Six-term Congressman Buddy Carter announces bid for Senate seat opposing Ossoff

U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter, a six-term Congressman representing Coastal Georgia, has become the first mainstream Republican to announce a bid for U.S. Senate in the wake of Gov. Brian Kemp's announcement that he would not be running for the seat. Carter, 67, campaigned on a moderate Republican platform that prioritizes limiting government, promoting economic opportunities, and maintaining a strong military force in 2024. However, he has aligned himself closely with President Donald Trump in recent months, surging into the national spotlight earlier this year after introducing a bill that would change Greenland's name to 'Red, White, and Blueland.' In an ad announcing his campaign for Senate, he attacked Ossoff for opposing Trump's policies on immigration and trans students in sports, ending the ad by labeling himself a 'MAGA warrior.' 'Jon Ossoff is on the wrong side,' the ad said. 'Trump has a warrior in Buddy Carter.' More: Gov. Brian Kemp announces he will not be running for U.S. Senate in 2026 A veteran lawmaker, Carter served as the mayor of Pooler and a member of the Georgia General Assembly before running for U.S. Congress. In the House, Carter sits on the newly-created Delivering Outstanding Government Efficiency (DOGE) Caucus, as well as the Committee on Energy and Commerce and the House Budget Committee. As of March 31, he had over $3 million on hand in his congressional campaign committee compared to Ossoff's $11 million. Carter also recently accepted a $6,600 campaign donation from businessman and White House advisor Elon Musk. His decision to run for Senate also has downstream effects for his Congressional seat. Kandiss Taylor, a Baxley Republican who also previously ran for Governor under the slogan 'Jesus, guns, and babies,' announced her campaign for the District 1 seat back in February. ‘Pod Save America' hits GOP over floated Greenland name change

Jon Favreau and Dan Pfeiffer, former Obama advisors and the hosts of 'Pod Save America,' slammed Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.)'s idea to rename Greenland 'Red, White, and Blueland,' saying the 'stupidest f—— people' are currently in charge of the government. Carter introduced a bill on Tuesday that would allow President Trump to take control of Greenland, a semiautonomous country that is currently controlled by Denmark. 'I learned about this directly from you this morning at our production meeting, and I laughed so hard,' Pfeiffer said in his comments on the podcast, as highlighted by Mediaite. The legislation, titled the ' Red, White, and Blueland Act of 2025,' instructs Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to oversee the implementation of the name change and to ensure official documentation and maps refer to Greenland by its updated name. Trump has previously expressed interest in the U.S. acquiring Greenland. The legislation would also enable Trump to enter into negotiations with Denmark 'to purchase or otherwise acquire Greenland.' 'America is back and will soon be bigger than ever with the addition of Red, White, and Blueland,' Carter said in a statement issued after he introduced the bill. 'President Trump has correctly identified the purchase of what is now Greenland as a national security priority, and we will proudly welcome its people to join the freest nation to ever exist when our Negotiator-in-Chief inks this monumental deal,' he added. Criticizing the bill, Pfeiffer said it was just a ploy to rile up supporters of the MAGA movement, similar to the renaming of French fries to 'freedom fries.' 'It's obviously freedom fries type stuff,' he said. 'And if you ever just want to just have an interesting experience, find a much younger person and try to explain to them the time in American history 20 years ago when we renamed all of our French fries freedom fries because France would not follow us into a really stupid and losing war.'

MoonPie Is Renaming The State Of Florida, And Their Suggestion Is Going Super Viral

Renaming things seems to be all the rage right now. Google and Apple have changed the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America." The governor of Illinois announced he would be renaming Lake Michigan to Lake Illinois. And some random lawmaker just submitted a bill to rename Greenland to "Red, White, and Blueland." And now, MoonPie, the literal cookie, announced they are renaming Florida. The chocolate cookie said, "The land mass previously known as Florida will now be referred to as MoonPieTown." Those changes are "effective immediately." Hello, MoonPieTown! The renaming has widespread internet support, like 32,000 reposts and millions of views. "I will never call Florida anything else ever again," this person said. "MoonPieTown sounds better than Florida anyways," another person said. And this person has already updated their résumé to say "Proud graduate of the University of MoonPieTown." The enthusiasm is palpable. "Guess I need a MoonPieTown license plate now," this person said. "thank you moonpie i cannot wait to vacation in your rolling hills and gorgeous vistas," another person chimed in. And this person declared, "IM PROUD TO BE A MOONPIETOWNIAN." As this person said, "I triple dog dare you Google Maps. Do it."

GOP lawmaker proposes renaming Greenland ‘Red, White, and Blueland'

Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) introduced a new bill this week aiming to rename Greenland to 'Red, White, and Blueland,' as President Trump seeks to acquire the island territory. The legislation, called the 'Red, White, and Blueland Act of 2025,' directs Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to oversee the implementation of the name change and to ensure official documentation and maps refer to Greenland by its updated name. The legislation also authorizes Trump to enter into negotiations with Denmark 'to purchase or otherwise acquire Greenland.' 'America is back and will soon be bigger than ever with the addition of Red, White, and Blueland,' Carter said in a statement Tuesday, after introducing the legislation. 'President Trump has correctly identified the purchase of what is now Greenland as a national security priority, and we will proudly welcome its people to join the freest nation to ever exist when our Negotiator-in-Chief inks this monumental deal,' he added. Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in purchasing Greenland, a semi-autonomous country that is currently under Denmark's control. He has argued that the U.S. taking over the Arctic island is necessary for national security purposes. During his inauguration speech, Trump referred to the U.S. as a growing nation expanding its territory. He has also called for the U.S. to retake the Panama Canal and mused about annexing Canada. Greenland and Denmark have emphatically resisted Trump's push to acquire the country. 'We don't want to be Danes,' Greenland Prime Minister Múte Egede previously said on Fox News. 'We don't even want to be Americans. We want to be Greenlanders.' Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has also insisted Greenland is not for sale and that it is up to Greenland to make its decision about its independence. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
