B.Laban CEO debunks rumors on food poisoning and money laundering
The CEO and Chairman of the B.Laban Group Moamen Adel has responded to rumors spread on social media regarding the closure of the group's chain of stores.
In a phone interview with TV host Amr Adib on the 'al-Hekaya' (The Story) show on MBC Masr on Friday, Adel assured that this was entirely untrue.
He added, 'I haven't had any problems with anyone during this period, and no one has asked to partner with me and I've refused. Egypt has always supported us and stood by us. I reject these rumors.'
Adel indicated that he still doesn't know the reason for the group's branch closures, but assured there are no food poisoning reports against the company.
He also denied rumors surrounding the group's sources of funding and accusations of 'money laundering.'
'We are a brand that people queue for. This is God's generosity and provision. Our branches are crowded and under pressure, and we make a profit. We don't just hit numbers. We are hardworking people, and we grow,' he said.

Israa Farhan Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, chaired one of the interview panels on Thursday for applicants to the 'Women Lead for Executives' program, organized by the National Training Academy (NTA) in partnership with the Ministry. This has been reflected in the launch of the National Strategy for the Empowerment of Egyptian Women 2030 and the measures that have enabled women to hold leadership positions that were previously inaccessible. She added that empowering women economically, socially, and politically does not only benefit women themselves, but yields positive results across all aspects of life in Egypt. She further explained that women's empowerment is a key component of the state's efforts to invest in human capital and develop the skills of young men and women, enhancing their ability to assume leadership positions. The state is working to integrate gender equality and women's economic and social empowerment across all development plans. As such, women's empowerment has become a core component of the economic and social development plan, as well as various strategies and programs being implemented in cooperation with bilateral and multilateral development partners. Dr. Al-Mashat added: 'Empowering women economically, socially, and politically is a significant responsibility. Women are required to constantly prove their competence and capability to hold such positions. In addition, they bear a major responsibility in encouraging more women and girls to enter various fields of work, thereby increasing women's participation in the labor market.' Dr. Rasha Ragheb, Executive Director of the NTA, welcomed Dr. Rania Al-Mashat upon her arrival at the Academy headquarters in Giza Governorate. Dr. Al-Mashat and Dr. Ragheb toured the training sessions taking place under the Support for Improvement in Governance and Management (SIGMA) program. This program is part of the effective partnership between the NTA, the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, the European Union, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Al-Sisi reviews progress on national digital skills initiative ahead of 2025 launch
Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi convened a meeting on Wednesday with Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, and Lieutenant General Ashraf Salem Zaher, Director of the Egyptian Military Academy, to review the latest developments in the implementation of the 'Digilians' initiative, Egypt's flagship national programme to build digital capabilities among youth. Presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shenawy stated that the president was briefed on final preparations for the programme's official launch in September 2025. These include the completion of the necessary technological and engineering infrastructure, as well as the development of an online registration platform. Minister Talaat outlined the initiative's inclusive framework, which will be open to young Egyptians—both men and women—from all academic disciplines, professional backgrounds, and governorates. Admission will follow a transparent, merit-based selection process. The Digilians programme will offer fully funded educational tracks, including intensive diplomas, specialized diplomas, professional master's degrees, and academic master's degrees. Participants will also benefit from free accommodation and training throughout the programme. The curriculum is designed to integrate technical training with personal development, including language and leadership skills, and freelancing competencies. A key component of the initiative is fostering connections between participants and major tech companies operating in Egypt for hands-on training and mentorship. Additionally, the programme encourages participants to develop and pitch their own tech-based business projects, with support provided to help them enter the global freelancing market and contribute to Egypt's ongoing digital transformation efforts. President Al-Sisi stressed the importance of meeting the project timeline and called for expanding the programme to reach a larger number of participants. He emphasized the strategic significance of creating a quantitative and qualitative leap in Egypt's digital workforce to align with the country's long-term development goals. He also directed that the initiative be implemented in close collaboration with specialized science and technology institutions—both within Egypt and internationally—to ensure access to cutting-edge knowledge and global best practices. President Al-Sisi concluded the meeting by reaffirming Egypt's commitment to its national digital transformation agenda and the continued development of its ICT infrastructure as a foundation for economic growth and innovation.

Egypt, Sweden discuss advancing local electric bus manufacturing, sustainable transport
Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel Al-Wazir, met with Johan Forssell, Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in the transport and industrial sectors. Swedish Ambassador to Cairo, Håkan Emsgård, also attended the meeting. Al-Wazir underscored the longstanding and robust relations between Egypt and Sweden, expressing a strong desire to deepen collaboration, particularly in enhancing road safety—an effort aligned with Egypt's extensive national infrastructure projects in roads and bridges. Minister Forssell, leading a delegation of Swedish institutions and companies, expressed Sweden's keen interest in investing in Egypt's industrial development. He affirmed Sweden's readiness to support Egypt through technology transfer, expertise sharing, and cooperation across various transport sectors, recognizing Egypt's strategic position as a gateway to Africa. A key focus of the meeting was Egypt's initiative to localize the manufacturing of electric buses as part of its broader environmental and industrial strategy. Al-Wazir noted that Swedish company Volvo already manufactures electric buses in Egypt for export to the UK and several European markets. The ministers also discussed collaboration on Egypt's Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. Plans include the joint production of 100 electric buses, the development of electric charging infrastructure for upcoming BRT phases, and the implementation of advanced control and monitoring systems. Al-Wazir welcomed Swedish support in rolling out BRT services in Alexandria and emphasized opportunities for collaboration with other Swedish companies in the fields of renewable energy and pharmaceutical innovation, such as AstraZeneca. During the meeting, Al-Wazir and Forssell, along with Ambassador Emsgård, witnessed the signing of a Letter of Intent between Egypt's Land Transport Regulatory Authority and the International Swedish Industry Council. The agreement outlines cooperation in public transport planning, capacity building, technical evaluations, and knowledge transfer—particularly for BRT projects. Both sides concluded the meeting by agreeing to establish a series of expert-level follow-up sessions to monitor the implementation of joint projects and explore additional opportunities for Swedish companies in Egypt's growing market.
