27-year-old man held in UP for theft of remote radio unit cards

New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested a 27-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar for his involvement in multiple Remote Radio Unit (RRU) card thefts across Delhi and Punjab, officials said on Monday. RRU cards are crucial in wireless communication systems, and their theft disrupts cellular services. The RRU transmits and receives signals, linking devices to a network. Police said they got a tip-off about the identity and whereabouts of the suspect, wanted in multiple cases. A team was formed that tracked him down. "The team found that the accused, identified as Shavej Ahmad alias Prince alias Prince Malik (27), was operating in Punjab and raided multiple locations in Punjab and UP and tracked the accused to Muzaffarnagar. He was arrested on Delhi-Hardwar highway," DCP (crime) Vikram Singh said. "During interrogation, it was revealed that Ahmad was involved in the delivery and supply of the stolen RRU cards to Delhi and Meerut. He allegedly used fake identity and frequently changed addresses and mobile numbers to evade arrest," DCP Singh added. He told police that after working in a shoe shop and as a scrap dealer, he decided to make easy profit through the theft of mobile communication machinery. The police found a stolen RRU, cash worth Rs 4 lakh, and a subcompact crossover SUV that was used in the thefts in Punjab. The accused was involved in cases across Delhi, Haryana and Punjab. Police are investigating further to catch others involved in the racket. TNN
