmed had just returned from his trip and was in a good mood and believed the crisis could be resolved. But when he arrived in Egypt, he was agitated and said that someone was watching him.' Adib continued, quoting Amr: 'Ahmed asked me to go to him, and messages were sent to try to reach a solution with the other party, but the answer was: 'No solution, no reconciliation. This is our mother's revenge, and we must take it back,' referring to the late Mona al-Degwy. Adib added 'Amr said that during the washing and autopsy, he learned that Ahmed had committed suicide with his left hand, even though he is right-handed, not left-handed. He said they were firmly convinced that he had been murdered.' Adib noted that the production team of the show contacted the other party's lawyer, but the response was that no statements would be made until the mourning period ends, and that a response is expected later. The funeral prayer for Ahmed al-Degwy, the grandson of Nawal el-Degwy, Chair of the Board of Trustees of October University for Modern Sciences and Arts, who died on Sunday from a gunshot wound inside his apartment in 6th of October City, was held at the MSA University's Mosque following the noon prayer. The body was then buried in the family cemetery. Edited translation from Al-Masry Al-Youm

has Egypt entered a danger zone?
The professor of Geology at Benha University Zakaria Hamimi, discussed concerns of Egypt entering an earthquake zone following recent earthquakes off the Greek coast, felt by citizens in Egypt on May 14 and May 22. In a phone interview with TV host Amr Adib on the 'al-Hekaya' (The Story) show on MBC Masr on Saturday, Hamimi said that the source of the recent earthquakes is the Hellenic Arc region of Crete. This region is an active seismic belt, and earthquakes occur at great depth, he said, which mitigates their effects. The professor noted that 'The devastating 1992 (Cairo) earthquake had its epicenter in Dahshur, which is why its impact was so significant.' Hamimi emphasized that Egypt is completely isolated from seismic belts, assuring, 'Egypt is immune to dangerous earthquakes.' He explained that sometimes the delta's terrain amplifies the magnitude of an earthquake, which is why citizens feel it, but the earthquake's magnitude is less than that of its epicenter. Heatwave strikes Egypt this week amid Sham el-Nessim celebrations
The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) expects the country to experience a heat wave this week, coinciding with Sham el-Nessim celebrations across Egypt. During a phone-in with TV host Amr Adib on the 'al-Hekaya' (The Story) show, Ghanem added that the maximum temperature in Greater Cairo will reach 31C on Sunday, and 33C on Monday (Sham el-Nessim). Tuesday will be the peak of the heatwave, Ghanem explained, with the maximum temperature in Greater Cairo exceeding 37C, growing up to 40C in the southern parts of the country. Will the US dollar rise after the CBE cut interest rates?
Economic expert Mohamed Fouad revealed the impact of the Central Bank of Egypt's (CBE) recent decision to reduce interest rates on the exchange rate of the US dollar against the Egyptian pound. During a phone interview with TV host Amr Adib on the 'al-Hekaya' (The Story) show on Friday, Fouad said that despite the interest rate cut, Egypt remains one of the countries with the highest interest rates. He added that it is also the most stable compared to other countries such as Argentina and Turkey, which are currently experiencing some severe turmoil. The dollar's amount decreases when investors say that Egypt doesn't pay much interest, he explained, and they go and take their dollars and leave, but he assured that this is not happening now. Fouad explained that the global market places interest rates in Egypt at lower than the current rate. 'The current interest rate is comfortable. It's not the rate that puts pressure on the currency, causing people to withdraw their dollars, and this withdrawal is what raises the dollar's value,' he continued. Reducing interest rates will not lead to an increase in the price of the US dollar against the Egyptian pound in the Egyptian market, the expert added.
